Verbatims are the only way to go. With well over 1200 (counting both DVD5 and DVD9 discs) burns I have had a success rate greater then 99%. I am not exaggerating. I have had no more than 2 or 3 unsuccessful burns in more than 2 years of burning.
same here although I've burned a couple of spindles of Yudens and they're excellent the Verbs are easier to find locally
I was concerned about getting TY fakes and that was my main reason for purchasing Verbs but now I'm glad I did. They are much more plentiful, cheaper and I haven't heard about any fake ones. Hopefully the quality of the Verbatim discs will continue.

lol
I'd hurl some abuse at you for being so stupid but you're just not worth it.
How about letting me do it LUK?? :whistling:

Here's hoping your birthday is a great one Bill. And I hope you have many more just as great, if not better.

No you haven't wasted them. They are still good for coasters.
Don't worry you haven't lost anything. Being Sony discs, they were only good for coasters even before you wrote to them.
I must to disagree with esteemed colleague here.
I've been using both Sony DVDRs and CDRs and have had only a few coasters (and those have been CDRs).
In fact, Sony 8x DVD+Rs (with a purple label) are actually Taiyo Yudens--the absolute best on the market (and the inventers of the CDR). Sony's yellow label -R 8x'ers have also proven to be quite good in my experience.
The Sony item number: 25DPR47LS3
These are Yuden000-T02-00s. Muy bitchin'
And, with a 96% success rate after 355,000+ burns, here's the proof of how good they are:

Personally, I think it's a slippery slope. I, for one, can't stand it when anyone smokes. I don't want anyone smoking near me. But, guess what? There's no such thing as a non-smoking area. When someone smokes, everyone is, unless they do it outside. The irony is smokers KNOW it's annoying because they annoy themselves and each other. But, they're hooked and need their fix. So, what they basically say is to Hell with everyone else.
About 2 1/2 years ago I was in a restaurant having dinner. We were in the non-smoking section. A man sitting at the table next to mine decided he was going to smoke and everyone else be damned. He even had the gall to use one of the plates for his ashtray. The smoke was really annoying so I asked him to stop and pointed out to him where he was sitting. He decides to take an attitude and proceeds to yell at me (although everyone in the restaurant could hear) saying things about how he has the right to smoke along with things like we should leave if it bothers us and no one is going to make him stop. The police were called and he decided to take the same route with them. WRONG MOVE IDIOT! They cuffed and arrested him right there. I must say I loved seeing it happen. While they were cuffing him I told him to make sure he didn't forget his cigarettes. One of the police officers who were there looked at me and gave a small laugh.

I'm not that twisted Movie Junkie, i just happened to have a few -R DL left that I wanted to use before investing in +R DL.
That's all
Later,

I have no reason to doubt your sincerity so I stand corrected and I apologize for thinking what I did.

Guys, update.
Before i bought DVD+R DL, i went on the doom9 forum to make sure that was absolutely no way for my current DVD9 project to be burnt on DVD-R DL like you all said.
Well there was a very simple way to do it as described here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=930813#post930813
I didn't reauthor anything, just used VobBlanker and that was it.
Produced DVD-R DL works flawlessly here on standalone Pioneer DV636D
Later,
TSR
I not sure why you did all of that. I get the feeling that you had to try to prove, that the people who tried to help you were wrong. The reason I get that feeling is that even though Verbatim DVD+R DL discs are MUCH, MUCH better than the Verbatim DVD-R DL and they also cost less and you would have done less work to get them to work correctly, you had to search until you found a solution that worked for you. Then when it worked you came back here to tell us we were wrong. It would have been much easier for you just to use the +R DL media.

What you are doing is illegal. No one here is going to help you.
I think you need to know that this board is monitored buy several agencies that are looking for people that admit to illegal downloading. These agencies have way to trace you through your IP Address even if you are going through an annomizer. Don't think I am just trying to give you a hard time. I am trying to give you a heads-up.

Wasn't aimed at you old friend. One of my step-daughters just missed being killed there because she and a girlfriend were late for work and it holds very bad thoughts for me personally.
The change is good
The owner (or co-owner) of one of the companies I've done work for lost her father in that horrendous attack.

All good MJ.
Thanks Ken.

I'll do one better
I applaud you for the change Kirk.

Now MJ, that's not very nice - especially when Bill gave in and send you the picture of himself "out of uniform" only after you promised it was just for yourself. :&

Are you saying that Ken has gone blind MJ ??
Let's just say that I know for a fact that he has two middle names...Ray and Charles.

Don't worry you haven't lost anything. Being Sony discs, they were only good for coasters even before you wrote to them.I so know what you mean ... but at least I didn't pay for them.

(sorry - bit of a noob question I fear ...)
A friend recently gave me two boxes of jewel-cased Sony brand DVD blanks (they'd bought them by mistake, meaning to buy CD-Rs, and only having a CDRW), and I noticed both the box and the disc cases bear the 'RW' logo, like this :
as well as the legend "DVD+R", in somewhat bigger letters.
So I thought "Great ! They're RW discs into the bargain ! I can run tests and experiments with them, and just wipe them again afterwards". But it seems I was wrong - it looks like the 'RW' logo may just refer to the "DVD+RW Alliance" (http://www.dvdrw.com/), and the disks aren't rewritable in any sense, and I've just wasted 4 discs ... haven't I ?
At any rate, ImgBurn now says the discs I've played with (I tried formatting them, and setting the booktype) have "Status: Incomplete", and it refuses to play with them again. ImgBurn has also said "Erasable: No" from the beginning, but I just thought that meant "nothing to erase" (they said "Status: Empty" at first).
Drat ... they're not RW disks, are they ?
No they're not RW discs.
No you haven't wasted them. They are still good for coasters.

I know your balls are old ken but surely you would miss them if you tossed them out ?
Non use (or misuse) has caused them to turn into crystal.

You are all just jealous that you don't look as good as me in uniform!
Careful Bill, or I'll be forced to post the "other" picture.

As kevdriver said, it might be time for a new drive. At least that's the way i would go. Do a search on the forum and I'm sure you will find a number of drives that we have said are good ones. Good luck.
