Okey dokey. This one looks pretty simple. Take any CDs/DVDs out of the drive and shut down any programs that are running like your web broswer, email etc etc.. Extract the contents of the zip file and double-click on the exe file and let it do its job. Don?t play around with the mouse, keyboard or whatever. It should take between 10 and 30 seconds to update and for the best results, reboot your machine once you get the OK that your update has finished. That?s about it. Just be aware that if you shut the computer down, lose power or otherwise interfere with the firmware updating process (called ?flashing?), you can destroy your drive. Good luck.

Downloading a copyrighted mp3 (for example) is different (in my book) to downloading something that has been ?free to air? tv. Even the US Supreme Court recognises that a program screened ?free to air? may be recorded using a mechanical device like a VCR and I?m sure the Australian Supreme Court does also. You can?t blame ISPs nor can you expect them to monitor traffic for every user. For example, let?s say that ISPs decide to cut down on torrent traffic by blocking port 1843 (I *think* this is the default for BitComet but I might be wrong), in an effort to close the torrent flood gates. The user then changes to port 80 or port 21 (default HTTP and FTP ports). What?s the ISP going to do? Of course it will. DRM (one version anyway) was cracked last year. There was a bit of fooking about to get around it but it worked. Media Player 9, I think it was. It already exists. Freenet comes to mind. Just fabulous. However, I can?t see consumers lining up to buy equipment that makes their lives miserable, regardless of how many bells and whistles it has. Stupidity like this will see a revival of the humble VCR or equally non-intelligent products. They might be a bit dated by comparison but these machines do what they?re told.

It?s not a shame or coincidence, it?s indicitive of the so-called ?Information Age? where anyone can buy PCs and hardware and vendors are all too happy to sell the newbies crap. Also, new users are their own worst enemy when it comes to the basics such as media. They won?t buy generic brands of groceries at the supermarket because they think the lower price denotes an inferior quality product. Why then would a person not apply the same logic when buying media? Hmm... will I spend $20 for 20 Taiyo Yuden media or $20 on CMC, Princo, Longten media in a tub of 50? 50!? What a bargain!

Pretty much. Daemon Tools is great for running all kinds of disk images from the HD (and it supports loads of them). Its secondary use is for emulating copy protection on game CDs like SecuROM, allowing the game to be run without having to have a CD in the drive once an image has been created. Personally, I use UltraISO (as L_UK suggested above) for all my ISO creation, editing or whatever. Last year I created a 150gig or so ISO with UltraISO and mounted it into Daemon Tools just for the hell of it and it worked like a charm.

When you think about it...... you?d wonder how they?ve managed to sell these things for so long despite every DVD forum and media review website knowing that they?re shit. If nothing else, consumer watchdogs like the ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) here in Oz should have been all over the importers/distributors for allowing the sale of a product that?s been faulty for years.

I know where to find udftools. What I wanted (hence my asking) was a link to the version you were using for 2 reasons. The problem may have been specific to a particular version of udftools or specific to the Solaris compiler. 99% of the bugs reported for ImgBurn are not bugs but problems associated with or caused by other software. As Lightning_UK has acknowledged that it was a bug, it''s immaterial now.

Please supply a download link for the software version numbers that are apparently being misreported and I?ll have a play with it.
