flitsch Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 hi there. i wanted to make a copy of a dvd of mine. i searched for a guide and found this one here: http://board.gulli.com/thread/720379-tutor...a-god-of-war-2/ i did everything step by step, except the fact that i can?t change booktype because i have no DVD-R option as "change for" option. i am using a nec nd 4570a. and verbatim dvd-r dl dvds. as i read in another topic if i use these kind of dvds i don?t have to change the booktype to dvd-rom. i set "layerbreak" to calculate optimal and chose write speed 4*. now if i want to start burning the disk i get an error message: cannot set the layer break position when burning a dvd-r dl media in dao mode. do you want to continue? now my question: do i want to continue? will it work anyways? best regards flitsch
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Generally speaking you're much better off using DVD+R DL rather than DVD-R DL. As it says, you can't set the layer break position for -R DL media. That's one of it's drawbacks. All you can do is try to burn whatever it is that you're burning and then test it. It'll either work or it won't - in which case you just lost a few quid.
mmalves Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 You can only booktype DVD+R(W) single/dual layer media. Notice that even if you try with Verbatim DVD+R DL media, your drive may need a firmware upgrade to allow/support booktyping/bitsetting. By the way, are you trying to backup your God of War II DVD9? If I recall correctly, you can shrink it to DVD5...
flitsch Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 thanks for your help. yes indeed it is my god of war II i am trying to backup. i use -R because i read so many times that they are better for the ps2. since i am not so experienced with ripping dvds it would be harder for me to shrink it to dvd5. i?ll try if it?ll run after burning with the error message.
flitsch Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 game started. i?ll see further when i proceed with the game.
blutach Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I'd be surprised if -R is better for the PS2 given SONY were part of the +R alliance or consortium or whatever. Regards
