its more than likely the discs that are the problem . read this page here http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm , take a look at 3rd class media, here you will find leaddata - your discs. read the description of 3rd class media

did you have anydvd turned off? maybe you can cross flash the drive to the benq 1640 it really is? try asking at cdfreaks.com

there is no media that we can burn to that is ptp ptp discs are pressed , like your original , only manufacturers can press these. i have no idea if there are plans to release ptp burnable media , but if it becomes available , you can be sure support will be added

you can't get discs to burn to, so no is the answer here. all dual layer media is otp

discs are not the best, maybe some have worked but these are really going to cause you problems, as already suggested use better discs check the scans here http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=654 your firmware should be on A106 http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1973 also choosing 1x or 2x speed is not supported by the drive
