lfcrule1972
Why would you want to ? Excuse my ignorance but isn't it better to use Shrink or similar and not risk a crap end to the film ?
elguardian
It's automatic. Tx. Â Example overburn: DVDShrink 98% compression (27' processing). Overburn: 4540MB 0% compression (0' compressing). Use Overburn!
lfcrule1972
Yeah I can see that it means less compression but presumably its going to need A1 media to lessen the risk of a crap burn ? I use TY's but never even considered overburns.... Â Regards
zacoz
If talking video, you'd never be able to pick the difference visually between the two anyway - it's just not worth the risk to muck around with overburning IMHO. In most cases, you'd be either doing no compression and fitting a DVD-5 without overburn, or compressing anyway to fit the overburnt DVD-5, thus you wouldn't be saving having to compress at all. karangguni
Many DVD discs tend to be of crappy quality at the outer edges of discs. By this I mean the quality of the burn on the outer edges of discs tends to be worse than the rest of the disc. If you have a BenQ 1640 and have used Qscan, you will know what I mean. By overburning, you are actually trying to cram more data into the part of the disc which is of the worst quality! Â Secondly, discs tend to die from the outer edges inwards. You're looking for trouble if you try and put your precious data there. Â Many people dilberately avoid burning a full disc for these two reasons. They leave about 100Mb free at the ends of discs. Â Take it from a person who used to overburn CDs and lost quite a bit of data on them - it is not worth it.
lfcrule1972
As I said I have never tried overburning but my experience of blank DVD media is that even supposedly decent media can be ropey right at the edge and for that reason I have never tried it.
