  1. Okay, I know you can at least Start and Stop a Service with a command line. Maybe even Restart it. But, is there a way to change the StartUp Type of a Service with a command line? i.e. to change it from Automatic to Manual or Disabled? That way, just put it in the StartUp folder and not have to worry about manually changing the StartUp Type, since even when a service is stopped, it MAY STILL DAMN WELL BE in memory UNLESS it's Disabled so that it never runs. Fuckers! Thanks!
  2. This is the 2nd time I've encountered it now, so, it appears to be a problem in the forum software. Has anyone else noticed it? When I highlight something and want to give the text two attributes, say, Bold and Italics, when I select first Bold and then Italics, what it does is surround the text with but Italics only puts [/i] after [/ b]. I have to go in and manually type in the at the other end. Now, it may just be the way the forum software is written, because, if you manually highlight the text again and repeat each text change one at a time, it works properly. And, I didn't know where else to post something like this. Especially since it's such a small error. If it could even be considered an error since it just appears to be a shortcoming in thinking of how the user might work with the software.
  3. Is there a way to use .REG keys to uncheck/remove StartUp entries in Microsoft Configuration Utility? i.e. is there a common Registry key/branch that contains this information? Or, is it impossible except on an individual basis, depending on where the software installs a key? What I want to do is, if possible, have a .REG key that unchecks/disables/removes a given checked "thing" that starts on StartUp, controlled by MCU. Such as zlclient, a common one added by ZoneAlarm. [ No, I don't want to disable that, and, neither do you! ] Then, I can just create a shortcut to silently import the key and put that shortcut in the StartUp folder of the Start Menu. That way, any updates, new versions, etc. that re-add them will be taken care of on each start of Windows. Thus, I won't have to worry about them. Similar to keys I've already developed to keep MY settings, such as my default CD/DVD players, etc. Thanks!
  4. I never saw it until the Playhouse videos came out around 1986, 1987? Funny story, I had seen one, but, never even knew it until years later. There was a local PBS station that when it went off the air, another station would come in scrambled on it. I was watching it one time and, years later, I realized it was an episode of... THE DALEK INVASION OF EARTH! It would just HAPPEN to get static, etc. at any point with Daleks which would have been a clear giveaway. :wink2: Oh, and, I had seen the Doctor Who And The Daleks movie before that, around 1983. I was a fan of Doctor Who for years before I ever saw an episode. I was such a fan of the Daleks merely on sight, after seeing them in a Starlog magazine and then my Spencer's Gifts miraculously having a copy of the 20th anniversary special magazine for Doctor Who, and at half price! Doctor Who finally aired locally on PBS in 1988. It ran until about 1991, enough to show the entire Tom Baker era twice. Except for Genesis Of The Daleks. They saved that one for a third extra repeat for a pledge week.
  5. Wow, original Who got a mention on VH-1's I Love The 70's: Volume II for 1978! Probably because it was around that time it started making the PBS rounds in the US?

  7. Would anyone willing to do me a favor do me a favor? I need to get some corroborating information one way or another. If you have Windows set up to open your previously opened folders when Windows shuts down, please open My Computer (just open it and leave it at the default view) and then restart the computer. When Windows restarts afterwards, check My Computer to see if any of your CD/DVD drives appear as the last entry in My Computer. (This infers, of course, the drive in question that appears is not already the last one in your list of drive letters.) I know on Windows start that Windows basically polls and assigns all drive and letters even when, basically, there's no need to even think a new drive is attached. But, something odd came up when fixing another problem. After testing various backups going back to a basic XP SP 2 install and my backups from January 1st, I've noticed conflicting behavior. That starting with February, when I start Windows with My Computer open, my 2nd and last CD/DVD drive, appears at the end of the list until I Refresh and the drives get sorted by letter. On the January and XP SP 2 backups, this behavior does not occur. So, I'm trying to see if this is something I should be concerned about. Because, if not, I'd REALLY rather avoid going ALL the way to January and trying to synch installed program versions, data files, program options, etc. Thanks!

When I first read the subject, I thought this may be about that weirdo down in Texas or wherever, Pinky something, who was running for governor or whatever. Yeah, I'm always on the ball with my facts.
  11. Some of it I know. Some I don't. So, unless it's been like 18 weeks I can wait.
  12. Looks more like the Hand Of Omega. Well, with a name like Genesis, they want you to expect a certain crippled scientist inside... so, it's probably... the script that was originally supposed to follow Revelation Of The Daleks before the old series got cancelled!
