  1. Drives often slow themselves down in order to minimise noise. It's sometimes called Riplock, quiet mode, silent mode etc. If you're playing a film using the drive as the reader, you wouldn't want it spinning at max speed as it would annoy you. I cannot explain why this has 'suddenly' started happening. It's something built into the drive's firmware and so should have always been an issue. I actually recall spending time trying to get around this issue with certain newer LG drives and I could have sworn it made it into 2.5.7.0 and (or maybe just) 2.5.8.0. It'll be mentioned in the changelog. I very much doubt the 'trick' will activate in Verify mode though as that's really just meant for verifying burnt discs. You'd need to check the read speed in Read mode. The 'Current Read Speed' is what the drive reports it's currently configured to read at. So it's going to start at around 2.5x and will end at about 6x. If a program simply issues lots of 'Read' commands, that's the speed the drive will go. Software can issue a request to change the speed but the drive may ignore or override it.
  2. Clear the drives opc history. Burn mkm-001-00 at 4x with force hypertuning and over speed enabled. Change the io interface back to spti. Install service pack 1 for windows 7 and all the other updates Once you've burnt a disc, scan it with kprobe at 4x and post the result please - both the graph itself and the summary text.
  3. What happens if you turn 'force hypertuning' back off? Try with decent verbatim 8x mkm-003-00 discs.
  4. Your successful burns were of much smaller images. If you want to burn the larger ones, you need the correct drive / media.
  5. Successful burning is all about the drive/firmware/media combo you're using. Software itself has very little to do with it. As that machine appears to be running Vista, I'm going to assume it's not new. Try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc. Try a new spindle of discs (they're good, so get the same 'MCC' ones again). I guess you could try Verbatim DVD+R though. If the drive still fails to burn, you'll have to put another drive in that laptop or give up with it and use you old machine.
  6. It has nothing to do with what you're burning (this image or that image - assuming they're the same size), it's just a drive/firmware/nedia combo issue. Post the log please.
  7. OpenCandy *offers* 3rd party applications during the installation wizard. If you don't want them, opt out of installing them. That's all there is to it. The previous version always offered a toolbar. The newer version (released a couple of years ago!) is just a little more dynamic and you can get offered whatever OpenCandy has in its portfolio.
  8. The 5280S-CB is a special drive DB and I believe is still being produced by Vinpower Digital in one way or another. They're still available on Amazon anyway and no other Optiarcs are really.
  9. Yes, if it fails to verify, there's something wrong with it. Be sure to verify it in your Optiarc though, not the Asus.
  10. Is the disc actually 100% readable? Verify it against the image you burnt. You could try another new spindle of discs. If it does the same thing, the problem might be the drive itself.
  11. The newer LG drives use a different chipset and the firmware may use a different command for the booktype stuff (i.e. not the 'normal' LG one). Are you sure the drive doesn't automatically change the booktype to DVD-ROM anyway? There's also a firmware update available for it. http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/WH16NS40/files.html
  12. You'd need to use something that can re encode them to DVD video standard / quality and build you a menu. ImgBurn only burns what you give it.
  13. Does the same happen if you burn at 4x ? As for the ones you've already burnt, put one back in the drive and go into read mode. Copy and paste the disc information from the box on the right.
  14. Edit the default destination option in the settings, I'm sure that'll do what you want it to.
  15. Load it in Write mode (which is the only way to burn an ISO) and it'll tell you if it's bootable where it mentions the file systems.
  16. You may find that's where the manufacturers recovery stuff is located... so you can revert to factory defaults etc. You usually gain access to what's on it by pressing a certain key during the initial boot up sequence.
  17. Your drive certainly seems to be having trouble reading them back. A retry or 2 might work around the issue but there must be some underlying problem. If you had the hardware to scan the disc to check the burn quality, you'd probably find it's not very good - or the drive is just bad at reading those discs in general. You might like to try installing the most recent firmware. http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/BE14NU40/files.html I'd also recommend trying the other available write speeds as the drive might do a better job when burning more slowly. So, update the firmware and try burning at 4x instead of 'MAX'.
  18. Yes, the format rate would match the write speed rate.
  19. What 3rd party apps were you offered to install? You had the chance to opt out of installing them. It's not cool that something removed your custom searches and you should contact opencandy about that so they can get the 3rd party app developer to fix it. It's not something I've done.
  20. If the text in that box from the CMD line is 110% the same as what gets put in there when you click the browse button and select the file manually, it should work fine. Copy and paste each version into notepad or something and compare.
  21. What's written in the boot image file field on the 'bootable disc' tab when you close out of the error prompt? Has it been filled out with what you expect it to say?
  22. Ignore that bit of text, it's just my signature and gets appended to all of my posts. It wasn't aimed at you.
  23. Start with the default settings and then just change the file system selection to UDF.
  24. Well, vcd doesn't support bin and cue so that'll never work. I have no experience of disc magic or ofs mount. If they only work with ISO images, they won't work either as it's not an ISO.
