  1. but you dont have to create an iso and then burn it...you can burn the files directly to the dvd in build mode
  2. I would like to suggest some features, that I think would be useful. First Cue/bin support, I'm missing that very often (possibly I'm not the only one). I miss multi session support the most. Is it possible that it will be implemented in the near future? And the possibility to create folders in build mode would be nice.
  3. if i understand it right i could create two folder called video_ts and put the different files in the folders and burn it..... but are the dvd players going to get confused about what folder to play? because they going to have the same name?(i am not sure if i even can have two same named folders) please
  4. the newest firmware for your PIO is 1.29 updating your firmware is always an excellent starting point when trying to resolve problems so is using top notch media ,here we've seen enough problems with Ritek and Memorex branded media to fill a book .If you want to look at the scans go to that forum the only discs (dual layer ) that show consistency are the Verbs testing has proved that and all others are hit and miss you may get however many to write fine and an equal number to fail with other media its just the way it is. Since I began using IMGburn I haven't had a coaster and I use Verbatim both + and - and Taiyo Yuden +R with an NEC 3500 and burn everything at 6X its what works for me and has become automatic with everything verifying 100% . if you can identify a bug in the software then Lightning will be interested to know what it is and you can be sure it will be fixed pronto 1 other thing what program did you create the ISO with
  5. Hi - I am new to burning discs but have read your guides, which is how I have managed to actually burn a disc, but it is only recognised by my PC and not my standalone dvd player. I also read your FAQs and forum, and have made a few changes and retried with the info I had found there. I started trying to burn to Panasonic DVD+R's but turned them into a great set of coasters, so changed to Verbatum DVD+RW to solve the prob. Basically I have created a VIDEO_TS file containing my .IFO and .VOB files. I have then used ImgBurn to create an .ISO file in the BUILD mode, and then used the WRITE mode to burn it to disc. I have now got this far with the +RW's but the +R is a non starter. However, my problem (after this longwinded ramble) is that once I stick the disc in my DVD player it just hums and then says 'no disc'. What have I done wrong or is it just that my DVD player (SONY DVP-S525D) is to old to realise that homemade discs could ever become a reality. BElow is the log created the last time I tried, this starts from building the .ISO through to burning. Do you need any other info...??? Disc info ? 6. At present, you can't create additional folders within the build process - don't know if it's on LUK!'s to do list. You would presently need to already have the "website" files inside a folder named as such and the "ftp" files similarly inside an "ftp folder. i.e. W:\Website\*.* X:\FTP\*.* Then instead of adding the files, you add the folders. This will of course add all the files within these folders which may or maynot be an issue for you. If rearranging your files as such permanently is not an option, then i guess you could have the Website & FTP directories setup and within the batch file move the necessary files to the directories, build and burn, then move them back out to their original locations (or copy them there, and delete afterwards, leaving originals safely in their normal locations).
  7. Personally, I think it's a slippery slope. I, for one, can't stand it when anyone smokes. I don't want anyone smoking near me. But, guess what? There's no such thing as a non-smoking area. When someone smokes, everyone is, unless they do it outside. The irony is smokers KNOW it's annoying because they annoy themselves and each other. But, they're hooked and need their fix. So, what they basically say is to Hell with everyone else. As far as second hand smoke goes, it's a gray area, like most things. There is evidence to support that it causes damage just as much as there's not enough evidence to support the opposite claims that it kills you. But, how CAN it be healthy? If we were meant to breathe in smoke, we'd have been created with methane filters. And, it's easy to create tobacco/nicotine dispersion systems. BUT, the bottom line is that would eat into the profits, when it's far easier to just wrap it up in paper derivatives and ignite it. So, personally, I'm all for smoking bans. BUT, legally, how can I really support it? I believe people should have the right to smoke if they want to, but, what about those of us who don't like it? The smokers won't congregate into sealed rooms or outside, and businesses won't install sealed rooms and filter systems because it eats into the profits. The best thing said here, though, was the comment that people SHOULD be smart enough to NOT smoke in front of the kids. As I said, it's nowhere near healthy, so, why do it in that instance?
