  1. Have a re-read of what Lightning_UK mentioned above. It might just be a firmware problem with your burner. Afterall, your main buffer is full. Having your burner and HD (source and destination drives) on seperate IDE, SATA or RAID channels (and using 80 wire IDE ribbon cable where possible), gives your PC the best chance of efficiently moving around the huge amount of data transferred when burning a DVD.
  2. Yep. Attenuation is the key factor. It?d be nice if I could pick an exchange and type in my phone number and have the distance given displayed for me. Still, I know there?s 2 exchanges within 2.5km from where I?m sitting. If I can get 12,000mbps out of it I?d be happy. The 512/256kbps connection I have ATM is starting to get frustrating. Thanks for the link.
  3. ImgBurn isn?t a reader. It?s a burning program.
  4. Well, he *is* running Windows so he?s off to a good start.
  5. Yep. Long time ago though. Here?s some a piccies of one. The keyboard thingy on the right in the first image is an Amiga 500. http://www.vintagecomputercafe.com/mycomputers/A570.jpg http://peach.mie.utoronto.ca/people/tsangc/amiga-a570.jpg http://www.osiembitpower.republika.pl/komp...iga500/a570.jpg
  6. Might I ask, Oh, Great Fettler of the Registry Keys, what exactly are you trying to do?
  7. <wistful, good old days mode on> I remember buying the old 5 1/4"floppies for 5 bucks each and my first CD-ROM was a single-speed Amiga A570 (which I still have around here somewhere) that cost me just under a grand. Hardware is ridiculously cheap these days by comparison. <wistful, old fart mode off>
  8. It might be worth checking to see if you have 40 wire or 80 wire IDE cables in your PC. 40 wire will throttle your available bandwidth, particularly if your burner and HD share an IDE channel.
  9. All seems to be well with the drive refreshing then. Some tools (like Tweak and others) can interfere with the drive refresh which is why F5 is a handy shortcut. Anyways, glad you got it sorted.
  10. This isn?t surprising as a normal PC drive can?t read the file format on an XBox disk. (It can burn an image but it can?t read the files on your disk. Same as a PS2 game really.) The best way to see what?s on the disk is to put it into your XBox drive and ftp to it using your PC. I recommend WS_FTP Pro for this type of stuff. Great program. Verbatims?
  11. Try this: C:\PROGRA~1\MOZILL~1\FIREFOX.EXE -url "%1" Funny that it uses the old 8.3 naming thingy but it works.
  12. You?re spot on. CMC disks are terrible. 99% will fail to verify after burning. The other 1% will fail eventually. They are very, very bad.
  13. Sorry, Jill. Here?s something a little more classy. Jills? classy pic
  14. Regardless of what packaging your disks came in, they are still CMC Magnetics (you can see for yourself where it says ?Disc ID? above. They are really, really bad and have been for years and not worth the pain or effort in attempting to get a quality burn.
  15. I wish it was the same here. The problem is my ISP using a really weird protcol. Still, it?d be nice if they finally get their act together. The router my ISP supplied (it was free with the installation and is still around here somewhere) that supported their protocols was crap because it doesn?t stealth the ports. I?m rambling again........... That?s a good point. I hadn?t even thought of that. I?ll have a look when I get home from work tonight. Thanks.
  16. I really hope so. It would be nice just to plug something in and have it work. My local exchange goes online in June this year and I?m really looking forward to the speed (around 50x faster than I have now. 3MB/sec (not 3Mb/sec) for an extra $10 a month. WooHoo!!
  17. Throw your disks out and grab some Taiyo Yuden or Maxell or Verbatims. CMC media is pretty bad. They really are garbage.
  18. I?ve just been checking out my ISPs website and they recommend a Netcomm NB5 for ADSL2/2+. Hmm... there must be a new protocols supported with ADSL 2/2+ (DUH!) Does anyone have one of these things?
  19. LOL!!! I?d forgotten about that. <searches google> Found one! http://www.condomcountry.com.au/item/t-vib-usb-kit-10func
  20. http://videogames1.mtv.com/pages/news/story.php?id=6147858 $20 PS2 GTA: LCS due 6/6/06 Console version of Tony Cipriani's mafia mix-ups heads to North American PlayStation 2s June 6 for $19.99, Europe June 9. The day of release for a new installment of Grand Theft Auto for the PlayStation 2 has become synonymous with "sick" days, $50 out of the wallet, and late October. Taking advantage of its popularity and the holiday season, Rockstar Games has always sent each edition of its flagship franchise to stores just before November and has never found a reason to debut the games for less than half a Benjamin. That's all about to change for the controversial game, as Rockstar today announced that Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories will be available for the PlayStation 2 on June 6 for an MSRP of $19.99. The game will come to Europe on June 9 for 29.99 euros ($37) or 19.99 GBP ($35). Though this isn't the debut of this particular chapter of GTA (it was released late last October on the PSP), it is the debut of the game on a console--a very widespread one, at that. Gamers anxious to return to Liberty City, the setting of Grand Theft Auto III, have long been wondering exactly when the game would come out (it was originally due in April but was then delayed) and how much it would be released for. The PS2 version was revealed in January and originally expected to hit stores in April, and Take-Two Interactive's CEO, Paul Eibeler, announced in March that the game would be cheaper than the $50 PSP version. Though the game was already released for the PSP, it doesn't mean that this latest version doesn't have a chance to follow in its PS2 GTA predecessor's footsteps as a retail success. Though the PSP has shipped nearly 20 million units (as of the end of 2005, just over 15 million units shipped), the PS2 has sold more than 100 million units. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for the PlayStation 2 has not yet been rated, however, it's likely to receive the same M-for-Mature rating that its PSP counterpart had. As of press time, online retailers still listed the game at $29.99. By Tim Surette -- GameSpot 04/18/06 03:04 PM
  21. Knowing what firmware it has would help also. Latest version is v1.0c
  22. Shnookylumps! Long time, no thingy! We?ve often wondered where you got to. I?m happy to see you safe and well. How have you been?
  23. Australia is finally catching up with the rest of the world with the progressive rollout of ADSL2 in selected areas. Is anybody using this? Apart from having to buy yet another modem (to go with the 20 or so of the fcuking things I already have in the shed), can anyone tell me what protocol they use to connect to their ISP? Warning: Headache inducing content follows. For example, my ISP currently forces me to use ?1483 bridged mode? which creates alot of headaches if you (me) has hardware that doesn?t support it, like my SMC router. That means I have to set up my modem/router (Netgear DG834) as just a modem because it supports 1483 bridged mode which means it can connect and my router (SMC 2804WBR) then sends my login details via PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) through the modem to my ISP. There?s a reason I kept the SMC on my network but I can?t remember why. It?s a complete clusterfuck. So.... can anyone tell me what protocol they use to connect to their ISP on ADSL2/2+ ?? EDIT: I just remembered why I kept the SMC router on my network. It was because the Netgear modem/router doesn?t support 1483 bridged mode when it?s set up as a modem/router. It DOES support it if it?s just used as a modem. Go figure.
