back to basics
an ISO is just a handy container for almost all image files
to be DVD compliant the files within the ISO have to be VOBS,IFOs,BUPS ect ect
Imgburn will build you a dvd and burn it if you only have the VOBS,IFOs,BUPS files ( or just create an ISO of it onto your hdd for you if you choose)
in WRITE mode it will burn any ISO's you have on your hard drive to a disc
BUILD mode eliminates the need of having to create an ISO to your HDD before you can burn it to disc
Build mode will either create a dvd compliant disc ( providing all the required files are there to start with, OR it will create a DATA disc of any kind of files you want or have , but if they aint DVD structure compliant to start with, ImgBurn wont convert them.
If yoiur struggling timewise with convertxtodvd try something else, personally i find it the fastest encoder there is . i also use ImgBurn to burn the disc in BUILD like LOCOENG does.
I have to agree with you, the GUIDES section in the online support is not very good . it didnt even tell me how to switch my computer on before i chose one of the ELEVEN !!! guides to use
go read this page GUIDES PAGE ----- CLICK HERE and all will be revealed
PS. dont forget to switch your PC on first , as the guides dont tell you that bit

its all about cost .
2 x good DV5's 60p
1 x good DV9 1.50p
to me ,Dual layer never really got started !
-
you only really need the MD5 file when its a file larger than 4.35GB ( dual layer media)
this is because the MD5 will contain the info for the layer break.
Its not vital, because if your files to big for a DV5 disc, and there isnt a suitable layer break , ImgBurn will tell you or suggest what to do about it anyway
curiosity, how large was your "smallest" file that gave you an MD5 ?
-
Its your media ,I 01:32:33 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: CMC MAG. AE1) (Speeds: 2x, 4x, 8x)
pure garbage im afraid .
Its that bad that the burner that just wrote to it cant even read the disc back
get some Taiyo yudens or verbatims

Thanks Donta , i did check that when installing and your correct, they come set as a sata 1 drive.
i left mine at that as there's some doubt wether the icybox will work as sata 2 . but I will experiment as the days go on.
managed to back up 17gb onto it so far , only another 140Gb to get back to where i was last week LOL
-
well its here and installed , so i did a test using firstly the usb 2 connection, then secondly the eSATA connection.
both tests done using a specialist program running for 1 minute on the same laptop with anti virus running

apparently its normal for a sata2 drive to show as a scsi drive ( acc to some ms site i checked on)
so for anyone considering a faster option on a laptop, this appears to be the answer ( for the time being)
pcmcia e-Sata card + Sata2 hard drive + external case with both e-Sata and USB 2 ports
for a comparison , heres the results of my 2 internal drives on the same laptop
this is the drive with the OS on it

product = 400 GB Seagate ST3400620AS Barracuda 7200.10, SATA II, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.5 ms
i paid 56.27 from here scan
ebuyer wants 104.27 almost DOUBLE !!!! ebuyer
and there was me thinking ebuyer was a cheap supplier !!! Just goes to show, you HAVE to shop around.
dare say i could have found it even cheaper but i got a few other things from there as well . 1 lot of shipping costs

Dear Simon Cowell
my friend donta has kindly offered to accept 750 gig's , so if you would like him to host the next 750 hopefulls in the next round of X factor audition's...................
-
Verbatims it is, I guess (or maybe TDK)
errr , no . Verbatims and ONLY verbatims for dual layer projects
-
320gb seagate was pre order at scan , so got a 400gb instead . nothing special, as i dont think for 1 minute i will even get sata 1 speeds with the pcmcia setup
unfortunately donta, there fresh out of hitachi 1TB's
-
the bulk of media ( apart from verbs) screw up around the midway point.(give or take a % or 2)
basically , although the disc claims to be dual layer, the quality is that low that burners struggle to recognise the 2nd layer is even there

is this a wii image ?

OK, before you trap off anymore
the help here is given by volunteers who are spread around the world. you may be in a differant time zone to anyone who can help you, so be patient and wait for replies.( what country are you in ? )
No one in here will insult you for trying to learn
regarding attatching the log in your first post, it appears that you attatched the "failure" sound file and NOT the log file you was asked for .
to get the log file window up ( if its not already visible) , in the main ImgBurn window , select the "VIEW" button then click on "LOG" , then another window will appear " the log file" window.
when its opened hit the "FILE" button, then the "OPEN" button and browse to log of a failed attempt
copy and paste all that it says into your next post.
regarding what Polo has already advised
hit the "MODE" button across the top of the main window , choose "WRITE" from the sub menu , then copy and paste all the info that appears in the right window pane, and anything that appears in the "LOG" window ( i mentioned it above how to view the log window)

here is a little guide by someone called blutach ( I'm sure ive heard that name before somewhere )
anyway , it worked for me a guide by blutach on splitting cells
-
to be able to help you , we could do with seeing a log file of a failed burn

the update !!
spent far to long searching for an icybox/dock that suits
after reading the replies above, i wanted
sata hdd with no size limit ( sizes are limited at 330GB on many icy models)
esata and usb 2 connectivity
fan cooled box ( looks like icy have moved away from fans)
swappable caddies ( again, limited to non fan cooled boxes)
couldnt find one the same as LUK's anywhere either, apart from a robbing thieving bast on ebay
only 1 place does the spare caddys as well as the boxes ive been looking at ( thanks for that one lmao2k )
so the outcome is im going for a
but not from here, as its cheaper elsewhere
with a spare caddy
and 2 x 300gb+ sata I or II drives . or maybe a 500gb for the time being with another to follow after xmas
NOW i need opinions on drives though ?
currently looking at hitachi deskstar or seagate !
thanks everyone for the response's as so far
-
Thanks all of you
so many to choose from , i gave up for a while.
just off to Italy for 3 days ( working unfortunately) , but will follow up when i get back

interesting idea about the hotswap caddies
whose the preferred supplier at present ?
thanks both of you for the suggestions
-
Having just lost a 160gb external drive im in need of a replacement.
Im toying with the idea of an external drive ( already made as opposed to fitting a drive in an enclosure myself)
i NEED the following features
USB 2
firewire 1394
300gb + ideally a seagate .........only because i was led to beleive they are the best and have 5 year warranty
whats throwing me though is eSATA drives .
many modern external drives are mainly USB2 and eSATA , with the occasional one having firewire as well. but you pay a premium for a firewire connection on an ext hdd.
would an external hdd drive ( this seagate model work well with this type of adaptoreSATA pcmcia card
i dont expect to get 3gb transfer speeds, as no other pcmcia card adapter has ever matched a desktop equivalent. but if it beats USB 2 speeds that will do
am i right in asuming i would be able to use it as a simple large hdd or does raid come into it at all .
opinions and advice welcomed
thanks
