viktor
hey, i got a nasty bug here. i got one certain cuesheet which freezes my xp (imgburn 2.4.1.0). it goes up to 14%, and then the writer stops blinking, and nothing happens after that. heres the .cue: PERFORMER "Mixed By: Hiver & Hammer" TITLE "A Trip in Trance (CD1)" FILE "A Trip in Trance (CD1 Mixed by Hiver Hammer).mp3" MP3 TRACK 01 AUDIO TITLE "Midtone - Pearl" INDEX 01 00:00:00 TRACK 02 AUDIO TITLE "Sonorous - Protonic (Ronski Speed Mix)" INDEX 01 05:40:44 TRACK 03 AUDIO TITLE "Above & Beyond - Far From In Love" INDEX 01 11:30:45 TRACK 04 AUDIO TITLE "Push vs. Globe - Tranceformation" INDEX 01 16:37:20 TRACK 05 AUDIO TITLE "Hemstock & Jennings - Northern Lights" INDEX 01 22:39:42 TRACK 06 AUDIO TITLE "Hiver & Hammer feat. LIGHTNING UK!
You can't call anything a bug until you know what the actual cause is! Where's the log of the burn? Do you have a screenshot of what's on the screen when it's stopped and no longer doing anything?

LIGHTNING UK!
It would appear the drive is giving up as it moves over to track 3. If you were to attempt to burn that same CUE again (say 5 times), does it fail each time in the exact same place? (please don't just guess if you've not tried it!) If you then try to burn another cue (on the same disc, without rebooting etc) does it work fine first time?

If you then try to burn another cue (on the same disc, without rebooting etc) does it work fine first time? yeah i tried it several times after the last post i waited for imgburn to finish (it didnt). i finally kicked it from task manager, and after some time i could eject the cd. then i erased the disk and now (with no reboot) tried to burn the 3rd cue (far away trains passing by), and now its stalled at 59% :S

LIGHTNING UK!
Try any of them. I don't think the files have anything to do with the issue. Use the eject button in imgburn to get the disc out. The tray is locked, that's why the button won't work. ImgBurn issues the unlock command before the eject one so it gets around that problem. viktor
i thought i finally realized what the problem was. i installed nero expres (came with the drive), and it also got stuck at 20% (i guess its the same position and differs numerically due to differences in implementation). so i thought the mp3 is corrupt in some way. i edited the cuesheet so that it use the Progression mp3 file. but now it fails again, at 14%. there must be something wrong with the cuesheet but i just donno what the hell it is. could you please try to burn an album with this certain cuesheet (the first one, "a trip in trance")? viktor
hmm. it's really fishy. now i booted 64bit xp (the bug was encountered on 32bit xp), and the cue was burnt w/o any problem... i'll try to burn the cue from a wave file... i run out of ideas Edited April 16, 2008 by viktor
LIGHTNING UK!
The program is not in control at the point where it's stopping - I know this because you're unable to abort. Basically it's sent a command to the drive and it then waiting for the OS or whatever to process it. Control is only returned to the application once it's either completed successfully or errored out. You're not getting either of those things happening and that's why the whole system kinda hangs - the I/O subsystem has hung/crashed and rebooting is the only way forwards. Do you know which controller your drive is connected to? Are the drivers up-to-date for your motherboard? What about the bios? You could try following the post in the FAQ relating to resetting DMA (it involves uninstalling your controller and rebooting) - this often fixes a lot of problems. viktor
thanks for your ideas. i'll try to update a few drivers now. the bios is the most current to date. in the meanwhile i tried another configuration. to conclude: cue a + mp3 a = fail cue a + mp3 b = success cue b + mp3 a = success cue b + mp3 b = success so both the cue and mp3 works with other files. interesting... edit: the drive is connected to sata3 Edited April 16, 2008 by viktor
LIGHTNING UK!
Sometimes you have 2 SATA controllers on a motherboard. One that's part of the main chipset and the other via a 3rd party controller. You might need to check the manual to work out which is which.

viktor
FYI, it also fails on 32bit vista (installed recently) and on a PC owned by a friend of mine. i think he uses XP. but for him it fails at 28% and he was able to eject the CD. additionally, he got an I/O Error message (i didn't). LIGHTNING UK!
That drive probably 10 years old now! A firmware update would help out. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1544 That aside, how comes you didn't burn using the newer DVD burner? Is your friend using decent media? viktor
i donno what kind of cd he used, but i guess it could be the cause of the problem (or the old burner) i burned it on xp64 and it was ok: I 19:55:53 ImgBurn Version 2.4.1.0 started!I 19:55:53 Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (5.2, Build 3790 : Service Pack 2)I 19:55:53 Total Physical Memory: 2 096 196 KB - Available: 1 476 988 KBI 19:55:53 Initialising SPTI...I 19:55:53 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 19:55:54 Found 1 DVD
viktor
FYI: ok i found sg: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924051 i already placed a hotfix request (i have to beg for it, funny isn't it? ), now i'm waiting for their response edit: it seems it's already solved in xp sp3. it also works on windows server 2003 (sp2), which has the same kernel & codebase that windows xp 64bit edit has. now only vista remains, i'll let ms know that their fix is necessary on vista too Edited May 23, 2008 by viktor
dontasciime
You just need this atapi.rar extract it and copy atapi.sys into system32/drivers you will more than likely have to do this in safe mode or extract replacer and run the file and then drop original system file into window and press enter then drag the one you want to replace that with into window and reboot if asked Replacer.zip
