It's the hp CDDVDW TS-L633N that should be added to the Samsung Drive OEM list, if it supports Samsung commands of course.

Formatting a BD-RE is a two part process: first ImgBurn sends the 'format disc' command and then waits for the burner to say it's finished, so this part is handled entirely by the burner; after that, ImgBurn writes zeroes to the whole disc to make sure all the sectors are writeable and left empty. You only need to full format/erase a BD-RE just once, or when you want to change the 'with spare areas' or 'without spare areas' format of the disc. After that you can just overwrite the disc, not even quick erase is needed (for future reference this is also true for DVD+RW and DVD-RAM media). As for the failed burns it means the drive has poor support for those discs, and the failed verifies confirm this by the difficulty of reading those burned discs. A firmware update could add better support for them and newer media, so I think it's worth e-mailing/calling Sony and asking for newer firmwares (I've looked around and didn't find any). In the future, if you don't need a slim drive for portability/space/weight reasons, you can buy a normal-sized burner and mount it in an external enclosure: some of them even have multiple external interfaces (USB 3.0 / eSATA / Thunderbolt) and coolers to keep temperature controlled

The burn on your Samsung SN-S083N burner was booktyped to DVD-ROM just fine, as it shows at the beginning of the Verify stage. As for the HP OEM drive (which is Samsung too) it doesn't show the booktype in the log since you didn't verify the disc. You can check manually by inserting the disc with ImgBurn in Read mode ('Create image file from disc') and looking at the media information text under "Physical Format (Last Recorded)". Use the Change BookType feature to see if your HP OEM drive supports the Samsung booktyping commands: if it does then click the Advanced buttom, select Samsung in the Drive OEM list and add your burner's name to the list, so that ImgBurn automatically sends the booktype commands when burning.

'Power Calibration Area Error' usually happen when the drive doesn't like the media you're using. What if you enable Test Mode before burning, does it also fail? Anyway, you could try the other write speeds (1x / 2x / 8x) or you could try with other brands of media (we know from experience Verbatim VIctor JVC work better with most burners).

Please post the log from that burn.

Have you tried burning faster? At 4x for example. If that still doesn't work then you'll need to try with other brands of DVD+R DL media until you find one that works for you.

When the burner has problems properly recognising the disc it has just burned it's a sign that the burn quality may not be that good. Try burning at 4x, 6x or 8x and you could end up with better quality burns. Also, what's the brand of the media you're using?

Don't forget to leave the Verify setting enabled, as that ensures the disc is readable

Please post the log from that burn (you can find previous logs in ImgBurn's Help menu).

Use something like BeyondCompare to compare the files on the disc with their source files on your HDD.

Are you using the installer from here? -> http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads It should uninstall correctly with the x64 installer. Are you running in elevated/administrador mode?

The firmwares on FirmwareHQ.com are all originals from their respective manufacturers, so there are no modified firmwares there. Aside from power loss or disconnecting the burner while updating I think it'll update just fine. As for supporting DVD+R DL burns up to 4x I think that's for 2.4x blanks, which were common at the time that burner was current. The burn process depends on the burner/firmware/media combination, so if you don't want to update the firmware, your other options are trying to get 2.4x media (quite rare) or a new burner.

Your burner probably doesn't support the media you're using. There's a firmware update that may add basic support for the 8x Verbatim DVD+R DL blanks you're using.

ImgBurn only deals with optical drives/discs.

Those are not rewritable discs, so trying to erase them will fail everytime. With ImgBurn in Write mode, insert a brand new blank disc in the drive, and if it says 'Disc Not Empty' please copy all the media information text shown on the right of ImgBurn's window.

Semaphore timeout errors usually are due to incompatibility between your system's USB chipset and the external drive's/enclosure's USB chipset. If you search this forum you'll find some things you could try in order to fix it, like using another USB cable, making sure Windows has all the updates and your system's drivers are all the latest version, and others. Any way you could connect that drive internally to the computer? Or maybe using eSATA / Firewire / other interface?

Since you're using DVD-R media, enable Test Mode before burning and you won't waste a disc if it fails again with the same problem.

From your log it seems your burner doesn't properly support the discs you're using. Have you tried burning at 2x? Try with other brands of BD-R media too, like Verbatim.

Samsung and LG still make IDE burners, so you could get one of them if you want to keep using IDE, which Windows 7 does support. From your log it seems your burner should be cleaned with a lens cleaning disc, or manually by taking the drive apart, if you're feeling adventurous
