What a difference the external makes!
BIG BIG difference, data transfer speed to mention one of many.
-
Same same, as the boss said, PgcEdit is the one to use for DL burns.
-
Lol, the only thing that burnt successfully were the CMC's, sorry treb, in house joke.
Is your usb connection 2? And only supported speeds of 2.4x max? I'd say your drive / firmware don't like any of those discs.
And no, there should be no difference between burning an image or data.

Disc Information:
Status: Complete
Erasable: No
Sessions: 1
Sectors: 2,278,714
Size: 4,666,806,272 bytes
Time: 506:24:64 (MM:SS:FF)
Supported Write Speeds: 3.1x
4,666,806,272 bytes converts to 4450.61MB or 4.34GB, nothing has realy "grown".
Just different reporting formats. Bytes / KB / MB / GB.

Thanks.

Don't feel bad about it, we all have to start somewhere.
And as far not seeing the disc, there was nothing to see.
-
I'm still not clear, is this a ROM drive only? As it can only READ discs, not burn them?
When you say you "put it back in", are you talking about a blank disc?
It just sounds like that you do not have burner, just a reader.
-
We need some more info, like your destination: what type of drive have you got? What are you trying to burn? Have ever burnt anything with this drive before? Etc. Etc.
-
Why is that boss?
Is it because CD's don't have that info in the media management area like DVD's? Or you just didn't cater for it as far CD's are concerned.
-
Ok boss, what is in his post that it tells you it's a Dell? Photodex?

Is there a way to connect a laptop to a PC for data transfer where you don't need to manually set the laptop as a "sever" basically, sitting there waiting for requests to send files?
You could just network it to your PC if it has a network card, depends how old this thing is.
And of course you need to hook it up to a monitor in order to see what's going on, (as per spinners post) most laptops will give you the second display by pressing Fnc + F2, but again it depends how old this thing is.

There is no doubt that when drive / firmware / media all "match up" everything works as it should.
Glad you sorted it out.

any chance of posting a log from each pc?
Why? Can't you just tell me what's wrong?
-
You're right about one thing - the source is DVD9. ImgBurn will not split an ISO for burning either. I do have a few suggestion though.
Compress your DVD so it fits on a DVD5 (Pretty easy)
Split your ISO with Vob******* and burn it to 2 disks (not for the faint of heart).
Buy a dual-layer burner - the most simple and elegant solution.
You might want to try a dedicated backup forum for a proper answer as legal contraints prohibit us from telling you how to accomplish what you wish to do. Yeah..... it sucks but that's life.
Unfortunatly this is the best we can do.

Oh dear.

As said above, your drive is what's called a combo drive, it is NOT capable of BURNING DVD's, it can only read them, it is ONLY a CD BURNER.
Thanks Kenadjian. I wasn't aware of that. Your info i highly appreciated. Thanks again.
You're welcome.

Ken

i usualy throw the large avi thru tmpgenc's dvdauthor to get vobs
Thanks mate, not having one (Camcorder) I wasn't aware of that, I wonder why so big? 13Gb for an hour of film is just huge.

One keeps hoping that the vast majority of people will wake up one day and decide, "We don't need these assholes. Humans survived for 200,000 years without 'digital entertainment.' Fuck it. We don't need this shit or the assholes that own it."
No argument from me on this point.

Bloody big camcorder volvo 18gig? That's fookin huge, well over twice the size of a full blown commercial DVD9.

Can we have the log from the failed burn?
-
Any chance you can try another one and post the log.
It is very difficult for us to try to work out what's going on without a log.
What did you copy it with to end up with an IMG file?
-
The whole thing looks up the shit.
Why don't you try a burn with ImgBurn and post the log, maybe then we can help you.
-
Great, we all know what the problem was now.
