  1. I remember having high hopes for DVD-R DL. THEN they started releasing the specs and the fixes layer break position and I knew things were starting to look bad. As for one unanswered question CDB is CaliBration Database, isn't it? Mostly, it's a bullshit error. The kind where the "cause" is that they are errors difficult to specify a cause for. Most of the times the problem is in the System type of technical support database replies. It's a Power Calibration error, isn't it? That, basically, at some point, somewhere, the PC and the drive could not keep up with the data. One got behind or ahead of the other. Thus, when a field was gone to be read, there was nothing there, and, expecting something to be there, the system didn't know what to do because it had never been told what to do in that case.

Well, over in the UK, everyone lives in police boxes. So, they're bigger on the inside than outside, so, these kinds of questions might be moot.
  3. I was a tad bit worried that Davies brought back Cassandra. It seems he's too keen to return to characters of his too soon. The Slitheen first and now the Lady Cassandra. I am not entirely sure I buy how she came back. The cat people as common, everyday hospital workers was a nice touch. I remember when seeing them in previews before I saw Tooth And Claw, I thought they were a part of it. Technically, they weren't really zombies. "A planet ruled by zombies?" They weren't dead, after all. Merely, they had every infection known to man... which begs the question. How, exactly, if they had every known disease... WHY are they only INFECTIOUS by touching? Surely, breathing the same air they're breating into would mean they're also passing air born diseases, IF they have every sickness known to man. A bit fluff, I will grant you that, but, it wasn't that bad. For once, it takes the overused running down corridors idea and makes it more "believable." Even adding in running down stairs, jumping onto elevator cables, etc.
  4. Thanks for the reg key. I've got a feeling I'll need to actually edit the registry on this one, but, I'll try MSCONFIG and TWEAKUI, since I've got those on hand ALL the time.
  5. Actually, there's very little I'VE broken. It's always something else breaking it BEFORE I could get to it. Seriously, I rarely break this shit. It's always some other fucker who's done it, and I have to clean up their goddamn mess.
  6. Well, I must have some brains... I don't use MSN! Anyway, I'd probably just use PM to ask you and then maybe get an e-mail address from there if I did ask. And then from there, Spam you claiming that I met you on adultfriendfinder and wanted to chat with you some more, but, you needed to first check out my fake blog. Which is locked down with age verification because I am so naughty, which requires a credit card number, just to check your age and are thus over 18, of course...

He hasn't made things any easier for himself or his party. He thought he was doing damage control when he came out and said he was molested by a clergyman and that he was gay on top of that! Supposedly, the guy was also exchanging these e-mails/engaging in cybersex with the page DURING a session of Congress!
  8. It also seems to depend on the player. On some, I've seen no indication of the layer break. But, the Playstation 2, proving yet again, as if it needed any, that it's a pretty shitty player all but stops the DVD to play a little tune: "HERE'S THE BREAK!"
  9. I've got some weird error text, etc. in the Registry for the options under Autoplay for one of my optical drives. And only one. The others don't have it. There are two entries with strange, random text, like black rectangles, etc. Even a strange option with no icon to play the disc inserted into the DVD drive with "Google." So, where are the list of these autoplay programs stored so I can go in there and edit them? Thanks!
  10. I'm glad you know what you're doing, anyway. I don't think I'll ever be able to straighten out this mess of a standard. I've been hacking away at it, bits and pieces for 4 years now. And, I'm only just like within the last year creating my own from scratch and trying to best control how the DVD behaves. i.e. I want it to do it "my" way. Maybe, at least, I can pick your... brain... yeah, brain... on down the line.
  11. Eventually, they'll just cut out the middle man and make the implants forced. By law, you have to have your eyes replaced with transmitter/receivers. And, you'd need to get them anyway because they'd make sure that the only way you can view movies is by having them beamed directly into your cerebellum. Yes, one day, the implants will be manditory. Just like the injections.

