jody Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I'm really having a hard time here. I have a Windows 7 ISO that I want to make into a bootable DVD. It seems to work until I try to boot to the DVD and then I get PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT. When I press a key, it reboots and tries to boot to the DVD and I get the same message. Here is my log file and I've attached the windows 7 content. Any ideas would be soooo appreciated. thank you in advance. I 18:23:51 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Assuming the ISO was made correctly in the first place, there shouldn't be an issue with booting that. Look for Bios updates for your computer and make sure you've got the boot priority set correctly. If there's a key you can press to bring up a boot menu and pick the optical drive directly, even better!
jody Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 Thank you so much for the reply. I think that I am going to assume at this point that I did not create the ISO correctly as it was the first time I've ever tried to create an ISO and the directions I followed were somewhat complicated and I just tried writing the ISO to a DVD on a different computer and got the same result. It appears that I can use ImgBurn to create the ISO from the unpacked files that I got from Microsoft so I will try that. Why I couldn't just download the ISO directly when I bought the new OS I don't know but that sure would have been a ton easier. Thank you again! Jody
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 What instructions did you follow to create the image in the first place? It seems odd that MS would provide the OS in non ISO format. ISO is easier for everyone!

ISO is easier for everyone! I totally agree. ISO would be so much easier! For some odd reason it came in two files that had to be extracted into a lot of files and then turned into an ISO. This is a link to the directions I followed. http://brainstormtech.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2009/10/24/windows-7-student-upgrade-hell/ I'll try again tonight.
mmalves Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 What are the filenames of the two files you've downloaded from Micro$oft?
jeff_nz Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 (edited) I 18:34:44 Source File File System(s): ISO9660 (Bootable), UDF (1.50) I don't know if this has anything to do with your problem but the official Win 7 (RC) ISO I've seen and an upgrade DVD both use UDF revision 1.02 (I'm referring to 32 bit only, haven't seen a 64 bit one to compare if it's the same). . jody Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 I'm remembering they were box files but I don't see them anymore. I do see the expanded setup folder though. Jeff, thank you, except I have no idea what you are talking about. Sigh... this shouldn't be rocket science.
jeff_nz Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Sorry if I caused any confusion... UDF is the file system used on the DVD, and there are several versions of it to choose from (revisions), but since no-one else has commented on it then it's probably not a factor in your case. Let us know how it goes if you do try ImgBurn to create the ISO, as you said above (I guess you saw the guide for it already).
jody Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 No problem Jeff. You can call me IT-lite. I redownloaded the entire set up last night. I wonder if I am making this too complicated because the expanded setup has the same files as the DVD after I burned it. Maybe all I really need to do is burn the expanded setup on a DVD. I'll try that tonight. I did try creating the ISO but need to spend more time reading the guides so I have some idea of what I'm doing here. Thank you very very very very much!
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 You never did answer mmalves question in post #6 Just burning the expanded setup folder won't work. You still need to tell ImgBurn to make it bootable. The guide I wrote tells you exactly how to do it all. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=11194
jody Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 I'm sorry. The files were setup1.box and setup2.box I think. I can't remember exactly and the laptop is at home. Thank you for the link. I will read it and do it and see what happens. It would help if I had more time to devote to this.
