  1. You like the sleeved ide cables then. I hate em, used them a few times and got data curruption and a couple of broken Hd's(mind you there were both 1 week old maxtor drives) 300gig and 250gig, everytime I use them something goes wrong, more than likey coincidence. Never used em since though. They must have started to make em after seeing your post http://www.acryan.com/_roundcables/ACR-RC9352.shtml 45cm unless of course you meant 15cm they just started to do them.
  2. Yep, good point. My drives were out of warranty by that time, would not take that approach with a new drive.
  3. Waste of space Jmicron (dunno why I Have been thinking they were Jbmicron) must have been a typo in one of my manuals. How long is the cable you have L_UK. above 70cm. Thing is most modern case you cannot use standard 46cm or is it 48cm 80 wire Ide they are just not long enough and get nowhere near where you need them. I have had to buy loads of 70cm ones, maybe some longer never had the errors others have had with longer cables but under the specs for Ide cable they do mention longer cables can cause all kinds of problems.
  4. lens cleaner its a CD with a couple of bristles on one WET the other Dry drop some of the solution that comes with it onto the Wet bristle pop the CD into ROM drive and open my computer browse for the CD and it will have a few audio tracks on it play and follow instructions. Depends where you live as to choice and price generally a couple of
  5. It could still turn out to be a hardware related issue eg the actual drive being screwed. Ram is so cheap now and so are drives it should not hurt you that much in the pocket department. Which CPU is it and do you know what size psu is in that case and what the available amps on 12v line are ? If your running say an athlon 64 you need at least 20 amps on 12v line for a stable system without the fear of the psu being under heavy strain and threat of going POP/POOF/ or what ever sound they make when in agony and death.
  6. so Sony's website redirects to Nero. That would be strange behaviour and spyware like activity. You do not need to be connected to the internet to get spyware, It comes in many guises and hidden within many different types of programs. http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru820adwn.htm drive check tool http://sony.storagesupport.com/cdrw/diagnostics.htm read if you can use it.
  7. At the end of the day, computers do not reboot for no reason.
  8. Why all of a sudden. Things break, Could be your psu, could be your drivers, some corruption in ram, virus, spyware, As mentioned above could be one of a million things. A clean install would rule out many. (you may not be able to re-install if your psu/memory/cpu is faulty). you could run memtest to check your ram. check the temps of your cpu with core temp 095 or everest. get spybot search and destroy and make sure your antivirus is up to date and run a check for spyware and viruses. try that drive in another comp if you have one or try another drive in your comp/ check cables are in secure.
  9. Maybe limit how much data is burned to 4300mb to keep it away from outer edge. Try a lens cleaner as well though.
  10. I like all of them. Homer: but Marge I swear I never thought you'd find out
  11. or turn it off by start/run and type gpedit.msc. follow pictures and apply
  12. Using which disc's. maybe what your installing after is causing you trouble. What is jungo. [edit] never mind thought it looked familiar, if it is pcix/usb stuff maybe that is causing the issues What size psu have you got in ? and regardless of Watts what ampage is the 12 v line (normally on the sticker of psu) [edit] and your drivers are not exactly the same as mine... look under atapi
  13. Make sure you go into bios and Disable SILICON IMAGE SATA II These are under Onboard device configuration. Under serial ATA enable Serial ATA Controller And Disable RAID Then Enable the SATA ports you are going to use.
  14. Would not be advisable to buy them, hit and miss. Get some verbatim mcc or verbatim tygo3 from svp.co.uk [edit] they are out of stock they have pack of 100 panasonic tygo3 for
  15. Which drivers are listed under device manager. This is what mine looks like. I also ran ImgBurn and used cmc mag media (not known for being the best media) and opened loads of windows a few instances of my computer, paint, websites and not a hint of any slowdown/ issues burning etc. I 15:56:55 ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 started!I 15:56:55 Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition (6.0, Build 6000) I 15:56:55 Total Physical Memory: 2,094,976 KB - Available: 1,642,396 KB I 15:56:55 Initialising SPTI... I 15:56:55 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 15:57:05 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD
  16. I am going to use as few nvidia drivers as possible. I will be using nvidia chipset drivers only to set up guart if applicable to vista and to set up nb sb stuff. I will not be using the ide driver and will leave MS to assign it's own ide/sata drivers I will not be using the Sil Image sata. edit what make model are your 500 gig hd's
  17. which sata ports are you using there are six red ones and a black one, are you using the black one by anychance.
  18. if it is not media issue, then its hardware or driver or bios settings. I am getting drivers together to install vista to my asus m2n32-sli-Deluxe.
  19. Which bios has your asus got in. I have one of those boards are you using the nvidia drivers to handle sata, I just use the built in ones and never have any trouble apart from when i use the nvidia drivers. I have not run vista on that board yet, I will install it today and see what happens with my install. [edit] after watching your blurry video it just looks like writer hates that media.
  20. You say this is happening on 2 machines running vista.
  21. Good stuff. Can't wait for the new series, has become a favourite of mine over the years Clarkson has been running it. I know a lot of people hate him but I think he is just so funny.
