  2. Why the hell mobo manufacturers keep using that company to do IDE is beyond belief do they not know there is something very wrong with it. Stick 2 dedicated IDE ports back on and plenty of SATA as well. My god you pay enough for the latest mobo's.
  3. you mean Chewy Sorry Grandpa I just think your too funny and btw working with the computer for 5 years, I think you should get some Zzzzzz now. Don't be offended just get hip with it, hardly worth losing your hair over.

  5. There seems to be no firmware for your hp writer. You should check on hp site for future firmware if any ever get released for that drive. Give hp a call and tell them your not happy and it does not work and ask them to replace it with something that works. Also as suggested lower the write speed to 8x and see if that helps. Change the disc's to taiyo yuden tyg02 or verbatim mcc and if still no good contact HP

  9. Your writer does not like those, Buy some verbatim ones and you should have more luck you could update firmware and try again http://www.sonynec-optiarc.de/uploads/Zs/R...170A_GN_104.ZIP take out any disc in the writer and keep draw closed then double click AD7170A_GN_104.exe and in any window that opens double check you drive is listed in the highlighted box b4 saying OK, Once updated reboot your computer for Windows to pick up device again. If after update you get same error then get some verbatim dual layer and burn at 2.4x
  10. Try another good quality disc 8x tyg02 or mcc before deciding on new drive. Pioneer 111(if you can find 1) or 112 or liteon 20A1P, Samsung latest 20x writer( if you have SATA)
