I received the following I/O error when trying to burn an ISO generated by PgcEdit to a Verb DVD+R DL disc. Please note that the error was NOT due to me ejecting the tray. I ejected it because of the error. Normally I never do this but after already having burned one DL coaster I wasn't about to repeat the same costly mistake again.

ok well that's a coaster now.

Do you have the log of the failed burn?

I doubt the specific error you've taken a screenshot of was the first one to pop up - it would be VERY odd if it was.

You're correct--I didn't printscreen the initial error. The one posted above was done on a subsequent burn (the error is reproducible) but I had ejected the tray before the burn started to avoid another coaster. Unfortunately I no longer have the original log file because I restored from a previous backup. I have no problems burning with Nero 8 but I'd rather use ImgBurn because I have more control over where I can place the layer break.

Are there any conflicts between Alcohol 120%/Nero 8/K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and Imgburn? (I don't use nor have I ever installed Daemon Tools or PowerISO).

Even after restoring from a backup and removing Alc120, I still get the error (as I mentioned previously it's reproducible). The error seems to have occurred right at the layer break (51% in ImgBurn). My BenQ 1650 has no such problems with PgcEdit/ImgBurn.

This is the first error received:

post-8987-1193546598_thumb.jpg

I hit Retry, the disc spun but I got the same error, so I hit Cancel. After canceling I received this error:

post-8987-1193546695_thumb.jpg

Again, I tried hit Retry but got the same error again. After hitting Cancel the disc took a while to finalize and finally ejected the disc (I have my options set up to eject after a complete write).

Here's what the DL disc looks like after being read by ImgBurn now:

its looking very much like the samsung just does'nt like the verbatims

you could try setting the write speed to 2.4X . you have it set to 8X and the discs are only recognised by the drive as 2.4x or 4x ( slower is better with dual layer).

you say your Bemq has no problems with PGCedit/Imgburn , BUT have you tried burning one of these verbatims from the same spindle on the benq in between the failed ones with the samsung , to eliminate faulty media ?

I notice on both logs, that you specified the layer break position? , how may options did it offer you for the layer rbeak each time ?

From this same spool I had no problems burning at 6x with my Pioneer 112D and 4x with the BenQ 1650. I just tried the Samsung again with Nero and you guys are right: The max burn speed for the MKM 001s is 4x with the SH-203B. I'm not sure how ImgBurn sets the max burn speed but I think in my case is was relying on the info sent to it via PgcEdit, which was 8x. While the Pioneer is capable of burning 8x with the 001s, I'd never burn at that speed because I think it's pushing the media too far. I burn at 6x all the time with no problems.

I think where some of my confusion set in was that I was confusing the MKM 001s with the 003s. Both the 112D & SH-203B can burn MKM 003 @10x. But at a net cost of $4/disc, the 003s are just too expensive for me. So now I'm going to either return the Samsung to Newegg or perhaps give it to my friend. I just have to make sure there are no issues with her DFI ICFX3200.

Just so you know it is the user who sets the speed finally.

Software reports what the drive firmware/media is capable of, the 2.4x mkm disc's are rated at 2.4x and should work at their rated speed but there are too many hardware configs to be accurate 100% (if a disc reports 2.4x 4x 6x 8x 10x 12x 16x 18x) no guarantee your writer can write with any of those speeds.

Generally speaking the rated speed is the best to choose unless you know otherwise (4x for your samsung and 2.4x verbs seems to suit that drive better) well so far.
