LUK have you been to prolific's download section recently for pl 2506 the flash util and firmware seems to have vanished. i have recently bought about 6 caddies from svp and i wanted to update them all, hope i can find what i downloaded last time on one of my computers.. have emailed them to see if they have an ftp site with the files i require, might not need them if they have latest flash on them, but without the util to check ?

From my understanding of it after reading someone Else's views, findings from someone who owns the 2 rival formats, is that hd dvd is the better option, picture quality is better (both capable of same output) , the navigation and added features you can use on hd dvd are better than the equivalent on blu ray which are pretty poor in comparison to being able to sync the special features with main title using hd dvd picture in picture mode (it's not called that but same thing) I would play it safe and get either or both of these. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/01/07/lg...ils_multi-blue/

you could back up firmware with this util from code guys should work on your drive as its for liteon Sony drives. eeprom

from what i can see that drive is a liteon 1653s and can be cross flashed to that. once a liteon you could then find the book type function will work correctly this would be at your own risk though.. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=...ghlight=DW-D23A if you have bundled software look at that post and the link to download the firmware, note also that the link says CSOM but its newer than that CSOT after you download it. about the bundled software bit, i read that as if you change it to a liteon drive the bundled software will not recognise your drive, so if that is the case and you want to use the bundled software still, then look at the bit about applying sonyid.

there appears to be no firmware for that external drive, its pretty new, only update i could find was for the one touch facilty have you got any other discs you could try ?

unbelievable amount of DVDs floating around in my house, there is no real way you can database them either as the time to do it is just immense.

They will be normal for other media types +R is the only one you can book type to dvd-rom...look in imgburn write mode with disc you burnt in drive and look for last recorded see if it says dvd-rom

try liteon tab and choose drive (for DVD+R DL Media) then set to DVD-ROM press ok and wait for success (this would need to be done everytime you restart computer) Or try the drive (for DVD+R DL Media -EEPROM) set to dvd-rom, this will remember the setting everytime you use a dvd+r DL

brand name is not important, the mid, media code (dye type) is the important factor. As in your case you had some Philip's rw that were prodisc. The fuji ones you mention if they say prodisc in imgburn then they may be better than the Philip's ones but will be too close to call. Get some taiyo yuden TYG02/TYGO3/YUDEN000T02 etc the yuden00 etc being +R the ty's are -R. have a quick look here http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

get 8x if you can failing that 16x and just burn at 8, +R -R no quality difference. however +R may require you to have a dvd writer that allows bit setting (book typing to dvd-rom) which would or should increase chances of playback in your home dvd player.
