Cant re-burn DVD+RW with DVD-ROM book type set

I had a DVD+RW disc that had been burned with video and had the DVD-ROM book type set. Being an RW, I wanted to erase and re-burn the disc. Unfortunately, no matter what I did with Imgburn 2.3.0.0, I couldn't get it to remove the DVD-ROM book type. I tried both quick and full erase, and even after ejecting the disc, Imgburn still refused to burn to the disc, stating that it was a DVD-ROM. Finally I gave up on Imgburn and opened up Alcohol 120%... I did a quick erase with its "reset booktype" option, and voila, it now shows up as a DVD+RW in Imgburn as well as my other burning apps.

So, the question is, why couldn't Imgburn deal with an RW with its booktype set? Is this a bug? Should there be a feature request to enable resetting of book types?

re write the disc and change booktype to what you want, it holds last write last recorded.

i misread what you typed but you should have still just tried to overwrite data

Well, it's awfully hard to re-write when Imgburn refuses to do anything to a disc it thinks is non-writable...

It's probably too late now but I'd have like to see the info from the panel on the right within ImgBurn when the disc was booktyped to DVDROM.

ImgBurn doesn't care about the booktype value, it's looking at the 'Current Profile' field most of the time - and that's what the drive thinks the disc is.

I bet what actually happened here is that you've got Alcohol emulating DVDROM for writable media and so ImgBurn never sees the disc for what it is.

Turn the option off in Alcohol and your problems will go away.

Alcohol does this itself automatically when IT wants to burn a disc, that's why it works when nothing else will.

Interesting idea. I'm not at the system for the weekend, but when I get some free time I'll see if I can replicate the situation and test it. Thanks!
