Hello all! Newcomer here and have been reading the FAQ and existing posts on I/O Error: Write Error.

I realise majority of the problem stems from the actual discs itself and/or the DVD drive.

I have been trying to burn ISO onto a DVD-R with imgburn on default settings and this is the log:

I 12:53:41 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started!

I 12:53:41 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3)

W 12:53:41 Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size.

I 12:53:42 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...

B'ah! Knew it would be the drive.

Cheers for your help. I'm no good with computer stuff so what type of drives should I be looking for?

I updated my drive from the link you provided. I think I need a new drive because I tried to burn after update and restart, this is what I got from imgburn.

You were right on the first time. MBI discs are crap. Go get some Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens.

Got some Verbs and updated my DVD drive. It burned but an error appeared when it came to verifying the disc.

Dang! I had a few discs that failed to burn mixed up with good ones in my spindle.

In response to LightningUK I tried to burn at 8x and it worked! I always thought 2x speed is a more thorough and safer option.

to sort your 'used' discs from the unburned ones, put ImgBurn in write mode MODE > WRITE , put a disc in your drive, make sure the correct drive shows in the destination box and look in the right window pane .(see below) to see what it says for Status. if it says Empty, you can still use the disc