  13. What the HELL is this?! http://images.comicbookresources.com/litg/...teweeweeetc.jpg
  14. Batteries have nothing to do with it. Why is it there if the Dalek can already do it? Looks cool, but, serves only a redundant function. From what I've read of the finale... I'm not entirely sure I can buy a lot of where Davies is taking the ideas. I admit, I've warmed up more to the concept of the Dalek Emperor as a god unto itself than when I first saw The Parting Of The Ways. I didn't like it at first, I freely admit. But, subsequent viewings have changed that initial opinion. But, this Cult Of Skaro thing... granted, I've not seen the story yet, so, I have to reserve judgment. Didn't we already see Daleks with names in Evil Of The Daleks, though? And, seems to me Davies using the name Genesis Ark is another red herring like the rumors of Davros appearing as either the Emperor or Bad Wolf last year. Oh, and, if Rose absorbed the heart of the TARDIS at one point as she did, surely, she would have seen her own future , right, and try to prevent it?
  15. I was just now thinking of the new Dalek ability to rotate the center section independently of the head and the base, as seen in the episode Dalek. Why? It seems to me something that looks cool, but, has no useful function BECAUSE a Dalek could do this already. Its head could look in one direction while its base was facing the other. Also, ever wonder what those globes are for? According to the Doctor Who Technical Manual, they detect things like temperature, infrared heat signatures, and MOVEMENT. If all of that is so... how come nearly all Dalek stories feature someone simply hiding from a Dalek gliding by by merely hiding in a corner?
  16. Actually, I have to give some credit to Disney's adaptation of that film from about 10 years ago. I can't really say it's a great movie, but, damn, credit where it's due for trying something different with a standard, sacchrine Disney movie. The idea of casting the Catholic church, through Frolo, as the villain, and the fact that the hero doesn't get the girl at the end was a refreshing change of pace. And, yes, while they did throw out the original themes almost entirely because you can't go teaching the kiddies that if you're ugly, you won't get anywhere in life at least, they did tackle the themes of isolation and xenophobia.
  17. Frank Miller wrote Robocop 2 and 3 and Sin City. Now, in his defense, R2 and 3 were hacked to bits (In fact, they both came from the same script.) BUT I've read his original and, R2 is actually BETTER! Simon Furman wrote the Transformers comics for the UK and wrote the better stories towards the end of its US run. And, what I want from a movie? I'll start off with some simple thing like characters with believable motivations, not just stirred on by a plot or character trait. Actions that matter, i.e. that have SOME kind of consequence and don't just roll along to lead into the next explosion, etc. Maybe, just once, a BELIEVABLE romance! I get tired of the same dreck where the guy gets the girl at the end just because he's the handsome lead. THE END.
  18. Oh, I WISH more comics writers wrote movies. But, the only ones who really do are overrated like Frank Miller. Like Simon Furman would ever be allowed to write the Transformers movie coming out next year.
  19. Wow... who would have thought such a dumb movie like Dead Man's Chest would blow away so many box office records? But, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest did the following over the weekend: 1.) made $132 million 2.) broke the record for a three-day weekend set in 2002 3.) broke the record for a four-day weekend set just recently by X-Men: The Last Stand 4.) broke the record for the biggest single day gross in box-office history 5.) broke the record for the biggest two day gross 6.) became the fastest film ever to cross $100 million gross 7.) broke the record for per theater average (factoring in gross per theater versus the number it played in and the number of screens per theater, which greatly helped it, since it was the fourth widest release, per theater, in history.) Because of this, the US box office itself a new record: $217 million, beating 2004's with a Harry Potter film. Online ticket sellers also set records because people wanted to avoid sold out theaters. And, with Cars passing the $200 million mark without anyone hardly noticing... why is it that dumb films always set the records? Now, I am lumping some films I saw and liked under the "dumb" banner, so, by "dumb" I mean, basically, films that don't really deserve the accolades they get. For instance, Spider-Man held the previous 3 day weekend record that was broken. Yet, Spider-Man 2 was the FAR better picture but didn't set any records. As for Pirates, I've not seen either of them, and, don't want to. But a former friend now a blithering idiot thinks these are the best movies ever made. So, they must be crap, simply because I say so. QED.
  20. No, it was even worse. eBay actually has some kind of chain of command. This was through Diamond Distribution, where they don't give a damn once they've got the money in their hand.
  21. Ah, turns out to be an error at the pressing plant. They added some last minute surprise content, but, the pressing company's software apparently defaults to Mac only format for the discs.
  22. Yeah, this situation was kind of odd. DVDInfo returned a disc size on the DVD, so, I figured there was data on it and used DVDI's ISO creation function to dump the disc to an ISO. Because it did read it, that made me think there may be actual data on it.
  23. UltraISO shows there are folders and files there. And, the test files extracted and viewed okay. So, I'll just extract and burn a new disc. Thanks!
  24. Didn't think about that. Will UltraISO do? To load the image and see if there are files or folders? Or something particularly in ISO Buster to view something in the image?
