my sharpie is real fast

I see the 3550 is crossflashable to a 4551! Anyone tried this?
That raises an ethical question and about crapped up all the hard work Liggy has done in support of nec drives. It took a week or so to sort out the flashers and remove that issue and get the firmware links
back up. Nec has liscensing obligations that were jepordized with this issue and cdfreaks was put in a
shakey legal position. With all due respect Cdfreaks and Nec have come out smelling like roses and the crossflashers like S***. The prime reason for the flash was to use the better(?) write strategies of the
NEC 4551, now that NEC has made the code universally compatible accross the family line, that's a moot issue.

even if I get a G firmware, I'll crossflash to B before it's even
put in the box

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827101010
selling all week like hotcakes, but most interesting, preliminary reports are shipping
with BCDC firmware
mine late this afternoon!
-
your 4550 may be an adequate scanner, crosscheck the best burned disks you can when the benq arrives, and vary the scan speed of the
nec to find it's fastest but most accurate scan speed.
My nec 3550 correlates rather closely with my benq 1620 and friday
my new benq 1650 arrives for more crosschecking.
-
meritline has gone down the tubes! They take the order all the way thru and then call and email to sock you with high shipping!
get the benq 1650 from newegg
-
theoretically, 4551 is already the best
-
according to Dee,
The very nice people at NEC have at last made the strategies compatible from the ND-3520 - ND-4551. Only the memory offsets in the firmware differ. This meant i could create 6 firmwares for these drives in one day. Usually this task would take weeks.evidently the 4551 will be the new base firmware

"Chewey, on Capote ... you mean the special protection it gets transferred even to your backed-up dvd?"
just empty title cells?
dead giveaway, that and SONY!
but we don't discuss this kind of stuff here
-
At the 12x point, the BenQ (when scanning) picks up some huge PIE value - not really sure why.
For that reason, I've also done a scan with a LiteOn.
there's been some interesting discussion of relinking points and that phenomena over at cdfreaks
-
capote has special protection

meritline(usa)

The problem is that there?s only about half a dozen of us beta testers
that could be easily remedied, official beta testers and non-offical
-
I scanned a bunch of my 1 to 2 1/2 yr old dvd's, I reburned over a 100.
Poor media is probably crap to start with but gets worse quicker?
-
server glitch?, I saw that post and replied to another, mine disappeared also
-
for testing later, one guy over at cdfreaks has put away an extra scanner(the one he first tested with) to make sure he's consistent.
Now that's dedication.
-
I trust frank soy's testing over at cdfreaks, he monitored his G05's
degrading monthly, and promptly replaced, my one year old ones
scanned very poorly.
-
and the 4570 may turn out to be a decent scanner
-
new sony 820A is a Benq 1670
sony is going to sleep around a bit
dwg120a is a LITE-ON SHM-165P6S
-
also consider an LG drive if you don't want to scan
-
it's a real nightmare when cdfreaks doesn't have the answer
or gives the wrong one
640I can be a b or c made by liteon, benq or LG

i hate oem rebadges

Yeah, it looks like it might be an LG-based drive. The emergency eject hole is to the right.
is to the left, exactly in the middle or slightly to the right?
Because I would guess that the 640b is a LG drive based on HP's naming scheme and the firmware version (E152).
damn confusing, they used a liteon too
