  1. Linux dd is probably converting the image contents in order to create an ISO image and ImgBurn doesn't do that. ImgBurn uses the correct image format to store the disc's data and if that's not good enough for you then you should keep using dd and its conversion
  2. Yup, if the BIOS supports booting from USB devices it should work like a normal floppy drive. If you don't need the bootable floppy to be writeable you can burn a bootable CD/DVD using the floppy's disk image. Depending on your motherboard it can emulate a floppy from any USB storage device. Just the other day I found out that my motherboard's BIOS does that automatically for any USB storage device smaller than 512MB, but you can also force it to emulate a floppy from any size of USB storage device.
  3. What does it say in the Log window? If it's something about "maximum number of secrets" then read this.
  4. Try a lens cleaning disc on that drive and if that doesn't solve the problem then trash it and get a new burner
  5. There's even a guide for that
  6. Please describe how both burners are connected (external/internal/IDE/USB/etc). Their brand and model is also useful information.
  7. Update ImgBurn. And please post your Filter Driver Load Order (look in ImgBurn's Tools menu). Do the burners appear in Device Manager?
  8. It's better if this option was left at its default value of Yes.
  9. You could try other brands that use different dyes than the one above, but unfortunately there's no miracle to make it work. Can't you get even the 8x Verbatim blanks? Alternatively you could get a new burner... //edit too slow again!

  11. On Windows 7 try installing this driver to see if it detects your IDE controller. You might also want to check if you're using the latest BIOS version for your motherboard.
  12. By the way... If that burner is on a Dell computer you might want to apply this firmware update (remove any disc and close the tray before updating then reboot after it's finished).
  13. Right-click on the drive's name -> Change Book Type, but, as LUK said, ImgBurn automatically does this on drives that support it
  14. Slower doesn't necessarily mean a better burn, but you really should try a lens cleaning disc first
  15. Have you used a lens cleaning disc on that drive? Have you tried burning at 4x?
  16. What's the brand and model of your motherboard? Is the drive connected to the onboard controller or an add-on card? Have you looked for updated drivers for them?

  18. Do you have a DVD-R/DVD-RW disc that you could use with Test Mode enabled to see if you can burn while in Safe Mode? Oh, and just to be sure, when you're going to open ImgBurn right-click on the shortcut and choose Run as administrator
  19. If you close the Sidebar, does it work? //edit oops too slow again
  20. If you go to File -> Save BurnPlot Screen Capture it saves the screenshot even if you click Cancel/the X button/hit ESC on keyboard. This happens on Windows 7 x86 RC1 build 7100 (can't test other OSs right now ).
  21. Did you reboot since the last time you've tried the original flasher? From my testing it gets stuck in memory and you have to kill it/reboot the computer.
  22. Do update the firmware if you can as that ensures you're getting best quality burns on any media.
  23. Do what this post says (removing controllers/etc) just to be sure your burner is using DMA mode. Also use the Disk Defragment tool to check on your HDD fragmentation and defrag it if it's too high.
  24. Remove any disc from the drive and close the tray. Then download and run the attached file: I've replaced the flasher program so that it shows the error, if there's any. [attachment removed as it's potentially dangerous to any Samsung DVD burner]
  25. It's OK to install over. Your settings will be preserved.
