ImgBurn relies on what your drive tells it, and in that case it seems your drive stopped reading the disc (or is having problems reading that disc) but it didn't tell that to ImgBurn, so ImgBurn keeps waiting for the data. This situation can be caused by several factors: copy protection on the disc (most commercial discs are protected against copying); dirty/scratched disc; communication error between the drive and the motherboard controller, or some software working inbetween these two Make sure you're using the latest storage/chipset drivers available for your motherboard. Also please post your Filter Driver Load Order (it's in the Tools menu).

You should get Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x MKM-001-00 Made in Singapore blanks, as these are the most compatible, especially on laptop burners. If you burn a lot of stuff, especially dual-layer discs, you might want to get a normal burner in an external enclosure, as those are more suited for burning on all sorts of media and also give you better quality burns

If you play the source files through Windows Media Player that noise isn't there? Where are you listening the burned CDs (computer/standalone DVD player/car player/etc)?

In ImgBurn, go to Tools -> Settings -> Write tab, click the Restore Defaults button, answer No and then click OK. Try burning again and see if it works

The boxes for DVD-ROM, HD DVD-ROM and BD-ROM formats under Write Capabilities are always grayed out because those formats can only be made by pressing the discs at a special facility (i.e. you can't "burn" them) As for booktyping with your burner, have you tried the options under the BenQ and Lite-On tabs of ImgBurn's Book Type dialog? If you did and none worked then your drive doesn't support booktyping.

In order to set the layer break you need to use DVD+R DL media (notice it's "DVD plus R dual-layer media"), and the only ones we recommend are Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x MKM-001-00 Made in Singapore, since they work best on most burners

Most likely you're trying to burn more data than the disc supports, but we can only know for sure if you post a log (you can find it at Help/ImgBurn Logs)

Look in this list for the model of your Pioneer burner and download the latest firmware available for it. Remove any disc from the drive, close the tray and run the firmware updater. Reboot when it's finished. Then try ImgBurn again

You probably need to convert your AVI with DVD Flick (or similar program) before burning

Test mode, as the name suggests, only tests the burn process, but doesn't actually write to the disc

If ImgBurn said the verify stage was successfull then you can be sure the disc was correctly burnt The buffer getting empty is just a sign that the source image couldn't be read as fast as the disc, and this is nothing to worry about.

Also please update to the latest ImgBurn v2.4.2.0

That burner doesn't support burning dual-layer media

Please post a log from one of the failed attempts (you can find the logs at Help/ImgBurn Logs)

You only need to choose a layer break when burning DVD-Video content

You have one CD burner and one DVD reader. You need a DVD burner to burn DVDs

That's because they're protected against copying

A new burner will also give you better quality burns
