50/50 is the most compatible but that doesn't mean 60/40 shouldn't work. That's what the specs say anyway! I can't say as it's something I've really tried out though! Have you looked at the booktype settings? Maybe your drive isn't set to DVDROM for DVD+R DL media (so ImgBurn discs wont look like DVDROM) - but Nero set DVDROM on a per burn basis and so wouldn't have that problem. You could probably use PgcEdit to make a nicer ISO with the layerbreak more around the 50/50 position.

If PgeEdit is creating the ISO you're then burning with ImgBurn, you shouldn't have a problem with a disc originally being a PTP one. PgcEdit will insert padding where it needs to so that you can still have a nice cell to position the layer break on. If you're not using PgcEdit, ImgBurn will inform you if it's unable to find a place to put the layer break. Being a PTP doesn't mean it will always fail... just it could do. To see if the disc is PTP, put it in the drive and look at the info window panel on the right within ImgBurn - or use something like DVDInfoPro and look at the media information.

Ah hah... found the problem Whilst calculating the position to seek to within the file, the number must have been defaulting to using a 32bit integer rather than a 64bit one - which the result was being stored in. A large number would have overflowed a 32bit integer variable - as is the case for a BUP file because it's normally much later on in the disc. (large LBA value * sector size is > max value a 32bit int can hold) That would indeed be why you were finding random data changes in your vob. The new BUP would have been written to whatever (incorrect) file position the program had calculated, overwriting what was there originally. Thanks, this has now been fixed.

Ok, I double checked my code and I honestly do update the IFO and BUP. I knew I wouldn't forget something like that! I still have no idea where your VOB file changes are coming from but I can assure you it's not intentional if it does indeed turn out to be ImgBurn's fault. In order for me to try and reproduce any potential issues ImgBurn may be having with your ISO, I'll need you to use my little grab5m program and send me what's essentially enough of the image (5 meg!) for me to look at the filesystem and recreate anything I need to. ImgBurn doesn't touch the VOB file, not sure why you found that it does. As ImgBurn only burns ISO files (at the moment anyway), it's not possible for it to pad out the files in a way that cell 24 would have landed on a sector divisible by 16. This 'sector divisible by 16' thing is an absolute must so far as being compliant with DVD-Video specs. Call it the number 1 rule if you like. I could have sworn the BUP file is modified too btw. Something as basic as that is not something I'd miss out!

Just look at the 'Supported Write Speeds'. Does it list 1x? If not, you're out of luck.

DVDShrink doesn't burn with ImgBurn unless you've done the process mentioned at the top of this forum in the sticky. As such, you need to repeat that process for 1.1.0.0

Easy one this... don't buy Ritek DL discs. Go for Verbatims. Update your drives firmware too. You should be on A106 now, not A102. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1973

Any chance you could do a a PIPO scan of discs burnt with each program and post them up so we can compare. It shouldn't be possible for one program to produce something different to the other one.

Uninstalling the IDE controller from within Device Manager has the same effect as that - execpt it's easier, cleaner and removes the entire key, not just those reg values. (nick800 claims he's already done/tried that - ARE YOU SURE nick800 ?!) Uninstalling ImgBurn isn't going to help matters, nor is buying a new burner.

Keep deleting all IDE controller related stuff until it works! Try installing the latest chipset / ide drivers too.

Yes, that is correct. If/when ImgBurn lets you burn from a bunch of files, dealing with the layerbreak will be easier. An image file is very restrictive when it comes to positioning the layerbreak and lining things up properly.

Nothing about transfer mode in there? It does vary from bios to bios though so perhaps you don't have such a thing. PC's from people like Dell and that may not have them (incase yours isn't home made). Try the IDE controller thing again. With the entire branch (i.e. controller + the 2 channels) uninstalled, reboot and wait for it to find them all again. Then check what windows thinks DMA is set to by looking at the properties of each 'channel' entry.

Although you say you've uninstalled the IDE controller, this is still a DMA issue. (So basically, it didn't work). Moving the window would also consume CPU cycles and that's why you're seeing a drop in the speed - there is even less free for the I/O stuff.
