  1. Just close all programs (including those in the taskbar), run the update and reboot the computer after it has finished updating. If you've set your controller to PIO mode in Device Manager then put it back on DMA if available. If you tell us which motherboard/chipset you have (as Cynthia said above ) we could try finding out why it's in RAID mode and how to switch it back to normal IDE mode.
  2. If the sector is bad then the burner simply refuses burning it and returns a "write error"/similar error code.
  3. Rewritables aren't as good as write-once media, so try with a DVD+R disc if you can. If you really want to use rewritable media then Verbatim DVD+RW as it's much better than the others
  4. It was a good burn, so either the problem is in the source files or your DVD players don't like burned media How many players do you have? All of them can't read the disc? Have you tried a lens cleaning disc on them?
  5. There's newer firmware available for your burner (remove any disc and close the tray before updating then reboot after it's finished), but if you're going to update use your wife's computer
  6. Also post your Filter Driver Load Order (look in ImgBurn's Tools menu).
  7. Do you have the log from when you burned that disc?
  8. Update ImgBurn. You do know that you can burn directly to disc (i.e. no need to create an image first), right?
  9. http://www.firmwarehq.com/Optiarc/AD-5170A/files.html
  10. Alternatively you could buy a DivX-capable DVD player, they're very cheap.
  11. Try reading that disc with other drives and it might work.
  12. It could be just a bad disc. Have you tried with another blank disc? What's the brand you're using?
  13. Have you tried installing the chipset/storage drivers from AMD's website? Maybe they have a newer version than the one on Gigabyte's website. You may also want to try uninstalling AMD's storage driver and using the standard Microsoft driver. From what you've described the drive isn't responding to ImgBurn's command, and in these cases the storage driver is most likely the one causing the problem. By the way, your "Gigabyte SATA2 controller" (the GSATA2_x ports) is in fact a JMicron controller, and you can get the latest drivers for it here: ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/XP_Vista_Win7/ You could also try using your burner connected to this controller.
  14. It means your drive couldn't read the disc. Of course we could know why this happens if you've posted in the right section and read the pink banner at the top of the forum
  15. Try a lens cleaning disc on that drive. Also you may get a better burn if you burn at 6x or 8x on those 8x rated Verbatim blanks. If it still doesn't work then you could either try and get the 2.4x Verbatim blanks or a new burner
  16. Which port is the burner connected to?
  17. Please post the log from the burn+verify with Verbatim media that freezes on your player (look in ImgBurn's Help menu).
  18. If ImgBurn uses BIN/IMG extension then the disc's content can't be stored in ISO format due to some limitation of such standard. Roxio and Toast are probably converting the disc's data or they're creating a non-standard ISO image. That's not what I would call a true copy of a disc.
  19. With ImgBurn in Write mode, insert a DVD+R DL disc burned with the new burner and look at the Book Type under Physical Information (Last Recorded):
  20. Oh really? And what's that log you've posted above, a good burn?
  21. Have you tried the Drive (For DVD+R DL Media) option of the Lite-On tab? Anyway, I think that drive booktypes +R DL media to DVD-ROM automatically (at least it should ).
  22. And what would be the purpose of doing that if I may ask?
  23. ImgBurn only shows the affected filename for your reference: when it reads a disc it reads all the available sectors as reported by the drive. If you want to skip files then you might as well use Windows Explorer/etc to copy your files because, in the end, it won't be a true copy of your source disc anyway. And if it's indeed some kind of copy protection then I'm afraid you're out of luck: ImgBurn can't copy protected discs and won't ever bypass/remove any kind of copy protection
