Elad Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 I know Plextor and Lite-On is the best, buy is hard to find them today, and in my cuntry. What about Pionner or NEC? Thanks.
LOCOENG Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 I would second the NEC....alot of people are having a good time with Samsung burners now too.
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I'd get a Pioneer simply because they support automatic bitsetting - meaning you don't have to fart around with config files to get +R/+R DL media to work in a normal DVD player.
lfcrule1972 Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I got a Pioneer at the start of the year and it's the best drive I have ever used. Previously I have had 3x NEC's which are solid and reliable and a BenQ that allows me to perform disc scans. For general use tho the Pioneer is the best !
chewy Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 (edited) when did pioneer implement autobitsetting for dvd+r? afaik you had to use the buffalo firmware and pioneer burns dl best but the samsungs do sl better and bitsett with stock firmware newer nec's aren't as good as the 35xx/45xx line??????? chewy Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 (edited) I am real confused? Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):Disc ID: BeAll000-PG0-00 Book Type: DVD+R http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=3116 afaik corn complained about this issue a while back Edited May 25, 2007 by chewy
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 None of the Pioneers bitset DVD+R as standard, only DVD+R DL. As you say chewy, you need the Buffalo firmware to get bitsetting on DVD+R SL media. That's the whole reason people crossflash to the Buffalo firmware - otherwise there would be no point!
chewy Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 thanks LUK, I thought I was losing my memory from zimer's
dontasciime Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Correction to my earlier post 108 and after 4 DL+ , as post got edited at 3.37 I thought we were talking dual layer looking back on your post Chewy you did say +R as in single
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I am real confused? I'm just an idiot. You're right. I'm wrong. If you'll excuse me I'll just slide back under my rock until this all blows over.
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Sure can. Can't quite seem to get all of me under it though. Where's my tongs.............?

Night over at you know where swears his pioneer was only good with DL, course he's got 5 or 6 maybe more benq's and many hundreds of TY's stockpiled, he pulled his pioneer and put it back in the closet, said the benq's burn DL almost as good anyway and he likes to scan his burns. Had a new plex(external) and gave it away to a fellow member cause it wasn't up to his standards, now that's picky.
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I have huge problems with my Pioneer 112 burning CDs. It won't touch them. Music CDs or linux CDs fail everytime. My 105, 106, 109 do CDs happily. Go figure.
cornholio7 Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Can you find your rock ok old fella ? its under the drive that killed the cat
lfcrule1972 Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 My Pioneer 111 doesn't recognise CDs at all Shamus - keep meaning to look into it but never have the time.
LOCOENG Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I think I'm going to boot for a Plexy next go round....
chewy Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 (edited) it might be a crossbrand? http://wesleytech.com/plextor-exits-cd-dvd-markets/63/ but then this reaffirmation http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=164336 Edited May 25, 2007 by chewy
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 There are known problems with the 112 / 212's burning CD's Shamus mate. The speedlabs.org forum has a guy from Pioneer who's recently started posting on it and one of his thread discusses that very issue! If the 1.21 firmware doesn't fix the issues, I would think the next one will. http://forums.speedlabs.org/index.php?topic=2303.0
