  1. It looks like the drive is dead. It's correctly showing the tray being opened/closed and the drive trying to initialise the disc...but then it just reports there's no disc present. Do you have any sort of warranty on the computer?
  2. That's because it's nothing to do with what's in the drive. When 'Auto' is enabled, it changes the selection in the combobox to the media required for the files you've added. So if there's less than 4.37GB worth of files it'll show a single layer disc, if it's over it'll show a double layer disc. There are of course various stages/media types before and after those.
  3. Already done it Obviously you'll have to wait for the next release though.
  4. Ok so I got my ASMedia chipset based PCIe card ... it works fine The difference being, I'm running Windows 7 x64 SP1. I guess I need to get XP x86 installed on a spare machine and put the card in that to test with.
  5. Maybe its to do with you burning more/less per layer... but it's nothing to do with the (contents of the) actual image.
  6. Was there no sign of progress during the erase/format? It usually shows a % complete. Terminating the process loses the log as it doesn't get a chance to write it out nicely when the app closes. Remove the disc from the drive, turn the machine off again, remove the power lead and remove the battery. Leave it for 30 seconds and then put the battery back in, followed by the power lead. Turn it on and boot to Windows. Load ImgBurn, switch to Write mode and and press the F8 key (to enable I/O debug mode). Now insert a disc - it might be best to start with an original DVD-ROM disc. The message in the status bar at the bottom of the main window should change as it tries to initialise the disc. Once it has finished and settled on state of readiness, press F8 again and then click File -> Save As in the Log window. Save the log to a file and attach it.
  7. The drive doesn't know or care about what you're burning. If it errors out then it's due to a problem burning the media and nothing to do with the file.
  8. I've never seen/heard of it causing any problems with playback.
  9. Try at 4x? Try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc? Try a disc from another spindle of discs? (Maybe MKM-003-00 instead of MKM-001-00)
  10. As mentioned before, Nero may not rely on the 'TEST UNIT READY' command to detect if media has been inserted/is present and the drive is 'Ready'.... ImgBurn does If you get ImgBurn working with a drive on the Intel controller (or any that actually work) and switch to Write mode, you'll notice the message in the status bar is actually the drive's response to the 'TEST UNIT READY' command. Eject the disc/tray and the status bar will reflect that ('Medium Not Present - Tray Open'). Load the disc/tray and the status bar will reflect that too (various messages as the drive attempts to initialise the disc).
  11. Ok so I just installed the latest Trend as a free trial (in a virtual machine) and it seems that it doesn't actually cause it to freeze, it just makes writing the settings to the registry REALLY slow! You can see for yourself if you run Process Monitor and add a filter for a process named ImgBurn.exe Instead of writing out all the settings (about 500+ in total) in a second, it can only do about 5 per second (that's probably subject to the speed of your machine). Adding ImgBurn.exe to the exceptions list sorted that out for me.

  13. Please read the pink box up the top - especially the bits in large/bold fonts.
  14. I thought you might have given up with that card and moved onto one that works properly with optical drives! Still, I guess it was worth trying various drivers first.
  15. SmartPack connects to the internet, sends the ID string of your drive to a server and then parses the response to see if a newer firmware is available. If there is, it either runs it for you automatically or you're given the opportunity/prompted to do so. (I don't recall which!) If you want standalone firmware exe files, just visit Firmware HQ (or use the 'Check for firmware updates' feature in ImgBurn).
  16. Their 'Search' may be useless but the product pages are still all there. http://us.liteonit.com/us/dvd-internal/item/dvdinternal/ihas124 The 'SmartPack' program handles firmware updates for all of their drives... and you can get that from here... http://us.liteonit.com/us/service-support/download/cat_view/44-software-tool/54-utilities
  17. They can all be configured via the (Tools -> ) Settings, you just have to look for them. The ones you want can be found on Page 3 & 4 of the 'Build' tab.
  18. From the 'Guides' section. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=6380
  19. Curious. Wouldn't it be possible to add the string SAMSUNG DVDWBD SH-B083L in the advanced box and see if it book types then? For now, sure. But it will be automatic as of the next version.
  20. This is not related to ImgBurn. Your files control the aspect ratio and ImgBurn burns them 'as-is'.
  21. What AV are you running?
  22. You aren't using ImgBurn.
  23. Strange as it may seem, 'SAMSUNG' isn't a normal device identifier for Samsung drives and it wasn't in the lookup table for mapping drive names to the different commands used for the booktype/advanced settings stuff!
  24. I don't do a lot of testing with cheap media. Try the MyCE forums.