  8. Vso-software's CopytoDVD (an excellent example of non-bloatware). Vso-Software site (One warning: you have to go into settings and disable multi-session dvd writing on the Multi-Session tab; for some reason it's enabled by default...) Nero 7 (an excellent example of bloatware). But it can burn so many thing so many different ways that even if some of its apps no longer work as well as they used to, it's still very, very necessary. Intervideo's DVDCopy 5 (a little basic for this crowd, but it's an excellent coverter; I converted several WMV clips into an excellent looking DVD-Video that played on my set-top with no problems. Unfortunately, it's getting bloatier; they've added a virtual drive module amongst other things...) For those with Plextor drives, Plextools is an excellent package (tho' be careful with v. 2.35; for the first time ever, Plextools hashed my C: drive & I had to reinstall from backup). It has the killer ability to burn CDR with up to 298MB more, tho' I've never been able to burn more than 224MB, than the CDR standard. The disks work in my PC drives, as well as my set-top DVD drives and my Sony MP3 Discman. It also supports CD-Text burning and as well as a suite of scanning tools. For Music CDs, imo, there's really only ONE choice Easy CDDA Extractor web site It's been rightly called "the Swiss Army Knife of Digital Audio." The only formats it lacks are rare or weird ones like TTA or Shorten (which it did, at one point, support). There are two versions, the "free" and the payware. The price, for what you get, is quite reasonable, especially when you're as much of an audiophile as I am. It rips CDDAs (this is COMPLETELY legal in the US). It burns CDDAs flawlessly (the scans are excellent). It converts, quickly, from one format to another. And it now burns CD-ROMs so that one can create MP3 or WMA (or whatever you want) discs. In fact after three years of use I came across, a few days ago, the first disc that it couldn't properly rip but that another app could (dmcAudio Power Input, part of the dbAMP Converter package; this package supports CD-Text which, for example, Winamp does not, as well as being able to rip and burn Apple's Lossless format). And, of course, ImgBurn where would I be without that??!?! >>>Pls note that NONE of these apps violate the DMCA.<<<
  9. you not got a .dvd file to go with ISO you may get away with setting layer break manually to 1913760 in imgburn or create a new text document then paste this in LayerBreak=1913760 name_of_your_iso_here.iso then goto file and Save As where it asks for filename type this including speech marks also make sure you type the name of the ISO in your case cod3 (in the same case as ISO filename case) "cod3.dvd" then click on save you should now have something you could right click on and choose burn with imgburn. also the duration time of burn should be 41.51 or 42.51 or there abouts @2.4, though i can see 2.5 max in your log, so maybe ignore what i typed about duration, however check to see if there is a newer firmware for your nec.
  10. Hi! I like imgburn but I am missing some features in build mode. I use build mode only for burning directly to cd. It would be better if it were possible to create folders in build mode. And I'm missing multisession support. If these were implemented I would hardly use anithing else at all. (Except for audio cd-s)
  11. I've been using DVDShrink to back up my DVDs to DVD5s for a long time. Now, I want to create DL DVDs that have the VIDEO_TS files from DVDShrink + other data files. What I would like to do is to tell DVDShrink to create the VIDEO_TS files at a total size to fit on one layer so that I do not have to worry about layer breaks. Then, other data files would fit on the 2nd layer. (All of my standalone DVD players play discs like this with no problem.) So, my question (at long last) is: What size should I specify in DVDShrink so that all of its output files will fit on one layer when burning a DL disc with IMGBurn? Any help is appreciated!
  12. There is a read function in ImgBurn for non protected discs, this allows you to create an .iso, I don't know if it's what you require for your purposes tho.
  13. Sorry but how do I go about creating a VIDEO_TS file. Do I still create it using DVDStyler? I really am a novice at this.
  14. I'm not sure that's what Drakkenson meant. If it was, my apologies... I'd have just recommended DAEMON Tools. Mount your ISO in the DT virtual drive and view it as you would do any normal CD / DVD via explorer. On the other hand, if I understood the initial post correctly, Drakkenson wants to add folders to the 'File' mode from all over the place (multiple drives etc) and then have ImgBurn create a kind of root folder in 1 single place on the hdd with all those random files combined. i.e. take C:\Folder1 and D:\Folder2, then output C:\Root\Folder1 and C:\Root\Folder2. It just seems like a bit of a tidy up exercise to me!
  15. Please can you post a copy of the log or partial log that you create in ImgBurn. We need a bit more info........ Thanks
  16. Yes, I'm a newbie to ImgBurn, but certainly not a newbie to burning on to recordable media. My hardware hasn't changed in years. My custom built XP box is all aluminum with liquid cooling, alot of DDR3200 RAM, an overclocked P4 w/HT Canterwood CPU, and a pair of LG GSA-4160B Super Multi DVDRAM drives which will burn onto anything short of HD DVD's. Until now I haven't tried burning onto Dual Layer discs because they were so damned expensive! They've come down in price now, as I knew they would... even more drastically lately with the advent of HD DVD media. So I took the plunge and bought a spindle of Sony DVD+R DL discs and went to load up Nero to burn a couple of full disc rips I pulled so that I can free up some drive space. Lo and behold, Nero didn't want to co-operate! Kept seeing my blank media as a CD-R and was flashing a message saying something to the effect of 'Hey, DOPEY! You can't burn over 7 gig's of video onto a 650MB CD-R!' *Great, now what do I do?* I briefly entertained going out and buying Nero 7, but after reading up on it and Nero in general, I found out that Nero isn't what one would call 'Dual Layer Friendly'. During my readings I saw a few folks mention ImgBurn2 as being a 'Cure For All Your Burning Ills'... and it's free?? I figured this was a bunch of propaganda, but decided to download the application and try it out. A quick read of the guide showing how to use ImgBurn to create a DL DVD with .IFO, .VOB and .BUP files and within minutes I'm burning my first DVD DL disc. It's still going right now... just verifying the job. Once it's done I'm going to pop that disc in my TV's player and see what the end results are. So long as the proof is in the pudding, not only will I be donating some $$ but I'm also going to spread the word about how great this application really is! Great job to the creator! I hope everyone who uses this application does the right thing and shows their gratitude! Especially since Nero goes for some $50 to $70 off the shelf and leaves you hanging when you can't do what you should be able to do with it!
