mikeyp Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 (edited) When trying to burn a movie iso onto a blank Imation DVD-R, Imageburn freezes every time on writing the lead in. However, if I use a blank Sony DVD+RW it works great every time on any movie ISO. (Don't have any DVD+R blanks on hand). Can anyone tell me if I need to select any options on Imageburn, or will it just not burn onto a DVD-R blank disk? Or perhaps Did I buy some crappy blank DVD's? Thanks, mikeyp Edited November 21, 2006 by mikeyp
lfcrule1972 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 My guess is crappy blank media - to be sure tho please can you copy and paste the full log from ImgBurn so we can take a look (it's in the bottom window and you will need to scroll down to capture it all)
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Yes, sounds like crappy media and/or old firmware on the drive. Also, this post is better posted in the Support forum, not Chat - I've moved it. Oh and the program is called ImgBurn, not Imageburn!
lfcrule1972 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Perhaps it's not your program he has the problem with then boss ?
mikeyp Posted November 22, 2006 Author Posted November 22, 2006 I'm sorry LIGHTNING UK and IFcrule1972. I didn't realize I was in the CHAT area. ImgBurn, not Imageburn, got it. lfcrule1972 Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Mmm several things: 1. That media is crap I am afraid, just about the worst that is commonly available. Try an buy either Verbatim discs with a media ID of MCC or Taiyo Yudens with (TYG02 or TYG03). Any decent online retailer should list the media ID or supply it if asked. Yours is Disc ID: CMC MAG. AM3 and that could be the root of your problems. 2. You say it tried to burn at less than 1x as you can see the supported write speeds above are (Speeds: 4x, 8x, 12x, 16x), therefore I would guess that you are having problems with DMA. Read the FAQ here - http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?s=&...dpost&p=967 and follow it to the letter. If you do this I think you should see an improvement in your burn speeds. 3. You may need a Firmware update, open ImgBurn and then right click on your drive description in the GUI, from the dropdown list select "Check for Firmware Update" and see if there is a newer firmware at www.rpc1.org. Don't forget to change those discs tho !!
mikeyp Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 Hello lfcrule1972 Thank you! Thank you! I followed your link and uninstalled the IDE/ATA Controller and rebooted XP, even though XP showed that DMA mode was enabled on the primary and secondary channels. Evidently XP was in fact confused thinking the drives were running DMA mode but it really wasn't. Got some new media and ImgBurn burned the heck out of a movie iso in just 5 minutes. Your help is much appreciated
