Sony DVP-CX995V 400 disc player and ImgBurner

A little help please!

I have a Gateway AMD 2.2 Dual core system, 1 GB Ram, Windows Media Center Ed, Sp2., Burner LITE-ON SHW 16355, Player SAMSUNG SD616E,

I ran DVD DECRYPTER, DVD Shrink and the OEM Nero 6.6.014 and had no problems.

I uped the Nero to ver. 6.6.018 which didn't' work and did a Sys Recovery to Nero 6.6.015E which still doesn't work.

They both burned the DVD but it only plays on the computer not on my Sony 400 disc player.

I then d/l ImgBurn and tried that. Got the same burns as the uped Nero versions.

The OEM Nero gave me no problems, and the only thing left is to do a Clean Install of everything.

Before that, do you guys have any suggestions for an easier fix?

 

The DVD Decrypter burned in 1.5 hours but failed the burn.

The ImgBurner in 25 minutes

The OEM Nero Burner in 6 minutes

Why the differance, I don't know!

Hi;

I use Sony DVD discs and have done over 200 so far, with not one bad burn.

ImgBurn does the burn but the movie will not play on the Sony Player. All the other discs I burned play fine!

What I think might be causing this problem, is the Nero pg. But it shouldn't be involved since I installed ImgBurn, correct?

from this Id check my DMA settings you're set to max write

the drive sees the write speeds as 6-16x

 

looking for the firmware for that drive I came across this

right click the burner in the destination box of IMGburn last line " firmware update" follow the prompts and update yours see if it helps. Your firmware sounds like it could be the Computer manufacturers firmware so you might have to go to their website or I'd crossflash it to official liteon firmware

Yup, looks like a DMA issue to me.

 

Something's limiting it to 2x and it's not ImgBurn / user settings / the drive / the media.

That ID field is really only good for +R disks. It is not always filled with readable material on -Rs.

 

And I'd check DMA and definintely update that firmware

Still having problems.

I reset the DMA and it is Ultra DMA Mode 5 (if available).

No change

Did a System Recovery back a month when burning worked well

No change

Brought system back to present day.

No change

Tried every setting the ImgBurn Guides show, and went through 8 DVD's, all no good, They play on the computer but not on the Sony Player.

While Burning, it seems ImgBurn does not write the Lead In or Lead Out sectors. It starts to, but jumps to the other files.

Also it burns very slowly, even though it is set to Max Burn Speed.

I burned the Sony DVD Disks on friends system, they worked perfectly. 6 of them.

Friends system does not use ImgBurn, only Nero 6.6.0.14 burn engine.

This is what I had before I up'ed to Nero 6.6.018 then back to 6.6.015E then to 6.6.014.

I think I'll have to do a complete Clean Install to get back to OEM configs!

 

Also, I did a System Disc recovery disc set, by using the Windows Restore Tools, and that burned perfectly.

Is this some sort of WXPP burner that could be used instead of ImgBurn?

 

By the way, If you do a System Recovery to a earlier date, it also changes everything on the Slave HD, and you can lose everything.

Make sure to disconnect the HD Cable before doing the Recovery.

I d/l the latest Firmware for my LiteOn SHW-1635S burner, but it will not except a new firmeware install...???

The drive Region Code says it has a LOCK too???

Could be Sony's player. Sony makes notoriously shitty stuff when they make it themselves. I once returned a VHS/DVD combo to the store because stuff burned ON Sony media BY a "true" Sony drive, i.e. not a rebadged LiteOn, etc. that played even on the PS2 would not be recognized on Sony's SLV-D300P. My review was not the only one that mentioned the word RETURN on Amazon.com.

Bill like I said in my post the firmware you show is not a lite on firmware from what I could find its probably a firmware that the computer manufacturer installed for a drive thats OEM , thats why its region locked and you cant flash to original LON firmware . How old is your comp and who made it ? Packard Bell ,Dell, HP ,Gateway, E machines This will help .Although the Sonys played fine is this a new batch ? and maybe one of your friends have some media you could try Verbatim preferably but anything at this point

The Sony DVD's are ok. They work fine on other systems.

I have an idea there might be a s/w conflict between the Nero and the ImgBurn install.

I'm going to do a uninstall of both the Nero and ImgBurn, then reinstall the original Nero from the Gateway Back Up. If this doesn't work again, I'll save all data and files to the slave and unplug it, then do a total recovery.

It may take a few days to get everything back up.

In case you guys have more to add, I won't do the recovery until Thursday.

If you could post the serial number from the bottom of the disk BillB, the one that 's very small and on the clear part of the hub and also nearest to the hub, not the one on the edge of the dye. That will tell us whether your Verbatims are made by Prodisc or CMC(assuming your in North America, if your in Europe they could also be made by MBIL in India). There are starting to be problems with Prodisc made Verbs, CMC's seem excellent so far.

I also went into the BIOS to check the DMA settings.

The DVDRW drive is set to PIO and I cannot set it to DMA ????

In Device Mgr, I cannot reset the DAM either. It says it has UDMA If available, but is running in PIO.

The Nero test shows it in PIO.

I contacted Gateway for a Firmware up grade, but they offer no new versions.

LiteOn has many new versions, as above, but none will install.

I help off on doing a Fill Clean Install because I doubt it will do anything to the LiteOn Firmware, right?

 

Looks like I'll either have to use that third party s/w to redo the firmware, or buy a new DVDRW.

Any suggestions ware very welcome!!!

No, a clean reinstall of the OS won't affect the firmware of the burner...sorry.

By the way, I did a search for this LiteOn drive and found out half the planet has the same problem. Not only with the LiteOn but with other DVDRW's and other mfg's!

Why these companies do something like this propritory stuff, beats me!?

@ BillB, I misunderstood that you were having trouble with Verb media, not Sony, hence why I asked for the serial #.

I live in the Fl., Keys, and getting legit DVD discs here is murder. Most all are counterfeit junk. I tested the Sony discs and they are good. I tried to buy a case, 600, from Ti Yuden but they won't cut case price deal. Too expensive for me!

Latest on my problem:

I did a BIOS reset and tried to set the Secondary IDE Channel to DMA, but no go. It still stays at PIO

Tried to set it via Devise Mgr, no good.

Got feedback from Gateway saying they have no up grades for the Firmware.

Got feedback from LiteOnIT.com their up grades will not install at all. I get an error saying this Up Grade is for xxx drive (same number) but still it won't install.

I went to MS and they have no help for this.

I did another search and got 1000's of hits for this problem, again.

By the time I find a fix for this drive, I can buy a new DVDRW cheaper.

Any recommendations for a decent DVDRW drive?

This will be the last time I buy a major factory brand system, for sure!

The Pioneer 111D is an excellent drive and can be found quite cheap. If you can find a BenQ 1650 or 1655 they too are excellent, and can also be used for quality scanning.

Can you actualy set it to DMA in the BIOS? Or is it greyd out?

 

Did you delete the controller in device manager? As per the FAQ? Or did you just try to change it in the properties of the drive?

 

I don't believe changing the drive will fix your DMA problem.

The LiteOn SHW-1635S would not do a Firmeare up grade.

 

The BIOS would not let me reset, they were grayed out!

 

I tried the Properties in the Drive, but no good!

 

I then deleted the Drivers for the Drive and the Secondary IDE Controller than rebooted.

 

All worked normal for one burn, then went back to the problem.

I did the deletes again, plus I deleted Nero and ImgBurn, then rebooted.

Reinstalled Nero from the Recovery Tool.

 

All seems good now. How long this will last I don't know.
