That's the slowest speed your burner/firmware/media combination allows, besides, burning 8x rated media at 2.4x doesn't usually result in good burn quality.

Both brands should work fine on both burners.

That's open to interpretation and varies wildly depending on your country's laws. Anyway, there are plenty of tools for doing what you want and ImgBurn, nor its author LUK, aren't looking for legal disputes

Also use the latest ImgBurn because the one you have is older than Windows 7 itself.

Try burning at 4x or 6x. Also look for the latest chipset/storage drivers for your system (this website might help). You could also try with high quality media such as Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden blanks (laptop burners are rubbish so good media is a must).

Try the other write speeds and enable Verify or you'll never know if it was a good burn or not.

The log of the burn would be useful.

Depends on what your burner was doing, e.g. if ImgBurn said "Writing Lead-In..." in the status bar then the disc is probably a coaster.

ImgBurn burns stuff as is, i.e. it doesn't change anything, so if you want a slideshow/movie/etc disc then you'll need to use another program to author such disc and then you can use ImgBurn to burn the disc.

Seems like your system is having memory problems, so test it with memtest86+. Also, since it looks like it's a laptop, make sure all ventilation holes aren't blocked.

As it says in the thread I linked above, slim burners are rubbish and the only chance of good burns on them is by using high quality media.
