I know there is a 20X BenQ coming out quick, although word on the street for it is Liteon rebadged. This model you mention I haven't heard of. In the past, BenQ's that were RAM ready had a Panasonic chipset I believe, and weren't widely appreciated.

I've been changing ISP's searching for the holy grail, mediocre speed internet. Still looking.

I donated to the fuckers also

funny you dont like your 1655 for d/l grain , i mainly use my 1640 for d/l now as its giving the best scanned results at 4x.
my 1655 only has 2.4x supported speed for d/l, my 716sa isn't that good at d/l , the pioneer is almost as good as the benq though
My 165X's will do an average job at 2.4X, but they seem to do not so well at anything faster than that, IF you can find media that it even can, as you say Corny. Pion 111 & LG 22N both will scan 93-96% at 6-8X, and as Verbatim rate's and guarantee's the MKM 001-00 at those speeds, they are the drives I use. Don't have the Plex 716A in the box right now (need a bigger case!).

Like Kev say's, you can't beat Future Shops sale price. NCIX.com also has the odd sale, they're in Vancouver.

The Plextor 716 did/does an excellent job with dual layer discs. The Pioneer 111 also does a fine job, as does the LG H22N. These are drives that I use with DL's. I don't particularily like the way Benq 1655/0's do DL's, but then again you can't easily buy them now anyway. If you are looking for an all around excellent drive, the Pioneer 111 might be for you. The LG is a favorite of mine, but it isn't a good reader. You may want to wait for the new Pioneers which are due out in January, with FINALLY a sata version following a few months later.

I loved GT3, GT4 didn't have quite the same appeal, although game play had improved. Didn't like the way you had to progress through the game as much with 4 as 3.

Spindle Servo Failure
That's not a good sign, your drive could be getting ready to join the choir invisible. Try burning it slower instead of at max speed, try 8X, if that doesn't work, try 4X, but TYG03's don't usually work well at 4X. Let us know how it comes out.

The Compact Disc reached the market in late 1982 in Asia and early the following year in other markets. (Billy Joel's 52nd Street was the first CD released commercially ... in Japan in October, 1982.) [2] This event is often seen as the "Big Bang" of the digital audio revolution. The new audio disc was enthusiastically received, especially in the early-adopting classical music and audiophile communities and its handling quality received particular praise. The far larger popular and rock music industries were slower to adopt the new format, especially in the huge consumer markets in Europe and the United States. This "highbrow niche" status of the CD format changed dramatically in May, 1985, when UK rock band Dire Straits, then under contract by Philips' Polygram, released the album Brothers in Arms. One of the first all-digital rock recordings and the first by a major act, Brothers in Arms played to the strengths of the CD by offering more and longer tracks, running ten minutes longer than the album's concurrent LP and cassette releases. It spurred the sale of compact disc players like no other recording before it, helped to drive down the price of players, induced other acts and record labels to release more music on CD and firmly established the format in the mind of the average consumer.

I had great luck with Ricoh dyed +R DL's, but can't find them anymore. Here in Canada the informed shopper can get 20 Verb DL's for $30CAD, about $26US, which is only a buck fitty a piece. Have found Fuji DL's with Ritek dye for $1.33, but if you check the media section you'll see they aren't that sharp.

@Grain
Also, I thought that Rush's Power Windows--also 1985--was the first DDD--all digital--album ever released?
Either way, we've got the year down pat
-
He doesn't say whether he recorded them himself or not, but anyway Dire Straits Brothers in Arms(1985) was I believe the first cd released that was DDD ie digital recorded, mastered, and transfered to disc (I stand to be corrected on what each D stands for, but that's close). So the technology was in use then, what exactly they used though I can't say.

No thanks, I'm not gay.Fook meFook U
-
Fook me, 20 Verb DL's are $30-35CAD here, I should be shipping them to you.

How'd those velcro gloves you had custom made work with your favorite "pet" LFC?

If you want one for games, this is the one I'd get, and actually probably am! Info copied from another site, sells for $329CAD, which should be about $290-300US.

Future Shop has 100 disc spindles of Verbatim + or - 16X for $19.95C! Just make sure you pick out the CMC made ones and not the Prodisc made Verbatims. There are some MBIL made starting to show up also, apparently they are better than the Prodiscs, not as good as the CMC's. I'm going to have to stock up, bot a shit load when they were $30, but this is better than Christmas!
