With that burner and media combination, I would try with 6x as the write speed.

Check in Windows Device Manager how it's set up there. How is it connected? USB/ATA?

Normal value for a Verbatim -R DVD is this: Edit: According to mmalves these values are ok, even if I never seen that other value on my Verbatims. DVD-R = 2297888 or 2298496

Can be tricky to burn with older burners. Only thing you can do with the current burner is to try the other speeds 4x and 6x. Verbatim is also worth a try.

You have a CD writer, not a DVD writer.

ImgBurn burns files as they are. You need to use another program to insert subs.

Only way to know is to burn them.

Might help if you buy a DVD burner.

The log can never be bigger than 500KB in size. If you need the hard disk space and your burn is ok, delete it.

I would say in most cases you need this guide when you convert .avi files and & to DVD Movie compliant files. More or less never for commercial DVDs.

bootmec.exe was the file name I got and it can't/shouldn't be extracted with WinRAR.

I've never owned an LG so I have no clue how they perform. I would find out what media code I'm going to burn and then check at MyCE to see scanning results with the combination of media and burner.
