Rastus2
The error message dialog shows imgburn.exe name on its caption, so I think this component may help LUK! on tracing that kind of mysterious errors: http://www.eurekalog.com/index.php Best regards, bootsector Thanks but that program is way too deep for me and besides I need other programs to help it run and I don't know how to use those other programs,,,, Hence I don't have them. I will try the one from MSoftiee and get back with you, Rastus
Rastus2
Yes, and you should be getting BSODs/spontaneous restarts etc if your memory is duff. How doers it go in safe mode? Have you done a virus/spyware scan lately? Regards I downloade and ran the MS WMIDIAG-V1.10_XP. I launched and shut down ImgBurn. The log is way over my head, but it looks like I have alot of things missing? I inclosed the log.txt WMIDIAG_V1.10_XP__.CLI.SP2.32_MULTIMEDIA_2006.10.10_00.19.56.LOG
LIGHTNING UK!
bootsector, ImgBurn is already run using codeguard for a large portion of the beta stage. If there were memory errors to catch, it would find them. ....and not only do I test on XP and 2003, I test on all OS's dating back to 95! Never once have I had an error on closedown like that. Rastus2
Did you edit something out Rastus2 ? No, what I did was run Windbg and included the file as an attachment, it was there, but now I see the file is gone. I'll attach it again, so sorrry. well, I add the file, then when I click Add this attachment, the screen blips, then it's gone. I need to check file length. back in a minute. 2kb, so length is okay. it's a *.wew file. Why won't it stick? LIGHTNING UK!
Ok so you open windbg yeah? Then File -> Open Executable. Browse to + open ImgBurn.exe Click 'Debug' -> 'Go' so it actually loads up. Then when you close ImgBurn down, it should crash as you say it does and hopefully write the error into the debugger window. Just copy + paste what it says / get a screenshot or something. EDIT: Oh, you might also want to click 'File' -> 'Symbol File Path' and enter the following: srv*C:\Windows\Symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols then click ok. That'll mean the stack trace should show nice names for the functions being called.

LIGHTNING UK!
Ok, you're loading 'ImgTool Burn' there, not ImgBurn. They're different programs too!

I need to slow down, trying to do five things at once ,,,, here is what I think you want. 10_11_06_ImgBurn.TXT
LIGHTNING UK!
Ok that says it's a first time exception, so what if you click 'debug' -> 'go' again? When it shows that stuff in the windbg window, has the error popped up properly in the messagebox like it did in the original screenshot?

LIGHTNING UK!
Sorry to be a pain but can I just double check that the logs you're posting a from when you've opened AND THEN closed imgburn whilst it's running in windbg? WinDbg mentions the address 0040180a in the log, but your screenshot shows a very different address.

I launch WinDbg, then point it to ImgBurn.exe, then launch ImgBurn, click "go" in WinDbg, then close ImgBurn. Is this the correct procedure? p.s. I am having a problem closing my computor. I have at least 11 winframe faults or winpageplacement faults. SO hang loose till I sort out these errors. I haven't loaded anything new, just Win updates, which concerns this Media Center software. It downloads and records T.V. programs pretty much like a TiVo. Edited October 12, 2006 by Rastus2

I'm sure thats where my shut down problems came from. All is well EXCEPT ImgBurn 2.1.0.0 It stiil faults when I shut it down. Should I uninstall it and go back one version? LIGHTNING UK!
You're fine to install all the windows updates, I do and I know I'm not getting shutdown errors! I really can't reproduce this issue you're having and I've tried it on every OS Microsoft has released, starting with Windows 95. Sorry but I'm at a total loss as to why it's dying on your PC. You can go back a version, sure, but it might mean you're stuck with it forever!
JasonFriday13
LUK, maybe you could compare the exit code of the two versions (2.0.0.0 and 2.1.0.0) and see if you made any changes. Doh, just remembered, you added the /NOSAVESETTINGS switch to ImgBurn. Maybe there is a problem there. Sorry, I'm just thinking out loud.

LIGHTNING UK!
JasonFriday13, If it was a real (and obvious) glitch in my code, SOMEONE else would be able to reproduce it too! I, nor any of the beta team, can do that. I've got every debug option possible enable and I'm running codeguard which hooks into all the memory allocation calls and keeps track of memory accesses etc. I'm not getting a single problem come back from it. dontasciime
As someone else already mentioned your best bet would be to backup anything you need, check all your cables, clean your computer out whilst your in there, format your drive, reinstall xp or whatever op your using. First thing then make sure you install the chipset drivers supplied on your motherboard disc, better option would be to download the latest drivers from your board's manufacturer though. There is also a chance if your system is hanging at certain tasks involved with ide access, that a cable is faulty, there is a particular issue with your bios on how ide or rather drives are detected, that one of your atapi devices is faulty and slowing down or stopping things closing, if it were an external writer and say you have creative xfi fatal card that can hang your computer at shutdown. Lots of things, so simplest would be for you to start with a clean system, If imgburn then hangs again, then its either a bug in the driver your using, the hardware is faulty or your board/cables etc. You would then have to try another dvd writer. Have you tried to remove the controller in device manager and then letting windows pickup controller again on reboot ? The only program this is still having an issue is ImgBur,. I will remove the controller and try again. I have included another snapshot of the system. DVD43. in not on auto run. I have to click an icon to run it, if I every do. I haven't opened it in 6 months and should delete it it because I no longer have a need for it Test_Results_10_13_06.txt
dontasciime
Operating systems are best reinstalled about every 4-6 months. I see you have Patin Couffin engine installed. In my useage fo this i have known it to cause the kinda of issues your getting, especially if when it installed, there was no restart, or some kind of glitch when you rebooted after installing it. Never used dvd43, though i think it was mentioned not to even install with the older version of imgburn IE dvdd. I am almost certain you won't get any issue's with imgburn on a clean install. I did a search of all drives looking for the Patin Couffin Engine. It came up empty. Belarc Advisor lists a Patin Couffin Engine in the devices, but I am unable to locate it. At this point, I un-installed the program "DVD43".
