Problems with CD’s and DVD’s popping out of drive half way through burn proccess

New Burner Pioneer BDR-XS07UHHD. Good quality device. Every time I burn a cd or dvd during the process about half way through the cd or dvd will pop out if the device. A pop up opens saying “All attempts to automatically close the drive tray have failed! Note: This is to be expected on laptop style slimline drives. Please close it manually and then click ‘ok’ to continue.”

This is really bothersome. I start a burn and leave. I go on doing other things. When I go back thinking the burn will be done I find I have to pop the disc back into the drive and continue the burn for awhile longer. I called my burner company they said the burner should not do this. That it could be the software I was using. Does anyone else have this problem? If not I am going to take it back up with Pioneer.please let me know if it’s only me having this problem. Thanks.

Did you close the log window?

That explains what’s happening.

Next time you burn, keep an eye on it.

The cycling of the tray happens after the burning has completed and it’s about to verify the disc.

I took a look at the device listed.  It appears to be a slim model drive.  Slim models cannot automatically reload the disc on eject.  This is by the design of slim line drives.  Removing that ability saved on manufacturing costs.  Plus, this model appears to be a slot drive as opposed to a tray drive, which means it requires human action to insert a disc.  It cannot reload a disc even if you wanted it to.

The bottom line is with this model drive, you MUST reinsert the disc on eject if you have the option to do so checked.  You can try disabling it and see if it works better for you.  Under Tools --> Settings --> Device --> Eject Tray After... --> Uncheck the Write box.  This should prevent the disc from being ejected after the burn completes.  So, Verify should start right away after the burn finishes.

Thanks for the info and looking into my burner. Just to make sure you know. It does not eject after the burn but in the middle of the burn. I have to reinsert in then it continues the process for awhile. When it finishes it does not eject again.
The info you gave me on changing some of the setting, I want to try this. I am a little confused though. Are these settings in the ImgBurn app? Though since my cd does not eject after the burn it looks like I will either have to get another burner or just live with this little irritation or maybe try another software but again I really like ImgBurn too. So Inguess I just live with it. Thanks so much gor your help. You were a great help!!!!!!

Wait, if it ejects in the middle of a burn, you can't just reinsert it and get the burn to finish.  An eject in the middle of a burn will leave the disc in an unfinished state.

Are you sure it isn't just completing the burn and then ejecting it before the Verify stage?  You can tell because if you reinsert the disc when it ejects in the middle of a burn and Verify attempts to start, Verify will fail.

Hello. No. I am sure. It does not finish the burn. Read my first post. In the middle of each burn . For burning both cd’s and DVD’s the disc will eject and a pop up window appears with the message I posted in my first post. I have to push the disc back in then click the ok button. Then the burn continues. It goes on for a while. Then completes. Nothing fails. When it completes I do have a good burned disc. I am happy with it I just hate having to remember to come back and continue the burn process. I don’t know if it’s the ImgBurn Software or my Burner.

Hello. Thanks for the info on how my drive works with the mechanisms not being able to reload the disc. This is more than the Pioneer Support Agents knew. I think now this is just something to expect. I am getting  good burned discs. So I guess I just put up with the nuisance. Thanks for the help.

This is completely unexpected.  In my 25 years of burning optical discs, I've never seen that before, either in my experience or anyone else's.  As I said, it should be impossible, actually.  If a burn ejects mid write, it should be impossible to resume.

Try opening the Log and see if you can find anything in it that appears at the point when the disc ejects.  Or try to copy and paste anything that appears in the Log on your next burn when this happens.  Best yet, if a dialog window pops up asking you to insert the disc again, try pressing CTRL+C with the window highlighted and see if you can paste anything from that CTRL+C command into a post here.

Please help me here. I want to do this. I do not have a lot of experience with this. Can you tell me how to open the log. Say when my disk pops out during the but and I get the message. I will duplicate a burn tonight and screenshot a copy of the pop window I get. Then when I click ok and the process resumes I will take another screenshot and post it here too.
About opening the log when the disc ejects. This is where I don’t know how to do this. Can you explain in detail how to do this and I will love to try and post what I find. Then you say to try pressing CTRL+C with window highlighted. Not sure but is this the shortcut to screenshot? I use another program for this called shared but either way I will try these things latter and get back with the results. I so appreciate your help.  Also I have a question about my burner. Do you think it’s a bad one? It was t cheaper? It burns a lot of media types. Do you think it being a front loader isn’t as good as a one where you open, insert and close the drive?
Thanks!

Oh, sorry!  I meant to tell you how to open the Log in my last reply and I forgot.  Under Help choose ImgBurn Logs.  The folder with the .LOG file opens.  Actually, it may be easier to just open that folder with the .LOG file and attach the entire .LOG file to a reply here.  I'll go through it and see if there's anything I can glean from it.

If you have your own way of capturing screenshots, by all means use yours.  The CTRL+C is not a screen capture function.  It's the common Windows Copy keyboard shortcut.  It will just copy all of the text in an ImgBurn error window, if it's the highlighted window, to the Clipboard in Windows.  You can then Paste that info into a post.  A screenshot is probably better as CTRL+C will only copy the text in the window and possibly not the entirety of the window's contents.

I don't recommend slim drives at all.  They're generally riddled with issues.  I also don't recommend Pioneers for writing to 8x DVD+RW if you can find any because those have been borked in Pioneer firmware for over 10 years and they show no signs of fixing their errors.

Since I don't recommend slim drives, what I recommend is a half height internal drive like the WH16NS60 or the ASUS BW-16HT (Recommended.) Blu-Ray burners and put them in a USB 3.0 enclosure from VanTech (Recommended.) or an OWC (Other World Computing) one.  However, those are BD burners and you may not require burning to Blu-Ray media.  But, I've not used anything but Blu-Ray burners for about 10 years now, so I don't know what's good anymore for just DVD burners.

I’m burning a dvd now waiting for it to pop out and get a screenshot for you.
Now I’m worried about my new burner. I only have 2 more days to return it. I want a good one that burns everything from dvds and blu rays and mdiscs. Not that I and going to burn mdiscs now but just in case latter on. I thought Pioneer was a good Reliable brand. So you think my new burner is going to give me trouble I’ll get another one but research said it was good. How would I pick another one? I just got a new Computer. I don’t think there is room to add an internal burner. Any suggestions on picking a new one if you can’t help me?

Most PC's don't have bays for internal half height drives anymore, which is why I suggested getting an enclosure for them.  Half height bays are simply more reliable.

The current Pioneer 2213 BD burner is okay, but it has a few firmware issues the company won't address.  While they DID fix the 8x DVD+RW issue that had plagued them for over a decade, they introduced a NEW one!  They only write at 6x!  Also, 8x DVD+R DL will only write at 2.4x.

The ASUS I recommended supports writing M-Discs.  I never use that function, but it's nice to have it available should I ever partake of it.

I only ever get slim drives to use as readers for CD, DVD, and BD discs.  I wouldn't trust them to write anything.