  17. the reason i ask is because i had the exact same problem, except my image sectors are a tad different. When i told me the image was too large for the disk i just assumed it would create two DVDs? Shows how much i know.
  18. I have seen this error so many times I cannot count - I may as well ask, is this something to worry about or can I just ignore it, or, is there an easy fix for it? I get this error when I use DVD-Shrink to create a full-sized image. My version of Shrink is 3.2.0.15 and it says "English Version" - It is not the "New Version" with the patch that is supposed to call up IMGBURN rather than DVD Decrypter for burning. That version is neutered - Is has all of the decryption gear cut out of it like a cat that has been... De... Clawed. There is also another version of Shrink floating around that is not supposed to have the neutering in effect, but I tried that one and it always fails, crashes: Because of a DEP error (Data Execution Prevention) that I cannot call up an exclusion for. However, this is not about Shrink - What I want to know, is how serious is this error? I have burned several DVDs where this error has popped up like a weasel- The APPEAR to run properly in my DVD player, but there is a noticeable gap during the layer break. The image kind of stops and jerks for a second. I really do prefer the original DVD Shrink to the versions that have been altered. So, my question is: Is the use of the unaltered Shrink fouling me up? So I actually need to be using the version of Shrink that has been chopped up and has had it's heart and liver removed? Or, is there a way I can take these ISO files and process them so that the error goes away? Is there an easy way to deal with it? Or, best yet: has this topic been discussed elsewhere, where I can read the discussion and see what people have done about it? OK, whoever can answer this, TIA. BTW, Hi BluTach, I promise to behave in here.
  19. I am trying to create an iso image from a downloaded file. The iso file is 699MB but the image that is created is nearly twice that size and hence will not burn onto a CD. Can anyone help me with this admittedly newb issue? Thanks, Matt
  20. Please help!! I've created an iso file through another program. The FIRST time I used IMG to burn a DVD it worked fine!!! Then I tried to burn more DVD's. The burn process goes off without a hitch-I can play the DVD on any computer but not on my television & DVD set. I've tried using DVD +R and DVD -R with no difference. I read on the board where one person tried to change the book type to DVD Rom and it worked perfectly. I tried to do that on the Samsung and saw no DVDROM listed. I need help. This iso show has taken me over 2 months to create as a Christmas gift. I don't want it as a CD video but as a DVD. I feel fortunate the first one worked well, but after previewing it, I made a few minor changes. So I redid a new ISO file and tried to copy to DVD -several times now with no success. (I know the info is on the disc-just can't play it on the living room DVD.) Please HELP!!!!!! Also, can I recopy over these discs or must I throw them out? Please help!!!
  21. Alright, here's my problem. I've downloaded a few movies and unless I download it as an .iso file, it won't work after I burn it. I've followed the guide you guys provided, and I've converted the vob, ifo, and bup files to an iso, but after I create and burn it, it will not work. Anyone have any ideas of what I might be doing wrong?
  22. About adjusting the virtual memory. What was, supposedly, the amount of RAM you can have where they say you can turn off virtual memory, for the most part? Or make a really small file. I forget, but, there's a supposed listed amount of RAM where if you have you, you can effectively disable virtual memory. Because, if you have 4 GB, who wants to create a 6 GB swapfile if they can avoid it. For instance, back when I had just the 1 GB, my VM file was 3 GB.
  23. It's probably not the free disc space. Those listings for DVD burning are the maximum, worst case scenario. Meaning, if you were making a full DVD+R DL, what it would first do, maybe, is copy all ~9 GB of the target discs's data to the program's temporary directory. Then, it would create the image from those files, effectively, doubling the space to, roughly, ~18 GB, 2 x 9. And, if you didn't have the required free space in a case like this, the burner application wouldn't functioning. Meaning, it would tell you it can't operate due to lack of necessary free space. Unless it's terribly written, which is typical HP.
  24. You raise a good question with that last one. I was staggered that they offered 1GB for free. I was only hoping for 50MB like Yoxio, and would have settled for 10MB for free. But, what the hell, it's free. And they're a commerical org with ads. I donated to yoxio to keep it going. Apparently enough people didn't so it went bye-bye. I know that Cox (my broadband ISP) gives me 10MB of space for web pages. But, at this point, I don't intend to put up a web page (tho' in the near future I'm probably going to start my own political blog-type thing, but it seems easier to use one the established web sites that do that than create my own page; after all 10MBs is not a heullva lot for a webpage!). And, frankly, I have no idea how to do it. And I don't know if it can even be used for hosting images for posting on chatboards and the like.

    Need Help and Advice

Hello all, I was curious If someone here would be kind enough to help me find some good programs for making DVDs. What I am wanting is something that I can make menus with and something where I can create Chapter Stops. I am at best a newbie to all this, so I am looking for something not too complicated, Any help is very much appreciated.
