  1. i thought genuine TYG02 only went upto 8x ?

i know some drives will write faster than 8x to them ( plextor ? ) but not sure about an NEC . maybe soemone with a drive that writes faster than 8x to a genuine TYG02 disc can confirm if it shows more than 8x in the disc ID info part of the log

    I 12:42:09 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: TYG02) (Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x)

  2. ive had voice activation for IB for about 3 years .................... I just tell the kids to hit the big button and hey presto .

Try your voice activation software on the Mrs , bet you it dont work >_<

" hey Love, make us a brew? " then her voice activation will kick in with a swift " Make it yourself" !!

thers 2 kinds of disc size ,

    DV5 and

    DV9

DV5 is a single layer disc holding around 4.35Gb of data ( its labeled as 4.7Gb but only holds 4.35GB) .

we recommend using taiyo yuden or Verbatim datalife plus for single layer -R format

DV9 is a dual layer disc holding around 8.14GBGb of data ( its labeled as 8.5Gb but only holds 8.14GB)

we recommend you only use verbatim +R ones though, the other brands and formats are not to clever

Your writer needs to be capable of burning DL (Dual layer) though. Most modern writers are capable of this.

Dual layer discs are slightly more expensive though.

to confuse it a little, theres several formats of the 2 sizes

+R , -R , RW , RAM , ect ect , and again it depends on what your writer is capable of writing .theres a nice little tool within ImgBurn that will tell you what your drive can and cannot do (make sure you select the correct drive in the "destination" box whilst in MODE > WRITE or MODE > BUILD modes)

TOOLS button > DRIVE button > CAPABILITYS

if your drive can burn both +R and -R then go for ones that your standalone player will handle ( google your dvd player model for its specs)

  4. ImgBurn will burn your 7GB file to a Dual layer disc for you, however if you only want to use a single layer DV5 disc then its off to Google for the answers

DVDShrink compresses, and Imgburn only burns im afraid. with IB ,what goes in is what comes out

  5. ImgBurn and its forerunner ( which will remain nameless) was'nt intended for novices, it was more for people who knew what an IFO , UP , VOB , ISO ect ect was.

having read the links you gave , all of them had been answered/covered in the guides section or the web site.

I can see your point about a simplified interface, but i dont think theres a need for it, as the intention of the support forum was to help anyone with difficulties, wether they had simple or technical issues. Also this method allowed people to help each otehr in real time as well, as opposed to guessing what a certain phrase or statement actually meant

Anyone who "wants" to use a program will find how to use it if they really want to , even if it means asking in the "Help" section.

I dont think theres been anyone who has'nt found out how to use it yet after coming in here and asking.

Nero's the same, it may have a simplified "express" menu, but you still have to select files to work with using the "ADD" button . regarding nero , as you said, you still have to show them how to use the "Express" interface !!.

there IS lots of options within ImgBurn , but as the home page says

" Whilst ImgBurn is designed to work perfectly straight out of the box, advanced users will appreciate just how configurable it is."

Like all programs, if you mess with settings and you dont know what they do, your bound to get into troubles, however, if you leave ImgBurn at default/installation settings, you should be able to burn a disc without problems.

to create a simple Interface , as you mentioned, you have to have hardly any options/choices at all , unfortunatley not eveyone wants to make the same disc/content of the same thing, so you have to have options .

I tried your program on a basic XP machine, and it gave me the ".NET framework initiallization error", prompting me to ask my application publisher about which version to use. admittedly you said it was included in vista, however i would guess the majority of PC users round the world are still on XP , so i foresee a few users getting problems trying to install .NET framework anyway. point being that even the simplest of statements can cause confusion. its all about how something is explained

  6. HS0E appears to be the latest , have you got an HP computer though ?? if so, you should use the HP16 link on that page

power calibration errors is usually related to the actual quality/type of media

interestingly the write speed selected by you was 1x yea ? or thats what the log above shows .whereas the write speedss for that disc are reported as Speeds: 0x, 2.4x

suggest wait for more replies before trying to change firmware again though

  7. stever

basically ................yes , it is you and not the program

ImgBurn will burn any Image/iso that you want, but for it to play on a DVD player , it MUST be a DVD Compliant structure.

An MP4 file isnt DVD compliant, so you need to make it DVD compliant , hence Google is your friend

  8. Pot calling the kettle black eh volvo? :)

And what's wrong with possie? Or would you prefer pozzie? :D

    Regards

LOL i was thinking pussie >_<

    edit

"L" on my keyboard types up an "F" for some reason

    <changing to keyboard test mode>

    mary had A fittfe famb

its ffeece was white as snow

    everywhere that mary went

that famb was sure to go

<end keyboard test, reverting to vofvo typo mode>

  9. it is in mp4 format.

you have to convert it into a DVD compliant structure , ImgBurn then burns the data to disc . ...........................................................Google is your friend

i have been making movies from the interenet for a couple of years now and this one is kicking my arse. lol

    naughty naughty

  10. +R used to be the most common format as a few years back the majority of players were mainly only +R capable

over the last few years -R has become the most commonly used i believe .

Older players handled +R but most people in this throw away age have bought a cheap player from a supermarket which handles all fomats .

My personal reason for the -R format was availability of media and all my players will play -R . taiyo Yuden appeared to be the most compatable media that all players would play ( Ive had panasonic players that would not play verbatim !! ) and thats why i stuck with them . i only use 8x media anyway , so TYG02 ID is the one i go for. Not overly impressed with TYG03 at more than 8x writing .

although TY's are dearer than most , they proved to be money well spent . originaly 50p a disc, but now down to about 30p , ive only had 6 coasters in over 700 discs, and everyone of those discs is still readable.

It used to amount to finding a disc your writer and player both liked, riteks G04 was good for me, then they went onto G05 and they became unstable, hence the switch to TY's

  11. if you have a look at the disc info in svp's pages, some discs ( -R) can be either MCC or Taiyo and others are mainly taiyo.

In all honestly , i only buy genuine -R Taiyo yuden branded Taiyos

looking thru the +R ones, theres only the Disc ID of YUDEN000T03 in the 16X non printable

and 16x printable DISC ID is MCC 004

was it verbatim who recently opened a factory in India or Thailand or a 3rd world country somewhere ?
