Is Copying PAL Different than Copying NTSC?

Hallelujah

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of getting a PAL DVD-R that I want to copy for my friend. Is the process different than copying NTSC? Would I have to change any settings or would the program recognize a PAL DVD-R automatically and just burn to the same format?

I'd try it myself, but this will be the first PAL media I personally would have ever got my hands on.

Thanks for your time, it's much appreciated.

hold on....

you have a PAL DVD MOVIE that you want to copy

abd that Copy will be played in a NTSC DVD Player or PAL DVD Player?

I'm just going to take the easy route and hook up my computer to my TV to play the PAL material. That should work, no?

yes it'll work!

but if you want to play a PAL DVD MOVIE on a NTSC DVD PLAYER,

theres 2 choices:

#1

Use a Video Converter to do a PAL 2 NTSC conversion....

but you'll lose extra material and menus....

you can use ConvertXtoDVD for that

#2

there's a patch method,

where you change the disc information

(which designates a disc PAL or NTSC) but do not touch the video at all.

This can trick several players that would otherwise not play the disc.

This involves IFOEDIT,

Thanks, I might even try that method at some point if I get sick of hooking the computer up to the TV.

Does anyone know if the PAL/Region 2 process differs from the R1 DVD copying? Do I have to change any settings or does it recognize PAL automatically and just burn the exact disc?

ImgBurn just burns as-is, it doesn't care if your DVD Video files are NTSC or PAL.

Cheers, that's great to hear. Your program is a God-send!

In another issue, my friend has had a problem using the program on his new computer with a Pioneer DVD Drive. Could anyone help him out? The log is as follows and he's using Sony DVD-R media.

I 17:54:49 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: SONY16D1) (Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x)

I 17:54:49 Write Speed: MAX

Tell him to burn at 6x or 4x to see how it turns out. If that doesn't work then he should try with Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blanks.

It worked! And he thanks you very much! He'd never burned a disc on his new computer, so he was kind of freaking out.

I usually use Verbatim myself and they've been good to me, but not as good as Maxell. Fuji, on the other hand, I bought two spindles and 1/2 of them were scratched all to hell. It was a joke, but luckily I got them mega cheap.

Funny enough, I just tried the IFOEdit method last night. It didn't work for me. The VOB output would not load in DVDShrink and when I made an actual disc out of it with ImgBurn, the screen only displayed a solid black screen.

My method is to use Nero Vision in Nero. You can get a 30 day trial of it. Yes, believe it or not, I actually found a use for Nero's software.

I have ConvertXToDVD but never knew it could do that. I'll have to give it a throw and see if it works better than my method of restoring down my factory default partition so I can keep installing the 30 day trial of Nero whenever I need to.