    That's what he said!
  13. Uh... I kind of gathered that. What is GoUp, though? From what I read, it acts as a Resume. Which is one of the reasons why I don't use diable PUO's globally if a program offers them. I've discovered some nasty things tend to happen regarding menu streams if their VOB's follow, say, the VOB's of a main feature. WB's episodic DVD's are like that. The WB logo that plays at the start of a disc is often times shoved between the main feature VOB's and the menu VOB's. So, if the PUO's are removed, pressing Next in the last chapter of the last episode will load the WB logo. And, because it wasn't expected to be called at that point, all kinds of registers, etc. aren't properly set, and the menus go berserk. I tend to leave the PUO's alone and selectively remove the ones I need.
  14. Well, the easiest way to do that is just replace them with a 1 second blank VOB. It accomplishes the same thing but doesn't force too many messy changes. Just change it to call 1 second blank VOB.
  15. Need someone with some experience in editing IFO's, etc. or PUO's in general. I'd like to know what some of these strange acronyms mean. In particular, what buttons on the DVD remotes they equate to. Thanks! TopPG or PrevPG Search - I've seen a couple of different versions of this in Google, depending on the editing software the hit found. So, sometimes, it's been called Top or Prev program search. Would this be Title/DVD Menu/Top Menu button? NextPG Search - Next program search. I am guessing this disables the Next button? GoUp - This SEEMS to be the Resume? Is it?

Oh, this is low, but, it's funny. It's pretty goddamn funny. Here goes... Quote, Mark Foley from his next news conference about his Congressional resignation: "I did NOT have sexual relations with that page!"
  17. Funny story, actually. I once did return a tape to a video store with something extra recorded on it. I must have been drunk on cold medicine or something. I had rented this really cheap B movie, just an excuse for chopping people to pieces and filming naked women running about as a result of it. You know the kind. Anyway, I just decided out of the clear blue to tape something over that bit of unrecorded tape that almost always appears at the end of all commercial tapes. I covered the protect hole with some non-sticky type tape and discovered that the space left in the remainder at SLP was about 45 minutes. So, I forwarded well enough past the end of the movie itself, where nothing was recorded on, and then started recording. Thus, ONLY if someone was LOOKING for something hidden after the movie, like I did all the time. would find it. You can put two and two together of what appeared there. The store is no longer in business, so, I wonder if they ever sold that movie and if anyone ever found that bonus material.

"You may now eat the bride's brain." I actually paused a moment when I got to "You may now eat the bride-" and thought better NOT to put THAT!

Yeah, along with the life sized Bub zombie.
  20. Blockbuster always give me the stinky eye because I return their DVD's with porn recorded over them.
  21. I order from meritline a lot. Supermediastore is also recommended by many. I didn't have that good an experience, a few cracked cases, etc. But, nothing as bad as shop4tech, which I swore off of. I've only ordered media from them once, while getting an NEC drive, but, I've had nice experience with newegg. (Yes, it's called newegg.com. )
  22. I can remember when Panasonic was charging $11 a pop for their DVD-R's with their brand name of them. Let's see if I still have any of the one of two left over from those days. Indeed, I do! The MID is MEI 00V001 which DVD Identifier says is Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. Had to Google this as there wasn't anything in any newer lists I could find... and still didn't find anything on if this was a good quality brand or not.
  23. Ahem, I would also like to remind those in America to completely disregard the latest Guiness book of world records. Stargate SG-1 is NOT the longest running continuous science fiction series in television history. SG-1 began in July of 1997 and is still on today, with a total of 203 episodes. Doctor Who, however, ran from 1963 until 1984 without a break in production, tallying up... well, let's make it easy. Doctor Who reached its 300th episode in 1971. Even if we're kind and not count The Five Doctors as an episode, but, as a movie special, that's still 607 unique episodes running from 1963 to 1983.
  24. Which brings around to my basic idea: what good is a standard if no one adheres to it?
  25. Yeah, the last we on Earth checked, the 9th month was not November.
