Pops Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 I have been burning ISO files made with Ulead Video Studio 11 Pro and I consistently get a finalizing disk error, I select retry and then it works. The problem is that when I put the disk in my DVD player it says the disk is dirty and will not play it. The disk will play on the computer. Disks I am using are Sony +R. Log file is as follows: I 16:37:11 ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Try the A111 firmware (click the link below). A111 Firmware Link You might also like to try slowing the burn down to 8x or 12x. After that, ditch the Sony discs and try some Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden ones instead. It might be an idea to re-enable the 'Verify' option too so you know you're getting a good burn (as obviously yours are questionable at the moment).
blutach Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 1. Update your firmware - see here. 2. Burn slower - 8x 3. Change to Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blanks. 4. Check your DMA - see link in my signature. Regards
blutach Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 @LUK! Seems there's an echo in here!!! Regards
Pops Posted January 28, 2008 Author Posted January 28, 2008 I have updated the firmware using the link provided by Lightning. I tried burning at 8X and then at 12X Still get the same result finalize fails the first time and then on retry works perfectly. Disk will play on computer but not in DVD player (shows as 'disk is dirty') I will pick up some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blanks tomorrow....
Pops Posted January 28, 2008 Author Posted January 28, 2008 Oh, Blutach, I checked the DMA and it was good...

All symptoms of dodgy media....I'm sure things will be looking up when you get some decent ones.
BoSox2882 Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I know that better media is often suggested. But, to be honest with you guys, I have never really much problems with "dodgy" media. I use Verbatim DVD+R 16X MCC's on anything that is of importance or archiving and burn with my BenQ 1620 at 8x. But, I have gotten all different kinds of shady media as presents, from friends, etc. In fact I have been using some old phillips DVD+R's CMC Mag dye's that won't burn any faster than 4X and even they have worked. I have used a Litey 6s series, LG H10L, and BenQ 1620.
spinningwheel Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Bo; What you wrote is true, IN YOUR CASE, not necessarily any one else's. When we give our most basic advice...change media to Verb or TY, that's because we've seen the symptoms a couple thousand times and really do know what we're talking about. Your 'dodgy' media may well burn right, verify correctly and play back on everything you can possibly use. But...you will need to check it in 6 months and then a year from now, and then a year from then and see what you have remaining of your data. I play back data I've archived 5 years ago without a problem, and that's on the old Ritek, before they went downhill, TY and Verb discs. I have long ago thrown out the Playo, new Ritek, Memorex, Ricoh, TDK. Sony and other discs that I experimented with because they turned to crap over time. In the final result, you will use whatever you want, but if you care to have your data uncorrupted for as long as possible, you'll follow the advice we give and give away the rest of the crap to unsuspecting friends....just like yours did to you....
