The firmware makes discs look bigger that normal. So unless whatever you're burning is larger than the extended disc size, you won't get the prompt to overburn or truncate.

That's old news but I'm glad it's got you sorted out. Do note that the strategy you've substituted in might not be the optimal one for your media. Even if it opens up 2.4x on media that previously only allowed 4x, 6x and 8x, it still doesn't mean it'll produce a better quality burn. 4x with the right strategy could be better than 2.4x with the wrong one.

Yes I'm 100% sure. ImgBurn does actually tell the drive to write at whatever speed you tell it to. There's no artifical limitation in that respect. ImgBurn doesn't really limit you for anything, the drive controls what can and can't be done. It's down to the drive to actually use the speed ImgBurn asked for. You'll know when it doesn't because ImgBurn asks the drive what the current write speed is set to and will warn you (via the log window) when it reports it's using a different speed to the one you asked for.

This stuff is like a game of Chinese Whispers. One person says something, another reads it, modifies it slightly or takes it out of context and then tells their version to the next person I never said anything was a 'mistake', I just said what (I believed) was happening because of what had been done.

Try the other speeds your drive supports on those discs - 2.4x and 4x. The drive might need cleaning with a cleaning disc. You discs could have become useless over time (depends on how / where you store them). Thers's a newer version of ImgBurn available. Your layer break stuff is fine.

The brand name isn't important when buying discs, it's the MID/dye they use. Yours are using the 'UMEDISC-DL1-64' MID/dye and it's just not a very good one - lots of drives will fail to burn it very well / at all. The thread I linked you to in my first post tells you what you can try doing with your current discs. If everything fails, do what it says and buy some Verbatim discs. If they fail too, buy a new drive.

At a guess, it's because you're using rubbish 'UMEDISC-DL1-64' discs and your drive doesn't like them.

I think the disc just wasn't created/burnt (pressed) correctly in the first place. If you'd used ImgBurn to build a new ISO (by just adding 'E:\' to the 'source' box), it probably would have created a new ISO that you could use with the USB/DVD tool. Another option may have have been to trim the ISO made by Read mode to a size of 3,224,686,592 bytes. But anyway, you've got it on USB now so no need to keep messing with it

That drive is getting on a bit now and probably doesn't like the media you're using. Write Retries don't really work on DVD+RW / BD-RE media because they support direct overwrite - so the disc content won't actually all be there. Verify would have picked up on that if you hadn't turned it off. You should consider getting some better media (not rewritable stuff) and probably a new drive too.

Ok well it looks like *something* has been written to it but it's not much and it certainly hasn't been finished off (closed / finalised etc) properly (or at all) ! You'd have to try closing the track first, then session, then disc. Try using the sector viewer to see if sector 16 is readable.

You don't need to do anything, the program will just overwrite the data (that's how BD-RE work).

No, the strategies built into the firmware don't seem to play well with overburning. Like I said in that text, I had to re-enable FHT and OHT in the advanced settings (eeprom settings) in order to get a successful (overburnt) burn. By enabling FHT you're basically back where you started with the original c4e firmware - with the exception of being able to verify at 12x rather than 8x. You do however lose the ability to burn at 2.4x. If you're getting bad burns on MKM003 @ 4x with OPC on, it's probably due to the discs themselves (or faulty drive). Unfortunately, not even all Verbatim discs are created equal. The ones from Singapore always seem to produce the best result but even those can vary a bit. I've seen scans of perfectly flat L0 -> L1 PI/PO levels whereas mine seem to jump from about 5 PI on the 1st layer to about 20 PI on the 2nd layer. I don't get the a massive spike at the LB though which is what I've seen a lot of people complaining about.

Yes, it does help and I notice there's a difference between the file system reported size and the actual size on the disc. Now I think the only thing that would really help here is to examine every sector and find the last anchor. But that's just to satisfy my curiosity and does nothing to help you! You should just run the tool from the site I linked you to and have it fix the ISO. Then the MS USB/DVD tool should work fine.

Look in the status bar of the main window, what does it say? It sounds like you might have a problem with the 'searching for scsi / atapi devices' phase. It would happen on any OS. For me, it's a problem with the 'CreateFile' API when using the 'FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING' flag. When you disable buffering you can only read in multiples of the *logical* sector size - so reading 2048 bytes would fail on a 4K logical sector drive but work fine on a 512 byte logical sector drive. Reading 8K would work just fine on both. The bit they talk about with XP not supporting Advanced Format drives is mainly for when XP partitions them I believe.
