I have been using ImgBurn fine since January and now, in the last 2 weeks I keep getting this:

post-5764-1173970021_thumb.jpg

post-5764-1173970100_thumb.jpg

It took 9 hours to get this far cuz I set it at 2x since 4x was what I was using and still getting the error.

I'm new at all this and not a techy so I hope these screen shots uploaded (if not I'll post another msg with the text part). I also won't understand an answer full of tech terms so if you could tell me in laymen's (2nd grade, lol) terms that would be great.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Have you tried burning at the rated speed (16x) rather than 2x/4x?

We've seen lots of issues with those sony discs lately... something tells me they're not very good at all.

Check your firmware is up-to-date and get some Verbatim (MCC dye) or Taiyo Yuden discs instead.

I was using the slower speed because I read that somewhere when I was setting all the software up.

Update what firmware (see I told ya I'm not a techy, lol)???

Were to I get those disks....I'm in a small town in the mountains so have to order them online.

Thanks...so far!!

Will check out the firmware part tonight but want to add that I'm using the same 100 spindle of DVD and nothing else has changed...been doing fine since January then out of the blue this starts. Could it be that I should just uninstall all the software and reinstall...seems like the DVDs would have been a problem before now....just a thought.

These are hardware errors, uninstalling software won't (shouldn't) make the blindest bit of difference.

The thing with drive / media combos is that you never know how well the burn has actually gone. (unless you scan them of course)

You could buy some discs, burn a few, leave it 6 months and then fail to burn any more. The first few you burnt were probably awful burns but JUST good enough so the drive didn't error out. 6 months later after the media has deteriorated slightly and your drive is a bit older (and dirtier), it just tips itself over the edge and won't then burn. There's nothing you can do about it, these things just happen.

Now I'm getting a "scratch" error (I had seen it a few times before) everytime I try. I've tried 4 different pre-recorded DVDs. Could I have more serious hardware problems than first thought (I updated the firmware last night). I also cleaned the DVDs after getting the error but still got the error.

I know this isn't a RipIt forum but I'm thinking that if I'm having serious hardware problems that that could be the same reason I'm having trouble with ImgBurn.

Here's the log with the error. Do you think I need a new drive?

Hi GV how are you? Nobody will be able to answer anything about ripping here due to legal reasons. That's my understanding anyway...

Altercuno is 100% right we can't help you with any ripping problems ,DVD Decrypter was shut down for its ripping ability and we wont jepordize IB by offering advice on ripping, sorry

I also fail to see what ripping a DVD has to do with burning onto a blank.
