  1. it IS ok to leave IB on MAX write speed

ImgBurn polls the drive to see what the drive thinks about the media , the media replies with its write speeds and the drives firmware decides what speed/strategy it can write to that disc at .

As Ib uses BurnProof , then speed isnt really an issue

although if your unsure how good or bad your PC is at writing , then Martin H's suggestions above are a good guide line

what the logs sayingis that the drive was unable to write to sectors highlighted in red above , either due to the drive, the media or a combo of both . usuall suspect is a bad batch of discs ( even though they are verbatim).

the bits highlighted in blue mean when veryfying, the drive was unabalew to recover the TOC"Table of Contents", which if i remember right is added at the end of the write to disc process .

the TOC tells the player what to expect and where on the disc. im guessing the TOC isnt complete as IB knew the drive failed to write completely to the disc, hence when veryfying the drive cant find the TOC

(maybe Lightning_UK can confirm this last part)

Have you sucsessfully burnt any of these discs previously ? and have you saved any of the logs from previous failed burns, so we can see at what points/sectors the drive failed to write to ?

  3. v2.2.0.0 will be released when v2.1.0.0 has been thoroughly worn out, hammered, thrashed and abused  and not untill ;) ......................unless of coarse the Guv'ner decides to release it before

  4. I 14:06:27 Writing Layer 0... (LBA: 0 - 1993471)

    W 14:27:41 Failed to Write Sectors 1963328 - 1963359 - Write Error

looking at the above, it seems that the drive cant write the end part of the 1st layer , suggesting either faulty/dirty media or drive issues with that media or possibly a faulty drive.

You already have the latest firmware 1.0e , so apart from trying Corns suggestion , your restricted to resolving the problems with the media or the "possible" faulty drive

according to your log, you have 2 burners installed ?

    I 14:02:07 Found 1 DVD?RW and 1 DVD?RW/RAM!

whats the other burner, and how does that perform, (presuming it writes dual layer )?

  5. terwhip

are you saving the file to the desktop the same as Juane6 did ? or into a folder somewhere else within c drive , like My Docs ?

just so you can see its not a general problem, i just downloaded 2.1.0.0 from the ImgBurn link on the web site ( 6th mirror site in the list on download page) and installed it no problem .

  6. each to there own as to what media they prefer, or what price they want to pay , but maybe we are at the point where other manufacturers start making decent DL media and not just Verbatim.

personal opinion is i will stick to verbs for the time being ,not that I'm not prepared to try other stuff, but Verbs have been the only consistent media so far in the DL stakes.

I'm not sure how long any DL disc's will last before they disintegrate, but i feel safer putting my stuff on the verbs for that reason

  7. thanks Shamus, but i already looked into that, and google. With hotmail i will have to pay for the 2nd level from bottom service to use the hotmail pop3 server, and both hotmail and google only let me receive mail and not send from another domain name i have to use ( business)the current domain name i use doesnt do webmail either  .

the main priority is to be able to send emails from a domain name using my IP' pop3 server ( which i can do at the moment).

suggestions welcome  ( unless its Lfc telling me to stick the data card up my arse  )

  8. do the players your trying to play this DL disc on actually support the +R format though ?

without going back thru otehr posts as well, is this the first attempt at burning dual layer or have you been able to play any burned Dual layer discs on you standalone players before ?

theres an updated firmware for that drive available, SB04 . your still on SB02

  9. Has anyone got a 3g Orange data card ?

im finding im away more often these days and could do with net access on the move . Spoken to Orange who , like most other organisations ,never seen to be able to answer the question.

Im trying to find out what you get in the way of an email account when you have one of these cards . I know they do web mail, but id like to be able to use outlook express and forward other emails to the orange email account , does anyone know if this is possible please ? or do they just use web mail

    regards
