    As there are no replies as yet, I'm more than willing to jump in and look like an idiot. That said, the first thing I'd blame would be iTunes. As Apple are notorious for not un-installing their software correctly or having it work at all on 64bit operating systems,

     

    EDIT: Try re-installing the latest iTunes before attempting to kill it as described below.

     

     

     

    I'd use Revo Uninstaller to get rid of iTunes and the mountains of crud that goes with it. If it works, you win. If not, you've lost nothing but a few minutes of your day and then have to re-install it. No big deal. You can find Revo Uninstaller here:

    It's free and contains no parasites or spyware and will remove all traces of iTunes if you choose to do so. Take it slow and easy. Watch what the program is doing and you'll be fine. After the crap is gone from your system, (and you've re-booted), Windows will be able to do what it's supposed to do, which, among other things, is to look after your hardware.

    Ok so I've succesfully burned 4 phillips Dual Layer discs with my LG and I bought a Pioneer just yesterday that couldn't burn phillips nor maxell is that making sense to you?

     

    To be blunt, if we tell you that your media is shit - then it's shit. We've been supporting people like you for years and damned near every fucking problem we see here is directly related to shit media like yours.

     

    There's a reason Lightning and the beta testers only use Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden media. It's not because we get freebies thrown at us by either of these companies. Although, given the amount of business we've sent their way in the last 6 or 7 years, it would certainly justify any kickbacks we got, which we don't. These two are the ONLY consistently good media you can get. Everything else is crap. End of story. The fact that you were able to burn your Phillips media in the first place isn't totally unexpected. Some work and some don't. Of your successes, being able to put them back into a DVD-ROM in a few weeks or months and actually being able to read it is a different story.

     

    At the end of the day, we don't have any problems. You do. Your magical appearance here suggests as much.

     

     

    You have two (2) options available to you.

     

     

    1. Learn from those who actually know what they're talking about.

     

    or

     

    2. Ignore the advice you receive here and continue having problems.

    E 09:00:56 You need Administrative privileges to use SPTI.

     

    I don't use Vista at all but try this:

     

    Open ImgBurn

     

    Select TOOLS then SETTINGS from the menu

     

    Select the I/O tab

     

    Select ElbyCDIO as the interface and hit OK

     

    Quit ImgBurn and start it again.

     

     

    See how you go.

    It's probable that the drive didn't want to be updated via the USB port. It's one of the downsides of having an external drive. If you have problems updating your firmware in the future, pull the drive out and attach it to an IDE or SATA channel. It'll be alot happier.

    Huh so what file system supports burning DL dvds with files over 4.7 GB? The whole reason I started messing with burning this stuff to disc is because of a new HDTV I got. It looks like my best bet to get my media from PC to TV without huge loss of quality may just be the Popcorn Hour device.

     

    Or you could use a PS3 in conjunction with PS3 Media Server running on your PC to stream from your harddrive. You're going to be disappointed if you think that wifi can cope with the bandwidth required. Even a wired 100Mbit network will struggle when streaming high-def content. It's just not fast enough. You'll also need some serious horsepower to transcode it in the first place.

    they all play fine and some date as far back as 3 years.

     

    Please read my comment again. I didn't ask if they played fine. I asked you to put some older disks into your PC drive and try to read them. Use this program to create an ISO file.

     

    has a blu ray drive. i don't know much but know enough that it has to be firmware or settings related.

     

    It is NOT settings related. This software (or any other burning software for that matter) has sweet fuck all to do with how good your disk burns. Just to clarify that statement...

    All this program does is tell the drive what to do. It's then up to your drive and your media to do what it's told. If either of those fail, the drive reports an error which is then displayed in the ImgBurn log. A write error, for example, could be caused by the laser in your drive being unable to focus on the media correctly due to the cheap chemicals in the dye used in the manufacturing process. RITEK media has been garbage for the last 5 years and will continue to be garbage, regardless of how great you think they are.

    but i really don't think that can be it. i know verbatim is regarded as better but i've burned on over a hundred of these discs in the last year.

     

    Why ask for help and then debate the answer? Of those hundred disks you've burned, go grab a couple from six months ago and see how many fail to read in your PC. We make don't make this stuff up for the hell of it. Thousands before you have asked this very question. Hundreds before you have debated the same obvious answer. You can either learn from what you are told and get some decent media or ignore the suggestion and continue getting failures. In either case, this software has nothing to do with your problem.

    G'day. No problems here as you can see from the log below. (Dragged and dropped). Just so we know, you've changed nothing with your PC except install the new version of ImgBurn?

    I did a search on Tevion discs. They don't seem particularly popular with your members, and I'm beginning to wonder if the latest batch of DVDs I bought may be the fault?

    They certainly wouldn't be helping you. CMC Magnetics media is garbage. Using Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden will fix your read error problem.

    Yep. It matters. A couple of things you might not know. Verbatim media made in India are crap. (Have a look on the packaging). Also, USB drives don't have a good track record. Your burner would be much happier attached to the IDE cable if possible. Whether they write properly or not pretty much depends on the mood they're in. Sometimes they work. Sometimes they don't. Lastly, to understand a bit of what's going on, all Imgburn does is talk to the drive. If something goes wrong, the drive will talk to ImgBurn and tell it (via your logfile) what the problem is. Your drive or your media could fail for any number of reasons. All ImgBurn does is display the failure... it doesn't cause it.
