Duminas Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 This has been happening a lot with these TDK discs I have, but I can't understand why. There was an error popup that came up (but I since closed it--if something coasters again, I'll edit it in here), but basically... the discs appear to burn, then instantly fail when Validation starts with a "Check Condition" error. LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 'Check Condition' is a generic term, it's something for me rather than you The actual error is this one: E 14:36:13 Failed to Read Sector 4705 - No Seek Complete So the drive has produced a disc it can't actually read back - i.e. a low quality burn. You could try speeding up the burn a bit, it might actually be better. Failing that, look for firmware updates and then try getting some better media (you get what you pay for!)
Duminas Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 (edited) So 4x might work better? Thanks, I'll give that a shot next time! It's kinda funny--immediately after I posted here, I tried again, and the burn completed OK. Bizarre. More bizarre, though, is that in searching I found "Datawrite Titanium" DVDR media (here) using the same manufacturer ID. Is this just TDK and them being careless in branding, or did something else happen? It's been quite sporadic with these discs. Case in point, the next burn. Different error, this time. Same cause? Though it is odd that it didn't start going 6x until about halfway through the burn. As to firmware, this drive doesn't seem to have any updates, though I may be looking in the wrong place. polopony Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 around here we recommend Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden discs as being the most consistent all other media is hit and miss, a change to one or the other should take care of the problem as far as not getting to 6x write speed all burners start at a slower speed and gradually get faster .Think of a DVD as a set of circles ,its written from the inner hub out to the edge, small amount of info at the inner hub slower speed at the outer edge there is a great deal more info and the burner increases speed to the max you either choose or the rated speed of the media .The firmware of the drive has a lot to do with what speeds are available to use
Duminas Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 (edited) Just like a hard disk, eh? Thanks for the explanation. And sadly, Verbatim discs have the same kind of error. Specifically, the manufacturer ID on the ones I got is [MCC 03RG20]--they just give me an "LBA out of range" error similar to what I posted above. I 23:03:35 Verifying Sectors... (LBA: 0 - 1480527) E 23:11:35 Failed to Read Sector 0 - Logical Block Address out of Range Screenshot: Perhaps the drive is going? Seems odd to do so after ~8 months, but... LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Get some TYG02 Taiyo Yuden discs. If they don't work either (burning at 8x), get yourself a new drive.
Duminas Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 I'll look into getting some soon, then. Thanks for your help with this so far, everyone!
dontasciime Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 The disc's you have burnt that failed at verify stage can you try and verify them on another drive. Just did a quick search on your drive and there is not much hope for it tbh, even liggy cannot dump the firmware. There are also quite a few reports that the drive has issues reading.
