You don't need to 'test' to see if the warnings/triangles will come up, they WILL come up if you get the overburn/truncate prompt! If you don't get the prompt (and haven't messed with the LB settings), they won't come up. It's as simple as that. They aren't the cause of your problems anyway (well, not beyond the whole 'truncating' rather than burning the full image thing) so it makes no difference. Verify checks that everything written to the disc is physically readable and that it matches what's in the image file. As you're having problems with things supposedly being 'unreadable', I'd say that re-enabling the 'Verify' option is a bit of a no brainer.

It all boils down to your drive not liking the discs. I can't tell you why it has a problem with them, only that is has. The error messages you see there in the log are exactly what the drive returns to the program when it fails to do what has been asked of it (i.e. write zeroes to some sectors).

Does it at least burn and verify ok? Don't forget that you're truncating and therefore the disc is missing data. I wouldn't find it strange that something known to be incomplete doesn't work properly.

If it won't fit, you're going to get those 4 warnings in the log (well, not exactly those 4 when it's on 'calc optimal' but close to them). That's what SHOULD be happening and is perfectly normal. The warnings are just warnings, they don't change the outcome.

It should always be on calculate optimal. Once it's on that, you'll get a warning saying the image won't fit on the disc before ever seeing anything about the layer break position being unacceptable for your drive/media. If you don't ever want to see the warnings again, buy the right hardware.

No, that guide would be no good. You need a DOS bootable disc that loads CD-ROM drivers, which then gives you access to the rest of the stuff burnt on the CD (i.e. the BIOS update). Most BIOS can be updated within Windows these days or via a USB memory stick when you're in the BIOS screen. There might even be a bootable ISO image you can just burn as-is. I guess it depends on which machine/motherboard you have

You've set a custom ('user specified') layer break position that's beyond what's physically possible on the drive/disc. Change the layer break setting back to 'Calculate Optimal' and leave it alone.

Ok well just stick with it then and accept a few coasters.

Your drive has a problem with the disc and reported a 'Write Error'. Give it another go. If it still does the same thing, try another disc. If it still does the same thing, try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc (and then try full erasing both discs again). If it still does the same thing after that, get another drive.

You can't get rid of them. You're trying to do something with your drive that's just not possible... you need a very specific piece of (modified) hardware to burn using that layer break position. Do some research over at an xbox forum.

It doesn't do it on my machine and I'm running 306.23. Actually, I've run all of the beta and whql drivers they've released in as long as I can remember and don't recall ever seeing such a problem. I'm on Win 7 SP1 x64 if that matters. What sort of error box are you seeing? A basic Windows one or the special one that ImgBurn normally pops up when it crashes (where you can then opt to send me a bug report) ?

You'd need to speak to the AVStoDVD people for help with their application. I have nothing to do with anyone that uses ImgBurn for burning, I just work on ImgBurn itself.

I have no idea what you're talking about, sorry.

Try and avoid using the cheaper LTH discs, stick with the (slightly more expensive) HTL ones... or just put up with your drive erroring out more frequently. You may also find your drive does a better job of burning them at one of the faster speeds it claims to support burning them at.

SATA 1 (150) is more than enough for any speed burning on optical discs. As I said before, even if USB 3.0 could cope with the I/O requests, you're likely to run into issues with the random accessing on a single drive. I think 70MB/s would be asking too much...but you might get lucky!
