Altercuno Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Hi All, Been down PCWorld looking at the LiteOn 20x burners. ?35 for the internal, ?50 for the external. Anybody any thoughts?...
lfcrule1972 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Yeah, cheaper at SVP !! ?24.49 for the internal and ?35.25 for the external I might get one of these myself.....
Altercuno Posted March 5, 2007 Author Posted March 5, 2007 Thought they'd be cheaper online...but what about the burners as burners?
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I'm curious about the media. It's difficult finding decent media that'll burn at 8x.
dontasciime Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 mine is on its way hopefully will have it tomorrow or wednesday, got to reinstall comp as well will post a scan asap
Altercuno Posted March 5, 2007 Author Posted March 5, 2007 Dammit - while we're yacking on threads Donta's slipped in and bought one. Next time I'll post after I get it...
lfcrule1972 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Donta is always slipping one to people in the forum Shamus - For me I want it for it's scanning functions, I agree with 8x giving far better quality burns than 16x I can't see me rushing to buy 20x media !
Altercuno Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 Poor choice of words...forgot where I was Guess the media will follow as the drive speeds are pushed up...
lfcrule1972 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Maybe but we have had 16x burners and media for a while now and even the TY's and MCC dye Verbs are not high 90% on quality at those speeds....
Altercuno Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 Good point Dunno what to do now...I was all ready to get one and now its kinda fizzled out. Feels like coitus interruptus...
lfcrule1972 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Ah so you've met donta's Mrs then !! (That looks like it was taken at Busch Gardens.....) I didn't mean to put you off, I will probably still get one but I was just trying to make the point that I wouldn't buy one just for 20x writing !! I haven't seen any media rated to that speed yet and as can be seen from the disc tests we have done the faster you go the more you have to sacrifice the quality......
dontasciime Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 That looks like it was taken at Busch Gardens Surely you mean No Bush Gardens ? Alter It's been on order for nearly a week, I want it for scanning will obviously be trying to get my 16X media to burn at 20X to see what media does with it. Still get one if you really want it but try and get it online, unless the one at PC world for 35 does light scribe, though no need for LS when you have cheap ink Epson CD printer etc. So look at getting the drive online and maybe a 50 pack of decent disc's and postage for ?35 then your getting bargain
Altercuno Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 Thanks guys - all good points. To be honest I wanted to be the first kid on the block with 20x. You blokes beating me to it whats putting me off...
dontasciime Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 speed is not everything. as pointed out 8x writing is best scenario for good quality burns and anything above 8x with a good result is rare but to be treasured if it happens
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I couldn't be arsed. A 20x DVD burn with the current quality of media would be alot like wiping your date with a block of sandpaper. Sure, it'd do the job but the end result would just bring tears to your eyes.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 1st Burn + Scan with LH-20A1H http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtop...t=20#entry40448 I believe there's a bug in DVDInfoPro that's limiting the graph's 'Write Speed' line to 18x. It should actually be going right up to 20x.
Altercuno Posted March 7, 2007 Author Posted March 7, 2007 I don't believe it! LUK! got in first. Bet he feels really happy about that. I guess speed is everything Donta, especially when it comes to buying burners... Could somebody interpret the scans please...
dontasciime Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I guess speed is everything Donta Not at all, mine was sitting here yesterday morning. I was in no rush to install it and be 1st, as I am not at all interested in seeing who can piss the furthest, just fancied getting the drive as I had not bought one in 2 weeks Wait for the scan to interpret.
lfcrule1972 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Can I buy it off you donta before you piss all over it ??
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I've had mine since last friday along with the pioneer 112.
dontasciime Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I've had mine since last friday along with the pioneer 112. Yeah but I ordered mine last year from Ebuyer Altercuno I got a 1X Mag Burner in my garage if you wanna buy it.
lfcrule1972 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Mmm the test the boss did looks ok doesn't it ? Altho the CD speed rated it at 84% which is more what I would expect from those sort of speeds...
cornholio7 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Could somebody interpret the scans please... http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=2168
