Crap. Missed this one. Happy belated thingy, guys.

Happy b'day, mate. I'm going through a Gary Larson phase ATM.

i noticed in imgburn it says God, I'm bored. Might as well be listening to Genesis.

Special 'Thanks' to all the beta testers. I don't think we'll beat '49' any time soon
Does this mean I can delete the previous 526 versions of ImgBurn now?

No other burner complains of such a thing. It is exactly that issue that led me to this forum.
Let's clear this up, shall we?
1. Many of us have been supporting this program and it's predecessor for many years. As you would expect, we have a rough idea of where the blame for faults should be placed.
With that in mind:
2. The program used to burn your DVD has nothing to do with the quality of it. Nor can the program be responsible for read/write errors, semaphore errors, timeout errors, read/write rates or any of a multitude of errors often associated with this, or any other, software.
3. Your drive, your media and your hardware are solely responsible for these problems. e.g. Outdated firmware, dodgy drive controller or crap media. Burning software is just a vehicle to send commands to your drive for it to interpret and then obey. Nero happily reports a good burn even if it isn't because (as noted above) it doesn't verify by default.
If you want good burns then use good media like Verbatims (this forum ought to be paid for by Verbatim given the amount of business they get from here), use a good drive and update your firmware.

I 14:27:25 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: CMC MAG-D04-00) (Speeds: 2.4x)
Grab some Verbatim DL/+R media. CMC MAG will only cause you pain.

Also, make sure there's no disk in the drive before flashing.

To be honest, if you aren't sure about that stuff, you probably shouldn't be messing with it - or with Linux! Some things just aren't meant for people with limited PC knowledge.
So true, Linux may not be for you if having trouble with these basic PC skills. You may even want to do when I started out with Linux and find a spare machine to play around with until you can figure out the basics, that way if you screw something up you can start over.
Yep. Couldn't agree more. If you want to screw about with Linux, you could do worse than Freespire which is the freely downloadable version of Linspire. It's probably the easiest to configure and use.

See the pink bit at the top of the page asking for a logfile?

I 14:08:21 Image File: F:\My Downloads\Movies\Hitman.R5.LINE.DVDR-DREAMLiGHT\dl-hitman\dl-hitman.img
Downloading movies? Tsk. Tsk.
The fact that your PC plays them just fine (even with no audio - which means you're missing a codec), leads me to believe that the problem is with the source file. Most likely an incompatibility with your player (PAL/NTSC). Hard to tell when we don't know where in the world you are.
FWIW, there's nothing wrong with the above burn...... and you still have a DMA problem.

All right, updated firmware, checked dma and turned on verify, same result. I haven't gotten new discs yet but I've tried 4 times with no luck
I 11:20:42 Source Media Type: DVD+R (Book Type: DVD+R) (Disc ID: PRODISC-R05-01) (Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x)
Your problems are unlikely to improve while you use this media. Honestly, it's crap. I don't care that you've used them in the past and they seem OK. If they were any good, we'd use them ourselves. The fact that all of the regulars here don't use Prodisc should tell you something. Eliminate the known problem (in this case your media) and watch your problems dissapear. You *need* better quality media. You can't use good software with a good drive and crap media and expect good results. Put it this way, you can't make strawberry jam out of pigshit. It doesn't matter how many strawberries you add, it's still going to taste like shit.

Previously, I've been a huge fan of the Pioneer drives having owned a 105, 106 and 2x109s. Never had a problem with them. These fcuking 112s, 114s and 115s aren't in the same league. I'll never buy another one. FWIW, errors displayed by ImgBurn are always hardware errors - drives or media. If ImgBurn sits there like a stale bottle of piss and not doing anything, it'll be waiting for an "OK" or something from the drive. Write errors and read errors are "always" a hardware issue.
-
The pioneer 112 is a bit of a dog. I have 2 of the things and one works great. The other refuses to burn CDs. There's not much ImgBurn can do with a crap drive.

I 09:28:02 Source File: D:\program files\Bitcomet\torrent downloads\Wii - Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz [NTSC] [www.torrentspain.com].iso
You know, of course, that piracy is frowned upon here.
I 09:28:02 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: CMC MAG. AF1) (Speeds: 1x, 2x, 4x)Get yourself some decent media as these are rubbish and the likely cause of your problems. Only use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm currently in Australia and have just picked up a spool of 50 Verbatim DVD-Rs. Not too hard to find decent media, but harder than the UK...
To expand on the DVD storage - I have one of those cases, but have always been worried that if you are constantly slipping the discs in and out of the pockets that they could get damaged.
Where in Australia? I buy my Verbs from Mr CDR in Brisbane.

Got your logfile handy?

I have been impressed with the expertise in this forum so wondering if i could get your help on selecting freeware security software, ie antivirus, antispyware, antimalware, firewall, in the proper combination so they don't conflict.
I am running Win2000.
Your help will be appreciated.
Mozilla Firefox using the NoScript add-on. I don't surf without it...

The layer break is really only associated with movie DVDs. It doesn't affect a normal data DVD. And yes, Verbatim disks will make life alot better.
EDIT: Update your firmware. Newest version is BCIC - ftp://ftp.benq-eu.com/dvd-rw/firmware/dw1650/dw1650_bcic.zip
-
1. Verbatims are fine for DVD5. (I use them myself).
2. In a CD/DVD case?
-
ImgBurn is not a ripper and this forum does not discuss how to bypass copy protection. Period.

I 02:27:59 [3:1:0] DVD+RW RW5240 1.11 (H:) (ATA)
Your firmware is really old. Update to the latest version from the link below and then reboot before trying again.

All of the above Taiyo Yuden media look pretty good and shouldn't give you any problems. While you're here, if you want to buy dual-layer media (DVD +/-R), go for the Verbatim DVD+R/DL only as DVD-R/DL (all brands) has some problems.
Something a little different
