  1. Most people probably realise that if they enable the option to make the program look for updates each time it starts, it'll obviously need internet access. (Oh and I also mention that in the message box). Therefore, if they are prompted by their firewall, they'll be expecting it and just click 'Ok' / 'Yes' etc. I bet 0.01% of people look at WHERE it's actually connecting to. As for not being mentioned anywhere... it is, and you're reading it! Maybe like you, they all ask the same question you did (to themselves), search this forum and find their answer. That's why it not in a FAQ or anything.... it's not a question that's frequently asked!
  2. Basic readability check has been implemented via a new checkbox ('Verify Against Image File') to enable / disable comparing the disc to an image file. The 'Compare' groupbox has been relabeled as 'Image File'.
  3. lol good try guys but you're way off with the actual cause of this error! It writes the current date/time into the IBG file at the end of the burn - as can be seen by the 'Exporting Graph Data' log entry. For some reason, Borlands Date/Time function is failing to convert that string you see in the error box into a valid internal representation of some date/time value. ... some minutes pass.... I've looked at the code for Borlands conversion routine and it doesn't like the way your regional settings are configured to use 3 letter month instead of a number. I will force the value in the IBG file to use all numbers so the conversion bit won't fall over during the actual export.

    Birthday

    Happy Birthday Cynthia.
  5. I normally butt in on this sort of stuff and correct things that have been misunderstood or missed out on purpose. If you look at Digital Digest's forum, you'll see Cynthia has done some nice guides showing the options. I'm happy to explain things in that way, if I'm just given a paragraph to fill out or whatever. Oh and yes I did notice we're shit at penalties! Our keeper's not too good at saving them either!
  6. I think it's more a case of you not understanding the GUI. The option you set in Nero only works within Nero. From what I've seen, it sends the booktype changing command to the drive each time it burns something and then sets it back afterwards. The booktype settings in ImgBurn are the ones active on the drive at that point in time. It's not something ImgBurn changes in the same way Nero does. It's quite possible for another program to change them and them to be different the next time you look at them in ImgBurn. The 'Current Media (For DVD+RW)' meeans exactly what it says! It'll change the Booktype there and then, for the current media in the drive, but it only applies to DVD+RW. The 'GUI Glitches' as you call them, are in fact options your drive does not support. Newer models work fine with them.
  7. Yes, setting to 0 would basically disable it, but there is an overriding enable/disable option.
  8. Yeah. It's something like: 0 No error detected 1 if the burn couldn't start - drive not ready etc. 2 if burn (or now 'build') failed. 3 if verify failed
  9. Oooh we're both jumping to conclusions now I saw the word 'DVD' in the first post and just assumed they wanted to build a DVD Video disc. You're assuming they want it on DVD - full stop. i.e. in the 'backup' sense. Being a lossless codec, would Huffyuv really achieve 4:1 compression on this AVI file... who knows!
  10. All DL have a layerbreak... it's a physical thing you cannot get away from - unless of course you only fill the first layer, but then that would be very silly / pointless. The 'Calculate Optimal' option is a burning setting - i.e. it only comes into play during the burning phase. Unless you're burning in a given app, it wouldn't do anything.
  11. lol all they did was comment out some code!
  12. Back to the DVDInfoPro thing, I just looked at my copy - version 4.61.4 - and it's making the key as it should do. So perhaps you're not on the latest one? Previously I only had 4.61.0 and that didn't create the key. I think the .4 revision was snuck out there when nobody was looking.
  13. Guess I'd better put another beta out then so you can all get started
  14. Chuck it into a program called CCE (Google it) and it'll give you an m2v + audio stream. Convert the audio into ac3 using anything you can find and then put the whole lot into an authoring program. Failing that, use something like ConvertXtoDVD which is an 'all in 1' avi -> dvd tool.
  15. When you click the browse button, take a look in the 'Files of type:' drop down box. It lists everything it looks for, and they're all covered by the 'All Supported Files' option. If you have another sort of file, chances are it's not an image and ImgBurn isn't going to help you burn it.
  16. Nothing... please nothing!!!!
  17. I've been looking at this and God knows how you even get your buffer to empty out to test this! I have to set ImgBurn to low priority, run defrag on the drive I'm burning from and use 'Search' to find files containing some random word. Only then will the buffer start to fluctuate enough to cause a problem! People doing that whilst burning deserve to be shot Anyway, it's done now, so let's talk about limits/thresholds... Currently set to main buffer being It has to stay at these levels (it works on a counter, where count must be over 10 for it to do anything) for a short period and then the write thread is told to pause, fill up the buffer and wait for the avg queue length to go below a certain value - 1.0 by default. The user can configure these settings should they be geeky enough to want to do so. In your expert opinion, is that going to be ok?
  18. You can't yet, the current version only burns image files. When v2 is out, it'll be able to burn files too, but it won't make an audio cd - it WILL however be able to put mp3 files on a disc whereby they're still in mp3 format. That disc would then work in any mp3 player (that accepts cd's of course!)
  19. The DVDInfoPro stuff is actually a fault on their part. Nic and I agreed on a reg key that I'd check for, and he'd update. I did my part (which IS done each time it's needed), he somehow did his part and then deleted it again. Doh! Shame on you for not running regmon and finding that out for yourself. Anyway, he assures me it's fixed in the next version and he WILL actually write/update the key we decided on. As for the buffer stuff, that's borderline on being very anal! Waiting for it to reach 100% again is one thing (and something I've thought about doing on several occassions), but checking disk queue lengths is something you do to pass your MCP/MSCE exams - and for a little tool like ImgBurn, taking things a tad too far! All the drives have zeroloss linking now so I very much doubt you'd see any difference at all in burn quality. In any case, with people out there still buying Princo and CMC discs, a couple of links are the least of their problems.
  20. You have to extract the contents of both images and merge them somehow. If they're plain old files, that's simple enough. If they're DVD Video discs, now might be a good time to search Google!
  21. Flashed to JJ11 and it's burning at 6x. Will post logs + graph when it's done. EDIT: Done now! I 22:41:55 ImgBurn Version 1.3.0.14 Beta started! 22. Soon, honest! Still adding new little bits and squashing bugs though I'm afraid.
  23. I believe it's normally peak values of things - most of which are about the same in your scans. Flash can tell you the real algorithm as I believe he made it up
  24. Ok, just so you lot can quit your bitching, I've changed the basic 'wait for background format' option on the 'Write' tab in the settings into a 'Prefer Properly Formatted +RW' option. When ticked, it'll wait for background formatting and it'll also prompt to format the disc when it's either in the 'Formatted: No' state or the 'Formatted: No (Started)' state. When it's not ticked, it won't wait for the background format and it will only prompt to format when it really has to - i.e. when it's in the 'Formatted: No' state. Happy Now?!
  25. Geez, I really don't get the issue here! It's not like you have to format EVERY time, you just do it once and then the media will be in the proper formatted state. I use DVD+RW all the time for my testing and I can't remember the last time I had to format the disc. Like I said, once it's done, it's done. The 'Wait for background format' is already optional and you'll find it on the 'Write' tab in the settings. It's still going to want to format each time, but at least you won't have to wait until it's fully done.
