Hey All,

First thx to author for this great app!!!

Have been burning mega CD/DVD Data/Video 99% successfully with this drive but first venture with DL media with this drive.

DL problem...Have a Sony DRU-700A upped FW to VY08 and using Fuji (I know VB!!) +R DL (RITEK-D01-01) but I haven't gotten to the point of "coasters" as burn process never gets past Setting LO Data Zone Capacity which I assume is an internal mode/param throw to the drive for the given burn. It either errors out with unable to set or totally loops indefinitely having to power down to basically reset drive. Source is a DVD9 ISO ripped with DVD-Decrypter w/MDS file. Have tried different methods...MDS, stand-alone ISO mount > build setting layer break.

Kinda doubting at this point its media rather hw...any hints as to why failing/hanging at that? Am I missing something??

TIA

Iron

PS to author...Love some of the comments in modal dialog responses, especially the opening ISO with MDS present or close more than once. :D

Hi Iron:

Welcome to our forum.

I know you don't want to hear this but try it with Verbatim DVD+R DL media. You then rule out the most common cause of DL burning problems.

Thx mj for getting back ... am already looking for them and should have this wkend...will post result.

Any spectulation if still the same ... gut feeling is that results will be the same.

The drive does actually do some stuff when you send the command to set L0 layer break position. It's not just some configuration setting that gets changed, it does some burning. If it can't burn, that's why it gets stuck.

Verbatims all the way ;)

Let us know how it went with them after you've had a chance to try a few.

That error is from the Ritek DL's I reckon....

If it's not then please post a copy of the full log from ImgBurn so we can see what is going on.

Yes it is...but these are Sony's though. The VBs should be in any day.

I figured Sony drive > Sony DVDs should work right ... NOT!

I just have this feeling that I will get same results with VBs and that this is pointing to hw/drv.

Without a log its difficult to check the Media ID (Dye on those discs) but if they are still Ritek dye then you will of course still see the same problem.

You really need to forget about the name on the disc, Sony for e.g. and concentrate on the dye on the back of them. Verbatim DVD+R DL's are the only reliable DL media - period ! Anything else and you will be setting yourself up for hassles. As far as I know Sony don't make their own dye they outsource it so you can end up with a range of different dyes from Sony...... this goes for a lot of the other names out there - Memorex for e.g.

Get yourself to an online retailer that lists the media id of the discs they sell, www.svp.co.uk or www.meritline.com spring to mind. Then look for Verbatim DVD+R DL's for Dual layer media and Verbatim MCC dye or Taiyo Yuden TYG for DVD-R's.....

Got the VBs and the latest errors....total write fail. Final error-out dialog and log.

TIA for any info!

its a power calibration error ,the drive is unable to set the laser power to burn to those discs so it errors out ,its starting to look like the drive may have seen better days .Do you have access to another burner to try or maybe a friend can run one of the verbs for you

One other thing you can do is get a lens cleaner kit to clean the laser lens it may well be dirty

Posted (edited)

thx polopony...thats seems to make sense cause its burned over 1k cd/dvds. Only thought though is that I still continue to burn DVD-Rs no prob(10-12 since initial post). Is DL burner another science?? re: Clean, will try that also.

Also since this drive (Sony DRU-700a) has been a blessing, is it safe to say to get current generation of this drive or is there better??

Thx all for help and feedback,

Iron

Shouldn't you be choosing 2.4x as the write speed also ??

Edit: can't spell

zacoz, I always burn just under the rated speed. ESPECIALLY in this case since I was having problems.

Did try the clean and was unsuccessful.

Any feedback/issues w/Disc ID: MKM-003-00? These are 8x VB DL.

You should however burn at a speed which is supported by your drive/media combination. I can understand your thinking, and if your drive supported 2.4x and 4x then I'd say sure, burn at the lower supported speed.
