Hi Forum,

I burned an audio cd from mp3 files on a windows xp pro system with ImgBurn. However, most of the audio tracks on the cd sound very distorted.

I did some forum search on this issue. What I've understood so far is this:

* ImgBurn doesn't do any decoding, but leaves this to DirectShow, a part of windows.

* distortions like this are usually caused by faulty filters applied by DirectShow

However, in the audio CD guide on this forum, LightningUK comments:

[Support for MP3, PCM, WAV and WMA should be built into Windows - at least it is on XP / Vista / 7.]

I've downloaded GraphEdit to check out which filters are used. It shows the following:

mp3-file --> MPEG-I stream splitter --> MPEG-layer3 decoder --> default direct sound device.

Clicking on properties doesn't give me anything than "the requested properties page could not be displayed", except for the MPEG-layer3 decoder. This is the version 1.6 build 51 transform filter for microsoft DirectShow, which seems pretty standard, at least to my newbie views.

So what could be wrong here? It seems to be the recommended filter. Any other possible causes?

Yes, the mp3 files sound normal when playing them.

Please check the filters within ImgBurn itself - just in case the directshow graph is slightly different.

Right click one of the problem MP3 files once you've added it to the 'Create CUE File' window and you should see a directshow filter option in the context menu that pops up.

Does the disc burn and verify ok? Does it sound bad in the PC and a standalone CD player?

Hi Lightning UK,

thanks for responding. The CUE window gives the following list:

1 > source

2 > MPEG-I Stream splitter

3> MPEG Layer-3 decoder

4> Sample Grabber

5> Null Renderer

All with "(Vender Info: Unknown)" behind it.

The disk burned OK. The program hanged during verification.

It sounds equally aweful in CD standalone player as in PC.

Any chance you could send me one of the problem files for testing?

You can use the email address in the program's 'About' box. (Help menu)

There's nothing I'll be able to do to fix the problem but I'd like to test it out with the default filters in a newer OS. (i.e. Windows 7 rather than what I assume must be XP)

i had the same problem today, i burned some mp3 audio files making a cue using imgburn. and burned it using imgburn, and the songs come out with so much distortion on the burned cd. if i play the files on my pc they are fine. only sound awful on the burned cd. i am using windows 7. i used a different burner software  called  avs disc creator, and the songs sound fine when burned to disc. but i would rather use imgburn to burn a cd because i have problems getting avs to burn all the songs i want onto a disc. it  doesnt burn all the songs.imgburn did, but they came out sounding so bad. so i don't know what the problem could be.

Something in your directshow filters list must be causing this.

make a new cue with one of the problem files and right click it in the list so you can view the filters list.

please let me know what it says.
