  1. Do you have any of the other I/O interfaces that ImgBurn supports installed/available on your PC? If so, try one of those. This error could just be a bogus one - what chipset does your motherboard / drive controller use?
  2. If you mean inside of the standard 'select a file' dialog boxes, that's part of Windows. Otherwise just right click the browse button and all will become clear.
  3. Cool. It's annoying but that's just how Mr Gates wanted Vista's security model to work. You cannot drag from an app running under a 'normal' user to one running with elevated privileges.
  4. Can you drag into the 'source' box in the main window? If not, I guess D+D isn't working for you at all. That normally happens when you're running ImgBurn as an administrator (i.e. via the right click menu) rather than at your 'normal' level.
  5. Ah, something still isn't right then.
  6. You have to buy online to be able to see which dye is used on a given spindle of discs. That said, it's safe to assume that branded Taiyo Yuden discs will use their own dye and Verbatim will use either the Taiyo Yuden dye or the MCC one. If you have any burnt discs that your drive *can* read, pop one in and you'll see the Disc ID/Manufacturer ID in the info on the right.
  7. The TOC error in the status bar means the drive cannot initialise the disc AT ALL. Until it does/can, no program can do anything with it - i.e. get info about it, read it or write to it. That's why the disc info area on the right is empty. The 1x and 2x speeds are probably just being reported due to a bug in the drive's firmware. Really it should fail to report anything. You're going to need to keep trying various rewritable dyes (don't go by the brand name!) until you find one that your drive supports properly.
  8. (This is nothing to do with ImgBurn, it is not responsible for this happening in any way, shape or form)
  9. Did it fail with 'No Additional Sense Information' again or something different?
  10. I only ever get the shiny silver ones myself... I have no interest in printing on them either! Over here in the UK we pay about
  11. Thanks, it now reads the LIST/INFO chunks in WAV files.
  12. No but TYG02 have worked with every drive I've ever had... and I've had NEC models both before and after that one.
  13. Go for some Taiyo Yuden TYG02 8x DVD-R then. I use those almost exclusively. You have to buy online if you want to buy going by the disc id. Nobody prints it on the actual spindle... well, almost nobody - real Taiyo Yuden's have it on the top label.
  14. I think it's safe to say it's not going to work then! Before you terminate the process, open the log window up (which shouldn't really be close down in the first place) and press the F8 key. Do you see lots of entries being added to the log window? What do they say? (copy + paste them) Your drive is currently showing us a 'Fibre' which is just plain wrong. Replacing your controller drivers with some better ones might fix that.
  15. Try some of the Verbatim DVD+R discs instead. Personally if I want DVD-R I use Taiyo Yuden. If I want DVD+R then I'll use the Verbs.
  16. Xbox games are protected against casual copying and ImgBurn doesn't (and won't ever) circumvent copy protection.
  17. You're getting issues because the nvidia drivers don't return the correct status codes from the drive if the calling application asks for more than 18 bytes of sense area data. This has been talked about several times recently, do a quick search. Using a different I/O interface should work around the issue because they seem to impose their own 18 byte limit and ImgBurn's request for more is ignored.
  18. ImgBurn cannot make an existing ISO bootable.
  19. That error message is what your drive is reporting to ImgBurn. So basically your drives doesn't like / support those DVD-RW discs.
  20. 2.4.2.0 is the latest Why aren't you downloading from the official website?! In any case, updating the program isn't going to fix your 'hardware' problem. Ditch the discs you're using and buy Verbatims as blutach said. It's all detailed in that post he linked to.
  21. Update your firmware to 1.02. http://support.asus.com/download/download_...SLanguage=en-us If that doesn't work, read the following: 2.4x isn't a valid speed, your drive says it only supports 4x, 6x and 8x. By choosing 2.4x it'll be burning at 4x anyway so now give 6x and 8x a try. If they don't work either, try getting some of the 2.4x Verbatim discs (MKM-001-00 dye) as per this thread: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000
  22. Do you have an NVIDIA chipset on your motherboard? If not, which one do you have? Or at least, which controller is the drive connected to?
  23. You can always run 'regsrv32 /u vp6dec.ax' to unregister it, then it wouldn't be crashing DirectShow.
  24. Have you tried cleaning your drive? Do you have access to any other dvd burners that you could use to get the disc id of the media you have?
